Always a great time when we stay here each year around April. This year we have 21 international high school students and various accommodations. If you book a private room you will have a hotel style room with nice linens and private shower/bathroom. We leaders had a room with queen and two twins. We stayed at Bug Resort during our Yosemite trip. The location is about 40 minutes from the Arch Rock entrance and roughly an hour from the Valley Floor. We booked a private room with a bath, which was comfortable, a bit outdated, but fine for our stay. Since there weren't many photos or videos online, I wasn't sure what to expect, but the resort turned out to be charming. There are nice amenities including a walking trail, campfire area, laundry, foosball, spa, and café. The café served a great breakfast, though dinner was just okay. The steak could've used more seasoning, and the noodle dish was average. Both meals were generous portions. We did have an issue at the spa during the muscle rejuvenation soak, as both of us had an allergic reaction. We weren't able to use the hot tub or sauna afterward, which was disappointing. However, we spoke with the owners and they agreed to refund us- still pending as of September 2, but I appreciate that they took responsibility. Another plus is that the resort is only about 15 minutes from Mariposa, where you can find unique shops and restaurants. Overall, we wouldn't mind staying here again, though the drive back and forth from Yosemite did get a bit tiring. read more

We stayed in horsetail B tent/cabin. Had two twins and one full bed. The cabin had ac/heater and a small fan. Restrooms and showers are shared and the laundry room has better sinks to brush your teeth than the toilet rooms. Breakfast at the cafe was good. If you are someone who wakes up in the middle of the night to use the restroom keep in mind you have to walk to the communal bathroom unless you pay for the cabins with private restroom. They gave us two keys but only one worked. It didn't bothered us since we were only two people. The beds are surprisingly comfortable. read more

Although the name is a little offputting, this is a great place to stay when visiting Yosemite. There's a wide variety of accommodations even a coed dorm. There's a whole kitchen you can use if you're staying there. The restaurant called the Junebug Café is someplace you don't wanna miss Because their chefs are really talented and the decor is warm and welcoming, including a fireplace.. They also have a spa downstairs with a big hot tub and sauna, and you can even get massages and do yoga there. I live near nearby and try to make it there as often as possible. read more

This is wonderful place. Has a small office, common kitchen fully loaded and eating space where you can eat together with everyone, a play area with some pool tables, enough parking spots and multiple bathrooms and shower rooms. We got a small room with a queen bed. It was small but perfect for two people. The only issue we saw the wifi didnt reach our tent, so we had no network! They also have a cafe nearby but it is way too expensive. Theres a spa with a day charge which is great too. Overall great for the price, specially when compared to other places nearby. read more

I have stayed here several times and this has now become a traditional part of my Yosemite experience. The Bug is a great place to meet people. They have private rooms, cabins, and hostel style dorms available (with shared bathrooms and kitchen). -There is a bonfire right by the Cafe, which is a great way to end a day and fantastic way to meet other people. -There is also a spa, which has both a public hot tub and private tub rooms and massages available for bookings. -The June Bug café is located in the center, which has amazing food and once again a fantastic place to either people watch or mingle with other guests. read more

They have no shuttle for seniors or disabled guests coming off the Amtrak bus of Midpine. Carrying bags packs and luggage on foot with a 65 yrs old with knees injury and a cane, a 60 yrs old with back pain, deaf and heart issues. Cooking here was a good experience. No dishwasher, I couldn't find A sponge but did find a dish towel and soap. The house has great water pressure. A very large LG TV with Netflix, also there are multitude of games in the cabinet underneath the TV. The beds were very comfortable Bats fly over at twilight. I'd stay here again. Quaint and comfortable stay just a 50 minute drive from Yosemite. ~Location~ This resort is located up in the mountains and has multiple options for different types of rooms ranging from hostel-type to shared bathrooms to private rooms. We opted for the private room with a bathroom and enjoyed it. ~Rooms~ We were assigned the Glacier cabin which comes with an attached bath. We shared a wall with the cabin next door but did not have any complaints regarding noise or sound. Cabin- 5/5: clean and comfortable room. There was a refrigerator included in room which was super convenient for snacks. One of my favorite things were the hot showers. Nothing like a nice hot shower after a long day of hiking. They also had a fan and AC unit in the room which worked perfectly. Bed- 5/5: The bed was comfortable and I felt like I had a pretty decent night's rest for being away from home ~Parking~ They have a few parking lots and depending on how full it gets, you may need to park on the sides. We were there for labor day weekend and parking did get pretty busy during the weekend rush. ~Staff~ 5/5: Friendly and accommodating staff ~Food~ 4/5: On site restaurant for quick meals and coffee in the AM. We enjoyed two dinners at the restaurant. When you read the name of this place, there is cause for concern, so don't take the name lightly! I'm terrified of bugs, but since options for hotels were limited for our visit to Yosemite (either expensive or far from Yosemite), we decided to give this place the benefit of the doubt cuz why would you advertise that there are bugs in your rooms?!?! We stayed in one of the private rooms (Bear A). During our stay, we encountered 3 bugs in our room (2 spiders, and 1 bee). One of the spiders was on the bathroom ceiling, so we couldn't reach it to kill it. The other spider was in the shower. The bee was also in the shower, but it was already dead in a puddle of water. For fear that the spider would fall on our heads while we were in the bathroom, we asked the lady in the front desk if they could provide a ladder or have someone come in to kill the spider. The lady in the front desk said the maintenance guys were out, but she was able to get one of the cafe guys to come assist and kill the spiders. Thank goodness for the hero who came to rid our room of the spiders. He truly deserves a medal. Here is the breakdown: Room overall: 1/5. Our room was Bear A. There were lots of marks and stains in the room, so it definitely wasn't the nicest room ever. The room was also quite snug and on the small side. It had two twin beds, which were very creaky and not very comfortable. The room also has a private bathroom. Bathroom was quite small, especially the sink since there was barely any surface area to put your stuff on. There were bottles of what I am guessing were body wash, shampoo, and conditioner, but the bottles weren't labeled so I have no idea what I put in my hair and on my body. As I mentioned before, there seems to be a bug issue, since we came across 3 bugs in our room in the span of two days. Even around the outside of the cabins (on the deck and the stairs), there were lots of spider webs. It would be nice if this place tried to at least clean the outside of the cabin a bit to prevent bugs from entering. Parking: 3/5. There were two parking lots. If you park in the lower lot, you have to walk up an incline in addition to stairs to get to your cabin. The upper lot is harsh for the car since it has gravel. At least parking is free Wifi: 3/5. Free wifi, which is a must because there is no service here. Wifi isn't the fastest, but it works Noise: 3/5. No major issues here, but since the cabins/rooms were close together, you can hear some noises. Service: 5/5. Service here is quite stellar. They do try their best to make your stay as comfortable as possible. The staff is very friendly, and the front desk lady went above and beyond to find someone to take care of the spider problem. The cafe guy who killed the spider also went above and beyond. Accessibility to Yosemite: 3/5. It's about 40 ish minutes to the entrance of Yosemite, but there's a section that is a one way road, so traffic is stopped to allow cars to take turns on the bridge. This causes delays so the drive to Yosemite will likely be longer, closer to an hour drive. Overall, if it weren't for all the bugs in our room, I would say our stay would have been a solid 3/5 stars (even with the small rooms and uncomfortable beds), but the bugs situation was really disappointing. read more

Stayed at the Hummingbird Cabin and it was comfortable for 2 adults and 1 child. It was like an in-law unit, across the street from the Starlite Inn, and down the street from the Yosemite Bug Cafe and check-in. I liked how the cabin was comfortable with a full kitchen inside. There was space for one car as the driveway to get to the cabin was steep. Had to go to the Yosemite Bug for any fixes (the bathroom light went out and we needed to replace it) or towels since no one answered the listed phone number but we enjoyed our stay. The food at the Yosemite Bug Cafe was pretty good. I liked the crusted cod for dinner and the American breakfast with oatmeal. Overall I would recommend this place and would go back. read more

This place was like the Hilton of the mountains! Seriously, it truly a resort and have everything that you need. I'm sad that I found out that there were massages and a spa like right before I left! I stayed in the hostel portion of the resort. The beds were comfortable and lockers were present (although my lock was too small to use it). The other people in the hostel were also young travelers so the vibe was just right. My only gripe with the room was the lack of outlets. Had to charge me phone and computer in the bathroom, but like I said, the vibe was right so it was all good. The bathrooms were a pleasant surprise! There are two private shower stalls and two private toilets! It was quiet comfortable to use. I was also upset that I found out the the food is AMAZING like right before I checked out. There are several vegan options on the menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner!!! I had a tofu scramble breakfast burrito and it was the size of my head! I absolutely could not eat it all. On everyone of my stays I've had an impeccable room. This stay was a favorite. Our room was exquisitely antique. I've read some of the negative reviews and frankly those folks need to get a grip. If you want to stay on a concrete building go for it. This place is beautiful set in the wilderness. Our bedding was pristine and clean. Our room was spotless. The food was OUTSTANDING; as always. No compassion. I can see by the response to other unpleasant customers that they won't really care about your issues. All I was asking for was for a refund for one night after having a bad experience with the ac and overheating. The guy that was there the night of 8/31 was so nice and even tried to fix the ac himself since maintenance wasn't on the property at the moment. He couldn't unfortunately fix it and my husband overheated and got what seemed like heat exhaustion. The ac wasn't fixed until after 9 Pl way past time time we wanted to go to sleep. We had reservations for the park for Sunday that now we won't be able to use since I have to drive us home now. I wanted to put that 135 to a hotel for the night on our drive home. Seeing as the resort was fully booked I can't imagine that $135 would affect them how the $135 will affect us. It wasn't my first time at Yosemite Bug but now it will definitely be my last time and I'm sure they won't care. read more

We had an awesome time here!! We stayed at the Half Dome cabin B and it was very clean. Love the mattress and pillows were so comfortable. We had the best sleep. We were very comfortable and warm inside. A little skeptical at first when we entered our cabin. The furnishings are very old (headboard, bed frame, decorations, portraits, chairs, tables, drawers) I mean they can look old and rustic but it doesn't have to look beat up There were no TV and WiFi was barely there. Or at least have a TV in the cafe. For the price that we paid per night we just expected a little more. Our overall stay was fantastic. Would recommend to friends and family. This is my first and last stay of two nights at a badly maintained facility located on a road to excellent Yosemite. The wall heater had a lit pilot, but did not heat. Part of the mattress of the queen size bed fell to the floor during the second night. Their advertised 'Superior private rooms with baths' are also advertised with refrigerators. It had a small 'beverage cooler', non-working without electricity, and secured in a bathroom closet without a way to even find the electrical connection. The front door light was such a dim glow that a flashlight was needed to see the stairs located four feet from the door. The management is practiced in the avoidance of dealing with issues. Those young people work for owners who ap'parently' set the pace for their hired 'children'. Here is the full breakdown, literally. Early June 2023, I arrived about 10:15 PM. It was cold. The room was cold. The wall heater pilot was on, but the wall thermostat did not activate it. There is a wall heat pump. It was on but I did not get heat. The desk person came with me to look. She could not work the wall heater. She did get the heat pump to begin giving heat. Good. Oh, by the way, if arriving later as I did, you might be parking at an overflow lot about 1,000 feet beyond regular parking, up a steep drive at a 200 foot elevation gain. It is a hike. Do not forget anything in your car. I found parking the second night. She said 'maintenance' would look at the wall heater tomorrow. The heat from the pump was okay, but seemed like sleeping by a diesel truck-stop. In the morning, the man at the desk said they turn off wall heaters about this time of year and depend on heat pumps. So, why was the pilot on full blast? At the end of 'tomorrow' I purchased food to put in what I thought was a small refrigerator. But it was a beverage cooler and was dead and unmovable. I told the woman at the desk, the same one who was there the first night. She was hostile to my coming in the door because she said the office was closed and she was finishing helping some new arrivals. Come tomorrow. She listened when I said thank you for helping with the heat last night. Her attitude changed. "By the way, the small 'fridge' does not work. Can someone look at it tomorrow?" What could she say, due to arrivals? She had been hostile. There is a hostel there, too, [a play on words] and a large cooler is in the dining area for them. I suggested that I use it. She agreed. Wow. So, up the hill - to the 'Superior private room with bath and refrigerator {sic}' that was dead, and back downhill to the dining area, and up to bed. The bed - about 4 AM, it went 'plop'. My feet were at floor level. The slightly undersize plywood sheet under the springs had come off the side rails. I was glad to be leaving that morning. I thought, if the owner does poor management and maintenance, then what else is inconsistent? So, I decided to take pictures and give a report. Note the picture of the wall notice PLEASE HELP US CONSERVE - Water & Septic, Gas, Electricity. The glass is cracked like their activity in the program. The next picture shows the toilet tank is old high flow, not low flow. The furnace pilot is full on, but the heater burner cannot be activated. A standing pilot uses about 1/3 of the total gas for a furnace that is fully operational. So, why is it not turned off? Note the carpet in the picture of the bed breakdown. It is worn, and I wonder what it holds from over the years. Some furniture is real retro and some is faux. When leaving in the morning, I mentioned to the man that a bed partially collapsed onto the floor, at 'Sentinel Dome - B'. He remarked, "Was it the queen bed?" I said, "That's the one." A-mazed. I wasn't sure what to expect when we arrived, but I was blown away at the following: * Cleanliness of the entire establishment. * Very well stocked toiletries, such as shampoo, conditioner, body wash and such. * Spa was very tempting and looked beautiful.. even thought we didn't use the facilities. * The food was AMAZING! Better than many restaurants we have frequented. * There was an option of a "trail lunch" that was very hardy and delish * Staff was always happy and accommodating. * Kitchen was very orderly and well stocked with whatever you would need to cook. * Great bargain for all the amenities and location. Stayed 2 nights w/ friends for our Yosemite trip. Yosemite bug was recommended to me through Reddit and I'm glad I trusted it. If you know what to expect at Yosemite Bug and what to bring based off of those expectations along with camping experience you will love this place. We rented a 3 bed tent. Very clean tidy. I didn't see a single bug in our tent all weekend. Beds were great. Bathrooms were quite tidy and can't complain about the showers. They both exceeded our expectations. Bring shower shoes, bring bug spray. Bring extra fans if you are a cold sleeper. Our tent didn't have any heating or cooling so we moderated that ourselves. The resort is an easy 45 mins away from Yosemite and a great way to unwind or get ready for the day. Can't recommend enough and I will be back! read more

Loved staying here!! We tent camped on the hilltop and had the greatest stay. Large campsites with picnic tables and gorgeous star gazing at night. It was a treat to have real showers and the hostel kitchen available during our stay, and everything was super clean and well stocked. June Bug Cafe was AWESOME!! Wifi was reliable, not super fast but sufficed for remote work. And all the staff we interacted with were super nice. Would recommend highly and will come back! read more

What an amazing place, its rustic and affordable. All of the staff was very friendly and accommodating. The restaurant was fantastic. The food was great and clean. In the 3 days I was there the menu had small changes daily, to keep things changing and maintaining fresh ingredients. No Fried Crap.....I will come back for the food alone. I have stayed closer to the park in the more expensive hotels and I will never do that again. It does take about 30 minutes to get the Yosemite entrance gate. The first night of arrival the power was out for hours. No big deal, it was almost romantic by candlelight. But the tubs we're closed which was the main draw. However the cafe refused to charge our room and feed us dinner- they would only accept exact change in cash (it's not like there's another food option nearby!). So we ate blueberries by the light of our phones. Fast forward 20hrs- they evacuated the resort related to a near by fire and didn't notify ANYONE! No phone call text or email! We arrive at the roadblock having spent the day hiking in Yosemite to discover that my vehicle was locked inside! Why would you lock a car inside a gate especially when there was plenty of time to evacuate? The employees evacuated the place within an hour and threw the guests belonging into bags, but legit left behind tons of belongings (we went back in to get my car after an hour of running around to find half my clothes were still in the room). Idk if it was the managers house or the owners we retrieved our belongings from but those people were not in the least worried about their guests. When I asked why they didn't call everyone they replied "oh we didn't have time" as he's standing in the driveway playing with his dog. I also asked why they didn't have any idea that 6hrs after we left we might need to evacuate, and he replied " well we told our employees to let people know that the fire was getting closer"- which was just bullshit bc no one said anything to us. We were at the reception desk twice that morning asking questions and the only thing they said was that it was a brushfire they would have out soon. Also, no refund issued 9 days later. At least refund people's money! Having been in the Tubbs fire I can attest that this scene was a shit show. Totally unnecessary and done with so much carelessness around the entire scene. If you have a resort in fire country you better have a plan to protect your guests. Be better. read more

This stay is a total steal if you get it. Located conveniently right in the middle of Yosemite park entrance and Mariposa town. The cabin was very clean and the toilets were absolutely clean. The prices were very reasonable for the quality of the stay. It was overall and fun place. I'd recommend to anyone visiting Yosemite. And although we didn't get to eat at the June bug cafe inside, we heard it's good. But they do have a strict timing for the food they serve. I think lunch closes before 1 pm and dinner begins at 6 pm. read more

Waste of money. Everything about this place is ghetto. They advertise super faster internet, BIG FAT LIE! Internet only works in certain spots, my cabin had no usable internet which made my stay after a hike BORING. No TV, no cable no nothing. The room is dirty, I walked barefoot in my room and my feet looked like I was walking outside. The rooms furniture is full really old shitty furniture that is ready to be donated. Read the reviews of the past year: Be sure to do a Yelp search of NEW reviews, not the ordinary Yelp Suggests search, and AVOID the Bug! I've stayed at this place on two different occasions. The first visit, several years ago, was just fine. I had a decent room at an affordable rate. The music and food at the cafe were great and the visit to the spa was even better. That's where the sweet part of this story ends. On my second visit, within the last month, I was VERY disappointed. Though seeming somewhat clueless, the staff was courteous enough upon check in; HOWEVER, they put me in a room that had no bathroom or shower in it--one had to leave the room, go out in the cold, and take a cold shower in a separate cold area, known as a communal restroom. This situation wasn't explained to me explicitly and it isn't easy to solve problems here as the front desk is in a building that may be way up or way down a hill from where you are actually staying. I go to the communal freezing restroom and there was a SPIDER web, complete with a spider, in the bathroom, leading me to believe that the area had not been fully cleaned in a month--at least. I don't mind a bug NOW AND THEN, Yosemite Bug, and I'm not that afraid of spiders, but I like a clean place to go to the restroom, one not infested with spiders, preferably. I was freezing in the shower which NEVER had warm water and I found that it was a miserable experience already. I came back to the room and the heater in the room wasn't working. So, I'm cold and shivering from a shower without soap/shampoo and then I have a cold room to come back to after the cold walk outside back to my room. This is April and yes, the Yosemite area can still be cold, especially at night, in the month of April. I had to run down the hill to the desk. I told the front desk person about the freezing water and lack of soap and shampoo in the shower and he suggested that I take a little walk over to the hostel, about a hundred YARDS away from my room and take a shower there where I would probably find some soap and shampoo. I'm a guest at the hotel/motel, and he suggests that I use the hostel's services instead? With no lowered rate? No shampoo? No soap? I ended up BUYING the expensive soap they had in the shop from the same insipid front desk clerk. I returned to the room and it was still freezing in the room, so I turned the heat up from 70 to 80, then eventually 90, where the heat did finally kick on after a LONG time of waiting. But--that was the ultimate fail. When I woke up an hour or two later it was boiling hot in the room. There was no in-between with the room temperature. It was HOT or COLD, essentially. So, middle of the night, I get up sweating from the sweatbox of a room, having to go to the bathroom, leave the room, walk over to the no-temperature-control (or not-functioning-heater) freezing communal bathroom and then freeze my butt off to go to the restroom. At some point, I went to the spa to hopefully warm up in a hot tub. I could see that the place was packed. On a past visit, I was able to get a loaner swim suit and enjoy the place, but this time I paid for the spa and then had to wait and wait. Then I found out that they didn't have a loaner suit. If I had had the loaner swimsuit, I still wouldn't have fit in the hot tub as it was still packed by the time I left the place. I had forgotten that in the cafe you have to bus your own table. I remember having to pay at the counter for food (which is still good) but having to take your own empty plates up feels like summer camp to me. When you are paying a decent price for food (and even tipping when they will point out to you it is quite possible to tip) it feels degrading to have to bring your plates back up to the bins. Why I tipped them at all is beyond me! YB, you can run a hostel alongside your hotel, but don't get that confused with running a hotel next door and treating your hotel guests like they are hostile. This was a MISERABLE experience. One experience I do not wish to repeat. It is unfortunate, as the YB had a good thing going. Summed up: AVOID the BUG! read more
