The bows they have for the intro classes are recurve bows and our instructor was Mike. It was easy to follow his instructions and I enjoyed the hour we had in class. They also offer 6 week beginner classes (also taught by Mike) so it's a good option if you'd like to continue and learn more skills. The only negative was that when we needed to reschedule our class to next week, the coach that was supposed to contact me never did so I had to call to get the makeup lesson scheduled for us.

I found a Groupon for a shooting package for two, range admission, handgun rental, eye/ear protection, t-shirt and two targets per person. The only out of pocket cost was the ammo. Check in was easy, got set up for my safety class since I never shot a gun before. The weapon picked for shotting was a glock 9. We got set up in our lane and got our targets up and we were ready! It was a great 1st time experience, I felt supported and safe. Glad to have come across that groupon and knock off that experience!

Unfortunately, it has only gotten worse. ​Rude Front Desk: The older gentleman you pay for your table makes you feel like you are bothering him just by asking a simple question. He completely drains the fun out of the visit. ​Power-Tripping Range Officers: While I completely understand and respect the absolute necessity of gun safety, the RSOs here cross the line into being flat-out rude. They yell at shooters and treat you like you've never handled a firearm before. ​Zero Urgency: When there is a waitlist, the staff shows absolutely no urgency to get shooters assigned to open tables. ​I've been to many ranges, and this is easily one I would never recommend to anyone. They act like you're using their personal firearms and ammo. I won't be back, and I'll be making sure my friends avoid this place as well.

Rio Salado Sportsman is part of the shooting range and offers a wide variety of instruction. Parking 5/5 Parking was plentiful at the Training Building. Arrived at 8:30 and met members of my Medical & Safety Teams. Training Event 10/5 This is our second Team training event here. Stop the Bleed was our last class. Today's was part of our teams two year CPR & AED re-certification class. The class was taught by Battalion Chief Mark Cichocki. This was an instruction and hands on curriculum using Adult and Infant dummy torsos for the CPR and AED practice. Instructor "Fire Battalion Chief" Mark was outstanding. His years serving in fire and rescue was apparent, his instruction smartly mixed with real world examples was perfect. Mark's delivery style kept things moving and interesting. Value 10/5 $30pp no cert and $60pp for the two year certifications are exceptional price points compared to the big organizations ARC & AHA. Rio Salado sportsman 5/5 Their training center building is large and equipped to handle a wide variety of events and classes. Thank-you Rio Salado Sportsman. Upon entering, everyone who plans to use the range needs to sign a waiver. There's a QR code on a sign standee when you walk in. There's waiver is extensive and I can appreciate the forethought and of course the business trying to protect the customers and themselves. This place has everything someone needs to use the range and there's also the ability to purchase guns and accessories here as well. In terms of the range itself, there's two sections and many lanes which is nice. My wish list item would include more space to place our items to make loading the magazines easier. Other than the space and table considerations, it was a good experience. I will also say it seems louder here than other ranges even with double ear protection. I also appreciated the Father's Day special they had today, that was nice and made the cost less than it would have been for our group of 3.

There were four of us total, but one of the wives didn't want to shoot, so two dads and one wife were all able to shoot for just the $22 hourly lane fee for the one shooter. That was a really nice deal. The range itself was clean and well maintained. I believe the maximum distance was around 30 yards, although I could be off on that. They had two range sections that seemed to be geared toward different firearms, with one appearing shorter for pistols and the other longer for rifles. From what I could tell though, both sides allowed either type. They also have a small selection of pistols and rifles for sale if you want to browse. The ammo prices are definitely marked up compared to most stores, but that's pretty much what I expect from a shooting range, so it wasn't surprising. The staff was friendly, and the employee working the range did a great job staying on top of things. He was constantly sweeping up spent brass whenever people didn't clean up after themselves, which helped keep the range looking nice. Overall, it was a solid experience. Good staff, a clean range, and a great Father's Day promotion. I'd definitely come back for another range day.
