(She is a fan of the Yella sauce, too.) Pork ribs: maybe had been sitting over heat for a while as parts of the bottom or inner surface were charred but the meat was still very moist and tender. Brisket: not as smoky in flavor as one may be used to, but still good and most. Cole slaw: more tangy or vinegary but I liked it. Fries supposedly had a sweet seasoning but I couldn't really taste it and average; Texas toast could have had more butter but I liked it more than the fries. There are a lot of tables inside the restaurant, and it does get rather busy during the weekend. The servers were very friendly and attentive and quick to satisfy requests. Good place for socializing with family or friends. A tip if you get the brisket to go and will be transporting it for long period of time; the juices will accumulate at the bottom of the box as the brisket is probably sliced right before being put in the box. You may want to separate the beef juices from the brisket before reheating the brisket at a low temperature and use the juices to make an au jus or something else.

Absolutely phenomenal Kalua Pork done exactly as it should be. I have since tried several of their other menu items but the pork is far and above my very favorite. Whatever protein your palate desires they have something to please you. I was discussing the various menu options just Wednesday night with the only person in front of me in line and she expressed her strong desire for the Chicken Teriyaki Rice Bowl. I told her that I had been pleased with everything on the menu but she was going to stay strong and stick with her usual order. Once again, this is in Hodgenville, not a place known for adventuresome eating, and their food is so good that they already have a strong following in an area where Hawaiian cuisine is practically unknown. By the time the truck actually opened for service, there was a significant line of people waiting to order. It also makes me very happy that poke is on the horizon. I am very excited to try some actual authentic Hawaiian poke! This is a must try food truck and I would not be surprised if a brick and mortar place may soon be in the mix.

In all fairness to them, coming from the islands and making many of the same dishes they offer, "Mama's is hard to beat." Know that this is not a complaint or to say mine is better. Everyone has different tastes for what they are used to and what Papa Haoles offers may provide what an individual has preference. If you crave Hawaiian style "grinds" and either don't know how to make it or want the quick fix, this should be your go-to. Their rotation of locations each day is smart to extend their reach within Hardin County. What is nice is they rotate within the same day! This is the essence of a food truck, to be on the move and for you to be ready to go after where they may be. In the spirit of some popular trucks in bigger cities giving them #papahaoles will increase their recognition and following. They are also great at rotating their offerings and providing new items to prevent stagnation. It won't be a surprise if they eventually gain enough volume to demand a storefront in the near future. Their 4 star rating is primarily based on the variety of options, the unique faire that this area lacks and the taste of the islands this area desperately needed. If you're familiar with real Korean food, I definitely recommend this place. It seems like the buffet is available for lunch Monday through Saturday. The food honestly tasted like authentic homemade Korean food, not the overly sweetened Americanized version. I had a chance to talk with the owner, and they mentioned that even the kimchi is homemade instead of bought in bulk from places like Costco. You could really tell. Everything tasted traditional and comforting. Since it's near the military base, there were a lot of military customers, and I got the feeling many of them had spent time in Korea before. Popular dishes like bulgogi and spicy pork disappeared quickly, but the staff kept refilling them fast, so the buffet stayed fresh the whole time. The owner and staff were all very friendly and easy to talk to. They told me they became the new owners about five weeks ago and have been changing and improving many things. I really hope this place does well because authentic Korean food like this is not easy to find around here.

The server told me they make the meatloaf once a week and heat it up when ordered. The biscuit that came with the meatloaf was super hard and inedible. It appears they pour your soda from 2 liter bottles. Several guests complained their soda wasn't fresh. Mine definitely was flat and had no bubbles. With a few tweaks, this restaurant would be ok. Until then, I'm eating at Little Dave's down the road.
