We tried this place because we had a sweet tooth and wanted a pastry after having cheeseburgers at a nearby restaurant. The customer service is great and I liked the laid back cafe ambiance. The cashiers were very friendly and sweet. We went a little later in the day so they didn't have very many pastries left in their case. We chose a cherry croissant and a maple cini-twist. The maple cini-twist was our favorite. It's like a cinnamon croissant twisted in a braid and drizzled with maple glaze. The cherry croissant was tart with a little bit of sweet. They made me a good sandwich according to my instructions, but they don't actually have any passion themselves. We were once again in Stanwood for haircuts and found ourselves hungry afterwards. My stylist suggested Mustard Seed, assuring it was good plus it was just across the street. Say no more! We walked across and inside. There were only a couple people there so it was nice and quiet and we didn't feel rushed while looking at the menu. The inside was very clean and felt comfy in a way. We decided on sandwiches to-go, filled out the forms, gave them to the woman at the counter, and sat down while we waited. No more than 10 minutes later she came out with our food and it smelled great. We got in the car and headed to a nearby park to eat. Both of our sandwiches tasted great. We love love LOVE that they have sprouts on the menu. The only issue was our bread was so dry, it was crumbling everywhere and breaking apart while we were eating. We placed an order for assorted pastries and told the industry of sever nut allergies and requested the orders to be separated in different boxes. Order was not ready at the pickup time, nut requests was not followed and further the business personnel denied there was ever a request to separate nuts. They stated it was the fault of the customer and would not honor repayment or remaking of pastries. read more

Ok this place is so darn cute!!! Came in because there weren't many reviews and that piqued my curiosity. First impression was that there is the cutest seating in and out and it's in the cutest part of town as well. There wasn't music playing which was a little weird, but there were a couple of toddlers in the cafe so maybe they requested no music? Service was nice and pretty speedy. Prices were good. Food was good, cinnamon roll was yuuuuum coffee was pretty good. They don't have much choices though (I.e. food and drink orders) but I think this place is a great option if you wanted to sit and chat with someone. Have been here a handful of times now, namely for their 89er breakfast bagel. It is so incredibly good. I love that the bagels are made on site and all of the ingredients are incredibly fresh. Perfect ratio of bun to egg, onion, bacon, and cheese. I always ask for extra house sauce, which feels to me like a garlic-chipotle-aioli of sorts. You couldn't possibly be anything but happy after eating this breakfast sandwich. I don't drink coffee so I can't speak to their drinks, but I have had some of their pastries. Some I have loved like their muffin and scones, while a select few have left more to be desired like their croissants, which aren't nearly as flakey or buttery as I'm used to - but I think that kind of variation is to be expected with small mom and pop shops and is in no means a reason not to keep coming back here. The people running the place are incredibly kind and you can tell they enjoy what they do. Highly recommend this cute little shop, I would choose it over the generic Starbucks experience any day! read more

What a great little coffee shop/bakery! Went on a brunch date with my girlfriend and kids. Great atmosphere, clean and friendly staff. I ordered a Frenchie and a mimosas flight. Frenchie was so delicious! I'd order again for sure. Kids ordered cinnamon rolls and lotus flights, they gave it a 5/5 and can't wait to go back. No recent reviews. Let's fix that. First off I know of Mustard Seed because Mrs Billy D goes there often. I have had cookies and a pastry or two from there in the past and they were good. This time I went in to see a special girl who just got a job there. It's not cluttered inside and the place is clean and well lit with natural light. It's comfortable in there judging from two people I noticed with their full array of electronics set up and spread out. There is indoor seating and some outdoor tables. The business is right next to a bar/tavern so parking near can be tight. You can build your own sandwich, they have a plethora of salads and breakfast items but if you follow me at all you know I don't eat breakfast food. I find it reprehensible in every way. There is a slip you fill out for the sandwich maker. Of course the service was prompt and efficient. The girl running the counter even bought my sandwich! I'd like to think it was because I'm so good looking but I think it had more to do with her being my daughter . She did not make my sandwich so I can be objective about that. I ordered Turkey and Swiss on sourdough. It had lettuce, tomato, and red onion with mayonnaise. When it came out my first impression was the bread was not made there. No big deal but it was crumbly and almost couldn't contain the middle. Also they might have walked the bread past the jar of mayonnaise but little made it's way in. Later the Mrs said I need to try the hoagie roll so next time I will do just that. They have a full service coffee/ espresso concession and also just about any drink you can think of made by an excellent barista. You guessed it. My kid. All in all the sandwich was decent. I felt they could have included a pickle spear but no big deal. The price on most sandwiches is just under $10 but there is nowhere you will get a fresh hand made sandwich for less. The customer service was great! Very friendly and super helpful! They have a little sheet of paper that you have to fill out to tell them how you want your sandwich built. That was a little confusing but the gal behind the counter was so sweet and helpful with all that. It's cute in there! The coffee was great! I ordered an iced Americano with almond milk, pumpkin sauce and sf vanilla. Super tasty! They also have beer in there too which I thought was strange but to each their own. Every time I go in here there are barely any pastries/cookies despite it being a bakery. When I do happen to grab the last scone or cookie and it's always dry and seems like a leftover just to fill the case. I always leave underwhelmed noting that I'll probably never come back, but I keep hoping it'll be better next time. If you just want a place to sit and get a coffee with a friend- it works. Just not a place I would ever seek out. Also, none of their gift cards work from Hometown Brew and won't be honored. I went in before the change over but their system was in transition and wouldn't take the gift cards and I was told to come back later and try it. When I did come back after the transition they definitely didn't work anymore and the owner won't honor them at all, no apology or anything. Wish this place was better read more

First time visit. Drove by for a few months now... Had a bakery item which was good along with a couple of coffee drinks. I ordered a turkey sandwich from the paper order sheet, came quickly as ordered. Note for the future: We were sitting in restaurant, sandwich was brought to me wrapped, in a bag. At least you could have put a couple napkins in the bag since I'm eating here, but wasn't asked. Our pastry was given to us in a cardboard tray, in a bag. Couldn't my sandwich come that way? I love eating on paper, on a bag. When lettuce is put on a sandwich, drying the lettuce is a must so water doesn't make the bottom bread soggy and it also makes the top of sandwich slip off the rest of the ingredients. Total was ~$24 for 2 coffees, croissant and sandwich. Also, $8.75 for a smallish sandwich, maybe a pickle spear? Bag of chips? Carrot sticks, something? My first visit I didn't realize they only have pre-made sandwiches & I ordered a BF bacon/cheese/egg. It looked wonderful until I lifted the top off & found the bacon to be mostly uncooked! The girls were very gracious about returning it & I had a BF wrap. It was ok but as usual with pre=made food it lacked any zest & was dry. They make 'real' sandwiches on Fridays so met my friend yesterday for lunch. The sandwich 'of the day' was the New York...thin sliced salami, lettuce, roasted tomatoes on an everything bagel. My friend asked them to take the lettuce off & heat it which they were happy to do. Both of us needed to get a side of mayonnaise & mustard (normal yellow). I'm not a fan of bagel sandwiches but the bagel was very fresh & soft. When you have a great sandwich it's usually because of the dressing...aioli, zesty jam, etc....that's what brings you back. They have a great dessert selection & serve Cafe D'or, which is one of my favorite roasters. They close @ 3 so be sure you take that into consideration if you visit. read more
