Shop Common Thread is a women's boutique in River Street Marketplace, and we sell outfits, not items. Walk in and someone will pull for you, based on your body, your week, and the dinner on Friday you have not thought about yet. Tell us where you are going and we will build the outfit, including the piece you would have walked past.
Styling here is free. No appointment, no fee, no minimum purchase. It is not a service you book on the side, it is just how we shop.
Ask for Victoria, Andrea or Cece by name. Any of them will start with what is already hanging in your closet.
What we do: styling for everyday, work, travel and events. Outfit building around pieces you already own. Denim that fits a real body. Gift shopping when you have no idea what to get her.
We carry straight sizes, XS through L depending on the brand. We do not carry activewear, menswear or plus sizes, and we would rather tell you up front than have you make the drive.
Our customer is usually a woman in her thirties or forties with taste and no time. She is not chasing trends. She wants to feel like herself again, evolved.

Established in 2006.
We opened in 2006 with a simple idea that has not changed in twenty years.
Women walk in with taste, a budget, and a closet full of clothes they cannot turn into outfits. They do not need more options. They need someone to say wear this with that, and mean it.
So that is the store we built. Someone who knows what came in this week, remembers what you bought last time, and will tell you honestly when something is not working. No hovering, no pressure, no selling you a top that goes with nothing.
Two Orange County locations now, Costa Mesa on 17th Street and San Juan Capistrano in the River Street Marketplace. Same team, same approach. Twenty years of getting women dressed and out the door feeling like themselves.
Meet the Business Owner: Steph C.
I went to school for retail, which is a real degree. Then PR at Neiman Marcus, then escrow because it was half the hours and twice the money. Miserable inside a year.
We opened in 2006 as a maternity shop called Xpecting. The women who came in for their first baby came back for their second, and kept coming long after they needed maternity clothes. So we changed the clothes and kept the part that mattered, which was knowing them.
What we keep seeing is a woman with great taste in a store full of clothes, walking out with nothing. Not because there was nothing good. Because nobody told her what went with what. Twenty years later that is still the whole job.
We ask where you are going this week and pull for you. We say when something is not right, even when it costs us the sale. We are not here to sell you a wardrobe. We want you to get dressed on a Tuesday without thinking about it and feel like yourself.
