I have been having eye issues and I can't thank the Johnson Eye Care team for being so patient and focused on helping me. I have been wearing glasses since I have been a kid and was extremely impressed with how sophisticated all of the equipment their equipment was. It's extremely professional and was able to get to the root of the issues with my issue while Dr Schoepke did a deep look into what I have going on. Being that I am a very technical person ... I was geeking out with all the gear the have ( can you tell ). Oh btw no Air blowing in your eyes here to check your pressure... on top of it Dr Schoepke said those tests are no very reliable. Here's the deal... a year ago I was told from sketchy Dr in the western suburbs that I have a rare eye issue and I would have to go to Canada to stop for going blind in the future. I was relieved that this is not true and the issue I have just needs to be monitored. I have had a weight on my shoulders since that last visit.... I can believe I waited this long. To top it off the they have a great selection of glasses and Mary was extremely helpful picking out the right frames for me. Big thank you to the Johnson Eye care Team. If you follow me you probably know I am very picky and I can tell you I would HIGHLY recommend coming here to get the best care. Wow!

She did a very thorough exam, discussed everything in detail and answered every question I had. She is a wonderful Dr who cares about her patients. The experience was positive, from making the appointment on the phone to getting help picking out frames for glasses, and placing the order. Kudos to all the staff at Johnson Eye Care! Before you think about driving to the emergency room give them a call for minor and moderate eye issues. They might be able to see you quickly. I was a next morning after reporting anomaly in the afternoon day before. The office is clean well kept and equipment is of current generation. Phoropters and slit lamps are original early 2000s installs very well maintained and kept with pristine lenses. Staff are caring and nice and handle exams quickly. Dilation waiting area was in the center but was told to go to main waiting which was a slight workflow deficiency, I will not deduct stars for workflow deficiency. Points will be deducted Appearance 90 (some corners of exam chairs have peeled paint and could use a repaint and refresh. The leather as well has cracked on some seats making a reupholstery job a favorable management decision in addition to light repainting and updating the overall offices decor. It feels like it's stuck in 2004) Staff 100 (absolute gems of staff here. Very caring and patient even with rather sketchy eye control in cerebral palsy exam. A CP exam can take up to 70% more time than a standard exam. Here a CP exam takes averaged across five exams approximately 20% longer than a standard persons exam which is impressive efficiency with high complexity care.) Equipment 100 (while cosmetic issues exist such as peeling paint actual equipment is kept in pristine condition and works as expected. In fact the auto diagnostic machine was so clean I plopped my head down and they said "hang on hang on I haven't even wiped it yet!" Your fault for it looking perfectly ready!) Workflow 85 (this one was the hardest to deduct for. They had a central interior waiting room with no windows for dilating patients. Instead they had everyone waiting in main today. Not sure if this was due to the water issue in the building or if this was a workflow defect. Will follow up next exam and remind them of proper use of the dilation room to avoid over irritation of patient eyes during the wait and to improve COVID-19 distancing for patients by keeping dilating patients away from the main waiting to protect them while eyes are in a more vulnerable state.) We were told the person handing out the glasses didn't know which case these went with. If not sure, they should provide any generic case that would hold the glasses in. They shouldn't make others make another trip just for the case. Or they should advise no one is available to hand out a new pair of glasses. So, I am disappointed. I love to go there for an eye exam, but not buying a pair of glasses. When calling back, I was told my insurance didn't cover the case. The total price of the glasses was a bit over $500. A portion of it was paid by insurance, the rest by me. Anyone selling glasses at that price should have a case to go with it, even a generic one. Imagine a kid getting his first pair of glasses and not be given a case with it, but have it wrapped in a foil. The manager was contacted. They apologized. She is shipping the case to us. It makes one wonder how much does one need to spend on a pair of glasses to have the case go with it.

They charged me $106 for restocking fee.. Then they asked for the glasses back. The only problem is I threw my old glasses away, so I did not have a replacement pair of glasses to wear.. they were no help to me at all so I am stuck with the glasses that don't fit my face right because they said they need the glasses back, and I personally cannot see without my glasses. There was a black-haired man in Optical also--I don't know if he's still there. The last time I was there, I'd asked him a question about the way my glasses rested on my face. At first, he dismissed me. When I pressed for an answer, he became agitated, scowling and loudly telling me he didn't "understand." I tried to calmly explain again as he stood there, arms crossed with the scowl on his face until a kind, blonde woman intervened. I've been a long-time patient at ABC&E's Vernon Hills location but will now make the Mundelein…read moreoffice my "home base" thanks to the warm, focused and extremely competent service I received today, secondary to the optometrist's removal of a migrated contact lens in my right eye. The "mojo" of this office, relative to the Vernon Hills site, was completely different in the most positive respect. An actual receptionist heartily greeted me on arrival with a warm smile and focused demeanor, all but absent, unfortunately, at the Vernon Hills site, which seemed understaffed and in some respect unwelcoming. The Mundelein site's optometrist, whose name I did not request, unfortunately, was the paragon of kindness, warmth and acumen. Her personality was warm, her procedural concern extremely capable and her general attentiveness exemplary. Frankly I was not accustomed to this standard of care from the other location, capable though all staff seemed to be. The site's general manager, Tai, was also very personable, sociable and proud of his operation. Here was a gentleman who takes great pride in his work and team and he is highly commended as one who strives to run not only a tight ship, but a humanistic one. I cannot recall any visit to the Vernon Hills shop that in any manner possessed and/or offered the confluence of "feel good" factors that I experienced in Mundelein this morning. In summary, I have long had affinity for the ABC&E offerings. Having visited and experienced the Mundelein paradigm today, there is no going back to Vernon Hills in light of my exposure to a much enhanced, and appreciated, customer service approach and experience. This location is fantastic and highly recommended.

Last time I picked out glasses with them, the tech I worked with was super helpful and actually selected my frames for me - something I'd never pick off the shelf myself. I love them! The practice typically has good promotional deals going on when I need to order new contacts too, so that's nice.
