What a hidden gem! The brewery is very cozy with friendly (and sarcastic) staff and a great variety of different styles of beer. The other side of the brewery is a home brew store where you can get all the supplies for home brewing and wine making. I thought it was really cool they sell full kits needed to make beer/wine/hot sauce/sourdough bread etc! I ended up buying a wine kit and ended up coming back to make it in the store with some guidance. It was super informative and affordable for the amount of wine you get with the class. This has got to be one of Greenville's best kept secrets! Sorry to all the other breweries, but this one wins hands down. It's a mom and pop place where the owners are nicer than you could ever want, and will walk you through ever step of brewing and question you have. They always have a nice selection of different beers on tap, and if you're like me and enjoy stouts, Dark Matter is possibly the best beer I've had in my life! Almost embarrassed as an amateur brewer to not have patronized G&G before. Super friendly staff learned my skill level and set me and my dad up with a great custom 2 gallon all-grain IPA kit. Sampled a few of their brews while we selected our recipe kit and in the end it's cheaper for supplies there than buying online plus you have a taproom and like minded beer lovers to talk to while you shop. I have been to several shops and find this one to be much better stocked than any I have seen. The owner was great to deal with. He offered us an excellent price on a complete beer making setup... We added a few optional extras and picked out the ingredients for a brew. They have hundreds of recipes to select from, and he was very helpful in selecting which one to try. Had a great little visit on Labor Day. The wife and I tried a dozen tasters, and every single one was excellent. Ken, the owner, was on hand to tell us anything we wanted to know. After we'd worked our way through a half-dozen, he asked what kinds of beers we normally like. We said that, among other things, we like "disturbingly sour goses," so he went in the back and mixed us up a special taster, and it was PRECISELY what we were talking about. THEN he explained the science behind it, what made it so very sour, and what to look for in the future. The man knows and loves his beers. We'll be back. read more

If you happen to be in the Greenville, SC area and HAVE NOT been here, you are really missing out! I was visiting from DC and had prepared for my trip by getting tons of Groupons and such for Greenville. This was one of them. The shop is in a nondescript shopping center. Not a whole lot going on there. Plenty of parking outside. The owners greeted us with warm smiles and invited us to have glasses of wine right away. We walked around the tasting room, noting all the varieties of wine they had. On of my pet peeves with wine tasting is when someone offers up some swill that tastes vaguely close to a rusty nail dipped in vinegar and they, rather pretentiously muse that it's so very complex and there are notes of wet wool and cigarette ashes and it goes perfectly with some unpronounceable cheese. Well, that didn't happen here. The wines we had were ALL very good. I don't really like sweeter wines, but I tasted them anyway. Pretty good. We learned how to make wine as well and really got involved in the entire process. I learned what makes a good wine and what makes a bad one. I'm thankful for what I learned in this wine-making class and it's definitely helped me pick out better wine. They also sell all sorts of wine and beer-making supplies. They have lots of tips and tricks you'll definitely want to listen to. The owners can also answer your questions about the processes. I am completely interested in making wine now all because of this place! I wished I lived closer, as this would definitely be a hangout for me. read more

Kenny and his wife Janel are very nice and knowledgeable people on the topic of homebrewing of beer and wine. The store has an awesome selection of equipment, grains, malts, yeasts and everything else you need to make an awesome batch of homebrewed beer or wine. Kenny took the time to work out a recipe with me on a set of software that he uses to break down recipes and give me a price quote on the supplies needed to make the said recipe. Also on the 3rd Thursday of the month they host a Pizza and Beer night where the store provides the Pizza and local brewers bring in their own brews to sample. They also have U-Vent and classes for making your own wine. I can say I am very happy Greenville has a brewing store again. read more

Shoeless Brewing Company is a small seating area connected to the Grapes and Grains store for home brewing. They have a few tables, a bar, a sectional couch, and a dart board. It is decorated in bottles, coasters, and signage from a variety of breweries from all over. A TV lists the 10 or so beers on tap. We tried the Just Chai Me (Pumpkin Ale) and the Quyet Ryet (IPA.) Both we very good!! The Just Chai Me was so smooth, and the chai blended with the pumpkin very well. The workers were very friendly and explained their brew process and flavor profiles of their beer and even offered samples of beers we had questions about. Two cute pups wandered about. I was getting back in to the brewing game after being out a while, so I was a little rusty on terminology and exactly what I needed for my all grain batch of coffee stout. The guy working here was awesome! He made plenty of recommendations. I asked about which grains provided coffee flavor but not burnt, which added chocolate, which gave color with no flavor, and he answered them all. After speaking with him, I realized just how rusty I was but he made the transition back into brewing seamless. Awesome store with great people. read more
