Hallie was our waitress and she was super sweet. The restaurant was a bit on the empty side. The buffet tonight was their steak and seafood night. Although the fried fish and shrimp were pretty good they are cold. The smothered steak and gravy was very tender and delicious. I would avoid the broccoli cheddar soup though as it was burnt and old. The eggs were inedible, not even hot sauce could make them better. Most of the food had a film on the top of it meaning it's sat long enough for the air to dry out the top. Seasonings would go a long way to improve everything, most was bland and dry. I would have gotten a better meal from a hotel continental offering. I will say that the salad bar was stocked and fresh items were on it, but the hot bar was a hot mess. Very few things were filled, the items that were on the hot bar had a crust like substance from where they had sat without being stirred. The entire time we were there, absolutely no hot foods had been replenished...even the soup tasted burnt. The price has also went up by nearly two dollars as well. Our server was non-existent and when she returned she smelled as if she had just hot boxed a cigarette behind the dumpster. SKIP IT!!! read more

Stopped here for breakfast, only a couple people inside. Our waitress was not giving us attention. I asked for creamer with my coffee 3x then the 4th time I finally got creamer. Again, we were her only table it was that slow. Then we walked up to the counter to check out and she apologized because she was busy doing her opening tasks. As a long tome resident of Powell, I have eaten often at this location over the years. While never a Five Star restuarant, it was decent and family oriented and reasonablly priced. My wife and i visited 07/17/24 for Dinner, at Dinner time, a little after 6 PM. We were seated immediately because virtually no one was there (1st clue). We decided to have the buffet. Upon investigation, we found the food most unappetizing. The hamburger patties were shriveled, those that had cheese on them, had dried and the cheese was urecognizeable as cheese. The tater tots were in a warming tray buy cold, not cool, but cold! The mac and cheese was thick as paste, and the wings were so dried out you couldn't tear the meat from the bone. We asked for the manager, we made our case for poor food, he made statements about how difficult it is to keep the food at the right temperature and prsentable. This was past presentable, it was time for disposing of it. I must assume they ware attempting to minimize their loss, and sell what they already had. He did say they were preparing to put fresh food out, but they were playing catch up at this point. No thanks, were are leaving. We were charged $17.02 for 1 buffet and drink, after taxes and our Senior Discount. i paid instead of causing a stink, i regret that. We left and went to DINNER. My husband and I went to eat there the other night and our waitress/server, Kasi spent way to much time standing and talking about her psych meds and then, when we were paying our check, she slapped the other girl, manager (I think) on her bottom and made her super uncomfortable (by her body language) and it made us feel extremely uncomfortable as well. We are regulars and do not want this particular person in our presence ever again. The food was great but the service was terrible. Yikes. Best word for this experience. We walked here from our equally questionable hotel (Super 8), and waited a few minutes to even be noticed by anyone. Finally got sat in a booth that looked pretty clean until I looked down at the floor that was caked in food. After maybe 15 minutes of sitting there waiting for someone, not knowing whether the restaurant was simply self serve or not, we decided to go ahead and fix our plates. After discovering there was no silverware, we noticed every other table was being helped. We asked the hostess about this and she apologized and sent someone to our table. Our waitress was obviously overworked and stressing out, which is not her fault. Her rude behavior, however, wasn't really necessary. Overall, I'd give the food 2 stars, service 2 stars, and cleanliness 3 stars. read more

Let's be honest, you are not going to get fine dining at a Shoney's. That being said, for a southern buffet, this Shoney's hits the mark. I have been twice, and both times the salad bar has been very cold and consistently restocked, and the hot bar has been steaming and very hot. (Really, what more can you ask from a buffet?) As we sat and ate, the staff was very attentive to what was needed, and several regulars came in and chatted up the waitresses. Food is solid, and the prices for a buffet (10.45 weedays, 11.50 weekends) are great for how much food you get. I have also ordered an entree off the menu -- a chicken fried steak -- and though it was oily (hello, fried), it was hot and good. If you don't like the meats on the bar the night you go, the menu will have your back, and you still get all the salad, fruit, and veggies from the bar! If you've got a very hungry husband or a set of boys, or if you're like me and want homecooked-style food that you don't want to make, Shoney's will always have your back. Make sure to get some signature strawberry pie to go! At the time of this review, they had a 100 health score, with a very good, clean history. read more

Went there this evening and ordered the buffet. After getting my food, which by the way had biscuits the consistency of hockey pucks, I sat watching the people at the buffet, I noticed not everyone was wearing a glove as they were supposed to. Additionally young children were allowed to help themselves from items on the bar without assistance from a parent. With that being said, one young boy was actually coughing while at the bar and of course, the "sneeze" partition wasn't placed as low as he was. Ugh! Also noticed a young girl who proceeded to touch a lot of the food with her fingers while asking what they were from the lady working the bar. Again, no parent in tow to assist. I did not go back for any seconds of any food! I also watched the bus boy clean off tables and all scraps/crumbs left on the table went onto the floor, which at 6:30pm was hence, quite disgusting. The floor around the food bar was so sticky from people spilling syrup, my shoes stuck to the floor each time I took a step. Yuck! Needless to say, I won't be going back there anytime soon. Terrible experience. We waited for our waitress to take our order (she was doing something in the kitchen area). She finally took our order. One full buffet and one chopped steak well done. After all the salad was gone, still no entree. We had to stop another waitress for inquire about food. She sent out our waitress who was concerned (suddenly about removing finished plates)..since we were sharing table with our children and grandchildren. She said she would check on my order. Out comes the steak and baked potato..but the sirloin was deep fried and saturated with grease..crunchy on the outside and raw inside (yuck)...left it and paid check. This is without a doubt the best Shoney's restaurant in Knoxville. The buffet is loaded with wonderful home style comfort food such as minute steak and gravy, tender and crispy fried chicken, meatloaf, fried as well as baked fish, real mashed potatoes and gravy, tender green beans, Mac n cheese, turkey and dressing, homemade potato and red bean and cabbage soup, wings, etc depending on the day. There's breakfast every morning and an all day breakfast bar on Tuesday. The biscuits and gravy are delicious as well as the pancakes and bacon or sausage. The layout of the restaurant is retro and homey and always decorated on holidays. The management and staff are attentive and courteous. Check their health department scores and they are great. It's always clean including the bar area. They also have a great regular menu with lots of variety. Try the hot fudge cake, strawberry pie or the skillet chocolate chip cookie. You won't be disappointed! This restaurant is a hidden gem that Knoxville is very fortunate to have. read more
