Some may think I'm exaggerating, but this is hands down the best sandwich shop in Los Angeles County. I've been coming here since I was a girl, and I always stop by whenever I'm in Santa Monica. The Clevelander sandwich is delicious if you want a uber savory sandwich with hint of sour (sauerkraut!). If you're looking for something fresh, the Riviera is lovely with lots of veggies and a grilled chicken. Portions are large so I usually share with a loved one. Coleslaw and potato salad are A+. They've grown a bit since childhood, so they now have a lot of candy options! There's wine selection, too. The cafe is always packed, but folks serve your order rather quickly. I've waited maybe 10-15 minutes which is good considering the long lines. It's a very chatty space from my experience. Very lively and jovial. Servers are a lot kinder now than they were when I was a girl. It's been 15 years, so they've hired new staff I guess and it's for the better! read more

Breakfast at Shoops... yes please! Shoops is a European Market & Cafe that serves up scrumptious breakfast, salads, sandwiches and soups all focused around quality and freshness. Shoops is family owned and operated, which you can tell from the moment you walk in. The friend I went with has been going here for years and the staff knows her and her family. The staff truly treated us like family! They have a very extensive menu and truly have option for everyone! After having a hard time deciding on just one meal I opted for the mushroom omelet with potatoes and toast, which was so yummy! They are known for their hot-smoked salmon, which looks very popular and in many dishes. I'll have to give this a try during my next visit. This place gets very busy on the weekend so go early or expect to wait if you have to. The wait is well worth it though! They also have a wide variety of European candies and snacks located in the market, which is fun to walk around a check out too! read more

It's great to have a European market, but I was lied to by the staff regarding the ingredients in the potato salad. I am vegan (and do not eat pork for religious reasons!) and was told the potato salad was vegan. Having not eaten pork in over 15 years (the last time it was "slipped" to me), this caused me to have horrendous food poisoning. read more

One of our favorite casual brunch spots. The smoked salmon/gravlax plate specifically is to die for and their coffee is excellent. I always get a dirty chai and it's perfection. My only critique is they will not make your breakfast potatoes well done even if you ask they are still virtually under done every time, if they can fix that I wouldn't go anywhere else! read more

My sister and I were finally seated inside and sat waiting for a server, and waited, and waited, and waited. I finally went to the counter and asked if we had a server. "Oh, sorry". My sister had a sandwich that she barely touched and was too embarrassed to send back and she'll eat pretty much anything. My sandwich was okay. This is a lovely family owned market in Santa Monica. The service is amazing, they really get to know there costumers and treat them like family. Food is top notch, but I'm writing this review while waiting in line to close my tab. We come weekly. Y'all are living in the 1990's with how you take reservations and close the tab. If you've been here, you know what I'm saying. Shoops could def run a quicker check out if the wait staff had hand held credit card readers. Prob will save them so much time and energy as well. I live very close to Main Street, so the fact that I hadn't tried Shoop's until recently is a bit crazy! I'm not sure what took me so long! Shoop's gives the perfect neighborhood vibe. Everyone was nice and there was lots of room. They set up a bunch of tables in the former parking lot. The service was excellent, our server BEA was the best. Incredibly fast service. Review of the breakfast This food taste like homemade (but better because you don't have to do it yourself). We went on a Saturday morning and got seated right away which is always a plus. They have an expansive menu but I went basic pancakes, bacon, and eggs and got a side of potatoes. My bf got the famous bacon pancakes, eggs, and sausage. I thought the pancakes were wonderful!! My bf LOVED the bacon pancakes! He said they were perfect!! The surprise of the day were the potatoes. So garlicky and well seasoned I felt like I made them myself! Customer service is friendly although I think they might be a little understaffed for the post Covid life but I can't hold that against them. They did great for what they have to face these days. I had a mushroom omelette and a banana pancake and both were outstanding. My wife thought the bacon was cooked perfectly - crisp and flavorful. Been patronizing this establishment forever. The owner is delightful with a beautiful smile and joyful personality who greets you from behind the counter and the staff is always friendly. The breakfast offerings are yummy especially any of their pancakes...when I have friends visiting, we stop there and grab sandwiches and beverages and walk 3 blocks down to the beach. But, what really makes me love this place is their variety of marzipans... Never realized this was said to be a German deli, I just love the variety of sweets and delicious offerings... always fresh and they survived the pandemic which is quite a feat. Just walk down Main Street and see how many places did not... ( this makes me so sad because Santa Monica will always be home to me ... ) Shoops is located in a smallish strip mall so parking is challenging, but there is always street parking. * bear in mind the SM parking meters are pricey and the meter "police" lurk stealthily waiting to write meter expiration tickets.* Bring lots of quarters bc it's $2.50 an hour ;). The place we originally wanted to go to was closed so we stumbled upon Shoop's by chance and I'm so glad we did! They have a little market area with super fun European products and then a nice deli where you can get different cheese, meats, etc. The restaurant inside is wonderful and while I didn't order the pancakes they looked incredible. The wrap I got was called the Danny's wrap and it was awesome. They use spinach wraps but it still felt very much like a breakfast burrito. It has bacon, avo, chicken, and swiss cheese in it!!! Service was more than excellent. The employees were very mindful in seating us and taking our orders. Ordered the BLT for lunch and it was the perfect portion for a kid-day bite. The ratio of lettuce, bacon, and tomato perfectly complemented eachother. They also used just the right amount of mayonnaise: it didn't overpower and the sandwich wasn't dripping with mayonnaise. My boyfriend likes the classic American breakfast items where as I tend to be more adventurous. Outdoor patio (seatng in the parking lot) or takeout available. Great selection of teas.
