The only reason I don't give them 5 stars is because they are definitely catering to a more southern crowd, so a lot of the dishes are high in carbs. For example , the tuna tartare was served on bread and it wasn't really tartared, the tuna salad had croutons, too much creamy sauces. Over priced and mediocre food. We ordered this place on DoorDash, spent around 100$ for appetizer, sushi, and some sides. When we got our food, we were missing an appetizer that was around 20$ and a side that was around 5-8$. So we drove up there and she knew what the issue was when we said 'DoorDash order' and then told us they didn't have MANY items. She got it replaced but the fact they were so willing to take our money if we hadn't come back and complained. I arrived with a total party of six the other day. All seemed well initially and we were ready for hibachi so we decided to go to Shogun. The problem? After we were sat, we waited about 5 minutes in a not-so-busy restaurant to have our drink order taken. The following 20+ minutes resulted in no drinks, no food ordered, and a hungry party who collectively decided to throw in the towel and go to another establishment. I've been to shogun many times at multiple locations, but the ones I visited before weren't anything like this location! They had a variety of meats, seafood, hibachi and sushi. They offered cocktails and desserts as well. This place is definitely nicer than the shoguns I've been to in the past. We were excited when we arrived and was told it was only a 10 minute wait. We ended up waiting 30 minutes and was a little confused when another part of two walked in 25 minutes after us, a party of two, and were sat immediately while we were still waiting. We were then sat at a dirty table. After a few minutes, we were greeted and I asked if she would clean the table off. She came back a few minutes later with some dry paper towels...it obviously didn't clean the table so she moved us to another one. We were greeted by a very friendly server. We ordered a spicy salmon tempura roll which came out about 25 minutes after we ordered it and it was cold like it sat on the counter for a while. I ordered a small house salad which on the menu said it had tomatoes, cheese, croutons. I asked for ginger dressing. I got just lettuce with white sauce on it. It was delicious but not at all what I ordered but I was so hungry I wasn't going to complain. Dinner came, he ordered chicken hibachi and I came out fresh and hot. I ordered the seafood roll and a side of rice with white sauce. Just his food was delivered at first and my roll came shortly after. The sushi was very fresh and I liked the roll more than I expected! I waited a while and my rice never came, I heard my server talking about trying to hurry and get off work. I had to kind of shout excuse me multiple times to get her to come back over so I could ask about my rice. She didn't apologize just said oh okay as if I hadn't ordered it earlier. It came out hot and delicious, I love the white sauce! So, our 45minute dinner plans turned into two hours. I asked to see a manager and she said of course. The manager took 10 minutes to finally come over and when he did, he just told me it's not the servers fault. He did apologize and even took $10 off of our bill. Shogun offers the promise of a refined Japanese hibachi steakhouse, but fails to deliver on what matters most: delicious food and good service. After ordering two lunch Bento boxes I was told that they would be ready for pick up in 20 minutes. Arriving 20 minutes later I was first greeted by a health inspection sign posting a score of 91, with two findings relating to contamination. Not a good start. Upon entering, there was a host desk but no host, which forced me to hunt down a server, of which there were only two working that shift. When one was able to break free and speak to me, it was clear that my order had never been fired (I soon watched as it was). I was asked to take a seat at the bar and wait. And wait I did. It was another 15 minutes before I was handed my food. There were three tables and one grill working, so the delay was inexcusable. When I got home and opened the Bentos, what I discovered was disappointment in a plastic box. Wilting salad, dry, flavorless teriyaki chicken (clearly leftover from the previous night's service), and my wife's Bento was filled with overly cooked veggies and the saddest piece of Hamachi ever to be extracted from the sea. First and foremost majority of the people who eat here are RUDE AF to the staff. First, if you have to wait 30 minutes, then expect to wait from anytime from 30-45 minutes. If you can't wait, then leave. Also just because you state your vaccinated, doesn't mean you ignore masks rules when you're not eating. Then you have people complaining about all the smallest things. Anyways, after being seated, we were assisted to right away. However our server didn't seem to know the answers to a few things we asked about the things on the menu. Had to wait for her to come back and forth a couple times. My friend and I went with the sushi roll, sashimi, oysters and ramen. Funny story. I wanted oysters, BUTTTT they couldn't serve me the HALF DOZEN, they ONLY had the DOZEN available.... LOL I was laughing out loud. The sushi roll and sashimi was fresh as it should be. Let me start by saying most folks go to Shogun for the teppanyaki (entertaining chef cooking for you... they call it hibachi here at Shogun)... And I'm not sure the word has gotten out about barbecue tables (that's actually what hibachi is... Korean BBQ... butt that's my only snarky criticism). If you haven't tried the bbq tables, I HIGHLY recommend it! We started with a couple of signature drinks, priced at very reasonable $8. We also ordered a Monkey Roll that was excellent.... But onto the BBQ experience... Not only do you get to choose 2-3 proteins from a list that includes scallops, Wagyu beef, filet, NY strip, chicken, etc)... But for $35 for dinner for two, you share an appetizer, each get a salad and soup, as well as veggies, rice and three sauces. With some basic instructions, you're all set to use the grill in the middle of the table to create your own melange and oil/sauce as you wish. The quality of the proteins was exceptional (I had Wagyu and scallops). The experience was fun and the dessert (creme brulee) was a perfect ending, even though we were stuffed before it showed up. Service was well-timed and friendly, as well. All told, I think we have now found our new favorite E-town haunt! read more

I was recently in town for a few days with my mom. We love sushi, so we were so excited to see our hotel was right across the street from this place. After checking out their menu online, we decided to place an order. There were a lot of options not only for sushi, but many other Asian dishes as well. The online ordering was very easy to use, which is always appreciated. I was also happy to see that the prices were very reasonable. There is a pickup window at the restaurant so you don't have to use the front door and wait for the host. Our food was ready when we got there, and we took everything back to the hotel. We both got a variety of rolls, I REALLY loved the Bowling Green Roll, the Smokey jalapeño really added a nice kick without being too spicy. The only disappointing thing I can say is that there was hardly any cream cheese in my Philly Roll, but it was still delicious!!! My mom really loved her Geisha roll, as well as her other rolls. We had such a great experience that we ended up eating at Shogun two more times! One of those times we just got a hodgepodge of different appetizers so we could try more menu items. The Bang Bang Shrimp was delicious, as was the sashimi. The crispy pork belly had a great flavor, but was literally impossible to cut with plastic cutlery. Since I was in the privacy of my own room, I just picked that bad boy up and ate it like a caveman...no regrets. I can understand why Shogun was so busy each time we were there. The employees were so nice, and the food was consistently good. If I ever make it back to E-Town, I will be back! read more

Went to dinner at shogun last night and it was wonderful! The miso soup was excellent and my partners pork belly was so good those of us at the table ate most of it! For the main course my dining companions had sushi and said it was the freshest and most delicious they'd ever had! I had the shrimp and scallops and they were delicious! The mashed potato base was some of the best I've ever had. I will caution you. Because of Covid there is a long wait for a table during prime time dining hours and the timing of the dishes may be off. This is to be expected in the times we live in. We will be back! read more

Really was excited about trying this place but it was a letdown. It took a while to get anyone to offer us drinks and it was dead. The service was great after that but the food was so so. The salad was over dressed and couldn't be eaten, the miso soup was delicious, but the sushi was garbage. All rice noodle flavor and you couldn't taste the fish. "Spicy" was just sriracha and it wasn't evenly spread out. What a huge let down for etown dining, I hope the rest of the menu is better then the sushi. read more

I had some issues with online ordering. They do not take carry-out orders on the phone, just in person and online. Since online wasn't working, we did the in person order. They have a separate entrance for To-go orders. Once I got in, it was the side of the restaurant, there are a few tables and the Japanese BBQ area near by and the bathrooms down another hall way. Server Stan saw me standing and asked if I was picking up or making an order. Once I said I was here to make a to go order, he was about to pull out a menu, when I stopped him and told him what I wanted. Hibachi dinner for 2, steak and chicken one with mushrooms and a creme brûlée. Paid and Stan said would be 20 mins. Went back to my car and about 20 minutes later went back in to see if my food is ready. It wasn't but Stan was on it checking to see if it was ready. While I waited I saw that they had Japanese barbecue set up and Stan came back and told me that they do offer it and gave me a menu code to download to view the menu. Stan even told me I can walk around and take a look at the place. He told me where the hibachi was at and the bar area. After a few more minutes our food was out and ready to go. But I was just impressed by Stan's service and helpfulness. When we got home our food was still hot and delicious. I loved the flavors in the noodles and the chicken and steak was seasoned to perfection. The salad dressing was smooth and fresh and the soup was packaged well for travel. The only thing I wasn't too impressed was the creme brûlée. It was soggy and liquidy and didn't have a crust when I got to it. But still good. The food was just not what I expected of a Japanese styled restaurant. The flavors were off and quality was not worth the price. The pot sticker sauce had way to much vinegar, the sushi seemed link the rolled it the day before and the rice had a bad texture. I did also get a desert as I needed to hit my sweet tooth, but the creme brulee was scrambled and they fired the sugar in advance. The texture was soggy and should have been crunchy. Food was a little different for what I've had or expected in a Japanese style restaurant. It is the first time I've had noodles and potatoes in hibachi steak and shrimp but it was tasty. It was, however, the first time they nailed how I wanted the steak cooked. The Mizo soup left something to be desired unfortunately. I also ordered eel sushi and expected eel over the rice but got a roll style sushi. It was okay. I was tired so I may have just misread what the menu said. Quantity of the food was great. We decided to try Shogun tonight. We were not disappointed. We ordered the fried calamari with two dipping sauces and it's very good. The batter is crispy, the calamari is tender and the sauces are a traditional cocktail sauce and another sauce that is mildly spicy with a creamy base. I liked the creamier sauce best but both taste good. My husband and child had the ramen bowl and they both loved it! They ordered theirs with shrimp but you can get it with chicken or beef as well. That was a huge hit with a very picky kid! I had the lobster roll which was really good and a salad with their homemade ginger dressing. Their menu is rather extensive so their is a lot to choose from. They have a full bar as well and some signature drinks but we will try those next time. Fantastic meal! So much food! Last minute plans and it was perfect! I highly recommend especially if you have a big party.

My wife and I have tried a lot of different Japanese and I have to say this is by far the best one I have ever eaten this time we did the barbecue or Korean barbecue where you grill everything yourself ...the steak was tender the scallops and everything else was fresh and tasted delicious. we also had a sushi roll that was just wonderful it was way too much food for what we paid. If you are anywhere close it is well worth your time to come by and try any of the three different styles of cuisine they have. I do highly recommend the Korean barbecue a great way to do dinner with your spouse and have a little fun. and I would like to put a shout out to the wait staff and everybody who was here they did a great job everybody was wearing masks everybody was careful but everybody was very friendly and helpful and made us feel very very welcome. read more

Horrible. When we walked in and our shoes stuck to the floor, every step of the way, and the place smelled bad in the entryway, we should have left! The food was AWFUL! The miso soup smelled and tasted disgusting. After one spoonful I gave up on it. Maybe the water here is bad? Then the main course (2 bento boxes) was brought over by a different server who saw fit to include his FINGERS in the boxes - gross and inexcusable. There's just no reason for that. The orders were screwed up too, each bento box had the other's sushi roll. I tried a piece of the California roll and the consistency was bad and it was tasteless. Really disappointing.
