Welp, we found our new go-to sushi place in Lincoln. Incredibly fresh selection! We started with the toro (blue fin tuna belly) nigiri. We have high standards for toro and blue fin after having had it in places where it was caught earlier that same day. It wasn't quite as amazing as it was in Japan and the Pacific but it was very high quality and delicious. We also had the sushi combo which was excellent and changed my mind about scallop nigiri. We also shared the tonkatsu ramen. It was seasoned extremely well with a rich broth. I think we were missing the egg but I will still order it againaha. We can't wait to go back! read more

This restaurant is where I had the best Philly sushi roll and Ramen! I was here in Lincoln visiting for work and I can hardly describe how delicious my meal was. Had a great meal here with the family while visiting our grandson at college. Ordered the Hawaiian, Deep Blue, Dragon King and Oh Yes Rolls. All were amazing. Shrimp and Veggie tempura appetizer along with Edamane both spicy and not spicy. The tempura batter was light and not greasy and the dipping sauce was delicious. Shrimp was cooked perfectly cooked and tender. Definitely would recommend. A cute little spot with an extensive menu of everything you would want and more. This has become one of my favorite restaurants to go to in Lincoln. If you enjoy Japanese food, this is a great place to try. The sushi they have is higher quality compared to the other places around town. They also do have a happy hour that I believe is all day Sunday. If you're not interested in sushi, there's a lot of other options on the main menu such as ramen, rice bowls, and udon. I don't really see this as an everyday type of place unless you go during lunch (I think they might have lunch specials) but a nice date night spot or overall more quiet dinner. read more

I came in with my wife for lunch a couple days ago and as always the food was great as always. However I have to give our experience all together a 4/5. Our server I believe her name was Jess, appeared to be (and smelled) like she had been drinking. The food was great! The portions were a little larger than I expected so that was a plus. We visited on a Sunday so happy hour was running all day. They have a full page back and forth dedicated to happy hour specials.... I mean I was seriously impressed. It is really hard to find good sushi without breaking the bank but you can find it here. Excellent and friendly service paired with generous portions and tastes that took us back to our time in Japan. Shokunin's arrival in town is a godsend for those looking to get some clean, delicious Japanese fare. As a Lincoln native, I can safely say that Shokunin easily beats out all the other Japanese restaurants in town (albeit, a small pool for sure.) I ordered a smattering of a la carte sushi orders (salmon, yellowtail, uni, blue-fin tuna, and tamago) and I couldn't have been happier with the quality of every piece! The melty melty blue fin tuna was the definitive winner of the night, with the giant servings of uni a close second. The quality of the fish is top notch. No fishy smell to any of the raw offerings. The bed of rice was perfectly sweet and fluffy. On top of that, we had the donkotsu ramen bowl and it blew us away as well. Clean, loaded with all the quintessential toppings (the egg was perfect.) On a subsequent visit, I had the una-don bowl and was equally shocked. The eel was cooked perfectly and wasn't too sweet. Chef Tony was also super nice and the wait staff is great. The only downside is that they seem to still be pretty fresh and unprepared for large crowds. They only opened a week ago, so it's reasonable. read more

Something to note: Different dishes come from different parts of the kitchen, so if you order ramen and your dinner date orders sashimi, you will likely not get them at the same time. The food comes out when it's ready. It might not what you are used to, but it is better this way because it means everyone gets their food while it is at it's freshest. The Tonkotsu Ramen is to die for, with the braised pork belly that literally melts in your mouth. Their sushi menu is extensive and has something for everyone to enjoy. Exceptional quality sushi. Their ingredients are so fresh and flavorful. I've dined here twice now and am far more fond of it than the two other sushi restaurants nearby. The atmosphere is pleasant, although the establishment itself is small. There isn't much seating, however I've been told they will be opening a patio section soon. The servers are friendly. The sushi chefs are also friendly and entertaining. They also seem to be quite knowledgeable about sushi and other Japanese cuisine. Other than sushi their menu does have a few hot dish items. I've been a few times now and I've enjoyed it each time. I've only sat on the patio so I don't know what the feel is like inside the restaurant but the outside is nice with the umbrellas for shade. The seafood ceviche is incredible. Their spicy salmon hand roll is real tasty. The orange blossom roll absolutely melts in your mouth. It's got tuna and avocado in the middle and salmon wrapped around the outside. I've also had the octopus nigiri. Executive chef here in town, never post but this one made me. First restaurant in Lincoln I have walked out of ever. If I could give 0 I would. 3 cooks, 1 server 5 tables in the whole place. Drink order 20 mins and the server forgot the drink menus and had to go back. 20 mins later said drinks arrive. So 40 minutes in we got our drinks! For the damn win! No sorry it gets better. We ordered our food with our drinks because we waited so long. So I'm patiently waiting 45 minutes...... 50 minutes....... 1 hour!!!! Alright I need another drink at this point so I go in and basically walk up to the fast food style counter and retrieve my said drink. Well 5 minutes later here comes the server with my second drink, mind you this is 60 minutes into my experience. So got a free beer for the win! No not for a win. Now we are into this said amazing sushi experience 1 hour and 20 mins later. Ask the server for something to snack on at least, get offered a salad lol. Arguably the best sushi in town. With there being 5 sushi restaurants within a .5 mile radius to the haymarket, the quality of the sushi here is the best by far. Unremarkable atmosphere unless the patio is open and it's a nice evening. Service is usually pretty solid. I would recommend the Sushi/sashimi combo or unagi don. Again, best quality and best technical execution I have seen in town. Highly recommend for takeout (no fried items in general for any takeout) or a nice patio evening. read more
