Beautifully located and super host Sherlee has a generous soul that guides you with trips for trails, places to visit and it is amazing what her family is doing in the region! The breakfast in the patio is unforgettable, and truly every detail of the cottage -the films and books available of the evening entertainment as well as table games and the fire place- is perfect!!! Every detail here speaks of the love and care they put to build and run it, and I guarantee the same love and care they will give you for your holidays, gifting you the best time in nature. We spent 4days with family and small dog and we didn't wanna leave! Cottages are Fully equipped, mattresses super comfy and the tables outside make even the dinners home very special. Their garden is rich in colors and even the herbs section is magical. Nice pool and jacuzzi for evening relaxation. Get there and you will live an unforgettable experience. Bravissimi!!!!

The main dining/living room was hard to leave. I stayed up there every night ready and just enjoying the environment. The breakfasts were wonderful and unique. Very good. We were able to hike in Yosemite using the YARTS bus system ($30 round trip) & came home to a freshly made bed & homemade cookies every night after hiking all day. Liz made us a delicious breakfast at 8:30am (although she did ask if we wanted it earlier) & we caught the YART into the park at 9:15- hiking by 10am. Our hosts were fantastic, the room (top floor) was HUGE & definitely cool- even on a 95 degree day (those other reviews are ridiculous- Liz had no issues keeping us comfortable- in both AC use & shade for breakfast). On the last day of our trip the YART busses didn't show up for our trip back & Ron rescued us from the park late at night (we were literally stranded in Yosemite). I will say If you are in your 20s, looking to party this isn't the place for you. If you are a recluse not wanting to socialize, this isn't the place for you. But If you have 4 kids & plan on leaving them at home- this is totally worth it. In every aspect. My husband & I played scrabble at night with white claws & listened to the river... we slept in... someone else cooked for us...we hiked all day & came home to a cozy bed & friendly faces. Ron & Liz are definitely "chatty" as some have mentioned in other reviews, but you're staying in their home- so we felt it was all apart of the B&B adventure/experience. We will 100% stay here again and recommend it to all of our friends.

Eddie greeted us upon arrival and walked us around the area, showed us local sites, and gave us local secrets about the area. We found out about Bass Lake and never would have known what a great local place it is. We stayed in the Cedar room and it exceeded our expectations. The room was a good size, huge bathroom and little mini fridge. Double doors opened to the outside and we had the main door that opened to the hallway. Our room was at the very beginning so no noise at all. The AC was cool and the fan was quiet. We enjoyed the bed and breakfast concept and mingled with the other patrons while we were there. Everyone was very friendly and we all talked about Yosemite and our experiences. I recommend stating here for the great price and atmosphere, along with all the amenities. Thanks Eddie!!!

We arrived to Sonora by way of Ebbetts Pass, winding down through crystal alpine lakes, faerytale meadows and boulders and forests that speak in quiet and ancient tongues. The pass opened upon amber grasses contrasted against lovely sagey-colored trees and verdant yet rugged vineyards. It turns out the Victorian-inspired Barretta Gardens is overseen with a care as golden as the hue of sepia-colored days gone past and motherlodes once legendary for their bounty. Yet breakfasts are as simple, elegant and memorable as any contemporary B&B can boast. The proprietors Astrid and Daniel run an inn as refreshing as the Moroccan mint tea set out every afternoon to greet us from a hot day exploring Gold Country. We found Barretta Gardens flexible and welcoming to our two boys as well. Our only suggestion is that if they choose to turn off each room's A/C while guests are away for the day that they would turn it back on in anticipation for their return in the evening. Baretta Gardens B&B is a rare treasure I hope more visitors to the area will mine for years more to come.

I feel bad now that the old owners sold the place and they never got my positive review. There is new ownership here, but nothing has really changed. Everything seems to be the same quality. Every time I'm up in Shaver Lake, I opt to bring my crew here and they love it. Quiet, safe, and we always battle over who gets the upstairs Jacuzzi tub room. Yes, there are other places in Shaver that look equal to this one, or maybe even more updated and very different, but if you're looking for coziness and "hygge"... This is your place.
