Five months ago, on a Saturday or Sunday, my boyfriend and I had lunch at The Baked Cafe. The burgers were good, the buns were mediocre, and the fries were outstanding. The meal was over $40, without drinks. The owner was the only person working. After reading other reviews, we expected a wait, but over a half hour was excessive. There are only two booths, and we were lucky to get one. Because of this, you may end up taking your food to go or eating outside. I left a honest review after our experience, and the owner responded (more like reacted) quite unprofessionally. He mentioned Wednesdays; we were not there on a Wednesday. He mentioned that if we prefer "nutty" (it's Nutty's) or "five guy" (it's Five Guys), that he "felt sorry" for us. Well, I won't feel sorry for him when his business fails.

I came for the food -- in my case a Reuben sandwich stuffed to the gills -- and coleslaw, though obviously most people choose fries in one of the available variants. Both the sauce on the sandwich and the slaw had a kick to them - a hint of heat that added to the whole. The food was promised for 15-minutes, but took less than 10 -- I like it when promises are kept or even exceeded. The pub had three distinct seating areas: outside in the courtyard, outside under a deck (sheltered, with transparent vinyl sheeting to block the wind, and inside. This is a place where you order and pay at the bar, then find yourself a seat. It's not fancy, it's not upscale, but it's solid with good food and brews. The service was friendly and competent, but young and a touch overly enthusiastic (I'm not fond of being repeatedly called "my man" - not so much because it's excessively familiar - which it is, but because the enthusiastic repetition of the phrase at every chance is a bit forced and formulaic).

Five stars and beyond! This was our first visit to Camano Island and the Cama Beach Cafe…read more My husband and I recently visited Camano Island where we were lucky enough to have breakfast at Cama Beach Cafe. My husband, Mike, had the biscuits and gravy to which he gave a HUGE thumbs up. He frequently orders this dish and is generally disappointed; saying it's more like paste. I have told him to stop ordering it, but at Cama Beach Cafe, Coree (our server), said the Cafe's version was amazing. She was right! The Biscuit & Gravy was created with wild mushroom & silvana meats savory sausage gravy, on top of the homemade, buttery biscuit add two eggs for $3 which is very popular! And it was. I ordered extra crisp bacon and eggs with a Cama Cafe-made biscuit. I'm very particular about my biscuits (raised in the south) and was also very pleased. Plus, the homemade berry jam was extraordnary!!! Also, I wanted to say that Coree was absolutely 5-star!She was smiling, laughing, and providied excellent recommendations about what to order. We could see things coming and going on other tables and it all looked yummy. We were in the PNW celebrating my 70th birthday. Coree was so sweet and gave us one a Cama Cafe cheddar-ham scones as a birthday gift - I love my savories! We enjoyed our view of the beach and water from the deck. be sure to look up at the inside dining area with all the big wooden beams of the restored historic building at Cama Beach Historical State Park, which originally began as a private fishing resort constructed in 1934. Wonderful to behold. So knocked out by the food, we forgot to take any photos!

The dressings are good - try the vinaigrette. The vibe is family friendly, somewhere between restaurant and performance space, with a stage in one corner where they host occasional live music, bingo and trivia nights. They have a full bar, with mostly mid-shelf offerings. There's a huckleberry cocktail that's a standout, for sure. I love that they almost always have a dark beer on nitro tap, like Old Rasputin or Guinness. Sooo good with pizza! Missing star for occasional cleanliness issues and some chairs and tables in need of repair. Once they get this dialed in, it should be great! If they get a pool table, they might never get rid of us...as it is, no bar games except one of those grabby claw beanie baby prize dispensers. It's a work in progress, I feel. But I dig it here.
