Four stars for food, two for service... we've shied away from this place before, as we were looking for a more extensive menu. But, on this occasion, as it was a little late, it was this or Taco Bell. The staff was already cleaning the main dining room, so we were directed upstairs. No problem. We were promptly seated, although the table hadn't been turned yet. We were offered some waters right away, but had an unusual wait to order drinks. The server returned a few minutes later, asking us for our drink orders again. The same happened with our dinner selections, and subsequent refills. Let's get to the positive... the crab, artichoke,spinach dip was pretty good. It was served with the flakiness tortilla chips I've ever had. Pretty tasty. The chef salad was of a modest size, and good quality. The Cuban sandwich was not of the typical style. It actually had pork roll, and what appeared to be sliced turkey. Whatever, it tasted pretty damn good. Pricing was average, so no shock there. read more

We had to drive 7 hours from the coast to find such amazing, fresh food! It was better than anything we have had in our hometown. We couldn't believe how good the food was in such a small town like Murphy's, especially Shoe Booties. I had the pecan crusted trout which was local and it was to die for. My husband loved their bleu cheese steak medallions. The bread was warm and fresh, the chocolate creme brulee was heaven. Everything was perfect. We drove from a day trip in Chattanooga (2 hours) to make sure we had a last meal at Shoe Booties, it was THAT good. The people are super friendly as well. Couldn't ask for better. read more

I can't give more than 3 stars. They sat is at a table with a party of 4, wait staff and other customers kept bumping our chairs. Kudos to our waiter who realized our discomfort and move us to a booth after taking our order. Food was just ok, nothing bad to say, and nothing stellar about our dinner either. We had the best experience with our family at ShoeBooties. When we walked through the door, the hostess told us they were only seating I'm the Lounge upatairs. This was at 4:30pm so we had no problem with bring our two young boys up their since it was an early dinner. The waiter was wonderful and great with our boys. He even put the movie Cars on the television for the boys to watch. The food was great as well and I would recommend it. Met our friends for dinner this evening. We chose the upstairs tiny bar area to dine. I cannot really criticize the food that much although the requested rare salmon came out well done. The bungled the appetizers and did not bring them all at once. We had to remind them for plates fir the bread we had requested.The bar service was extremely slow in coming, they ran out of clean glasses, my 2nd vodka was the size of a large shot glass. Over-all food was okay but the overall experience killed by the service. read more

We were taken here by some friends who have a weekend retreat nearby. It was a nice Saturday afternoon in the spring and the place was hopping. I had their special which was a chili Mac dish and it was fantastic. The girls had a soup and salad which they really enjoyed. We shared a dessert that was phenomenal. In a locality with limited fine dining this outlet provides an alternative worth trying. Menu offers many traditional choices, but the topper for us on aSaturday night was the live music, a rarity in places with much more expensive tickets. Recommend reservations as seating area is smallish. And parking is on the street. The wine list isn't extensive, but the choices were varied and quite satisfactory, especially to the unsophisticated palate. We didn't try any dessert, but service from Krista was sweet enough for us. Be sure to ask how they got their name. read more

We came here with some friends who told us this was a great restaurant...Boy was that a lie! When we walked in we saw who looked like the manage and were expecting great service since there weren't many people in the restaurant. We sat down and it only took a few minutes for our drinks to come and our orders were taken. This gave us great hopes but they were quickly shattered. Our drinks took a while to get filled and it was not a peaceful dinner. We were constantly hearing yelling from the kitchen including some profanity. When the lady who seated us, NOT OUR SERVER, finally came and refilled our drinks and we asked about soup and salads that had not yet come. She told us "sorry she got caught up on something" then miraculously it just so happened to come out right then. We asked for the manager since we had already been there 45 minutes. A few minutes later the lady comes out saying the manager is busy and will come in a few minutes. I will make it clear that this lady was not our waiter but was taking care of us. She was very sweet and was constantly apologizing. Another lady finally comes and says "Our manager is busy but I manager on Sundays. I apologize and we will compensate your meal" mind you we came on a Friday night and all the waiters/waitresses appeared to be very young. We say again that we had not gotten our food and just a few seconds later again it miraculously came out right then. This caused suspicion. It had been over an hour now since we were seated and finally we had our food. It wasn't good. The steak was over cooked and all five of us said our food was cold and tasted like it had been sitting under a warmer for some time. I would like to say that we had only had seen out actual waiter twice. When the lady who seated us came back we asked about our to go soup which had not come. She told us she was pretty sure they were out of it but would get us a free dessert. When our waiter finally comes out and gives us the check the waiter says our total and it was not compensated. We asked and the waiter said "you didn't complain until after an hour had passed so we can not compensate or give a discount. Only the manager can do that." We had never even gotten to talk to the manager and the lady who came out claiming to be a manager said it would be compensated! When we said this we found that the friendly ghost was not so friendly. The waiter actually started to argue! So we paid the check and left with our free dessert that we only got because of the lady who seated us and it was just in place of the soup. It was NOT the good place we were told about. I've seen many other reviews saying these same things. I think that's a sign that this place isn't the best. THIS WAS AWFUL! read more

What a wonderful delight in a small town of Murphy, North Carolina. We went in for a light dinner wound up playing trivia with the whole restaurant. One of us had almond crusted pork chops with a double order of green beans for my side instead of carbs. Chops were moist and juicy. Also had shrimp in a cream sauce over pasta which the shrimp were very tender large and flavorful. Fun atmosphere great hostesses wonderful servers. Tried to get seated as a party of one. They kept telling me that the table will be ready soon. In the mean time several parties of 2-4 were seated. Then they seated a party of 1 instead of me after I had waited patiently for about an hour. At that point I just walked out and went some place else that wanted my money. My wife left a yelp review back when this happened (August 31, 2017) but apparently it has been deleted as I do not see it. What is a shame is that we have been to this restaurant many times over the years. At this point in time I do not plan to go back. read more

Very nice little place, food was good, atmosphere is nice and clean. We start with the brochette which was very good, with a nice presentation. I tried the black bean and ham soup, with a cheese burger(grilled) w/ swiss and bacon. The burger was cooked perfect, the only thing I would have preferred would have been a fresher bun, maybe a kaiser roll or butter toasted chatabatta roll. I highly recommend this local gem. The service was excellent and the food was delightful. I started with a beef and barley soup. The soup has a thicker base than I was prepared for and a tang that caught me off guard, but I finished it so it wasn't bad. The parmesan crusted pork chop was well prepared and meaty. We also had the Thursday special, which is Snow Crabs. The meat still retained its saltiness and the sweetness I'd expect from snow. The flavor of the meat was rich and made the use of butter unnecessary, they should dump the practice of drawn butter. The outside does not scream "children welcome", in fact it looks like a lounge, so we were surprised to find a pleasant eating experience inside. read more

We love to eat at as many local restaurants when we travel as possible. Using Yelp makes it so much better. This restaurant was fabulous. I had the Philly steak hoagie and it was wonderful. This is one of my favorite lunch places. I love the eclectic decor with all of the art nuveau mirrors. The salads are great. There are quite a bit of fine choices on the menu. Worth making it a nice little lunch date place or lunch out with the gals. We will be back. read more

We've been to Shoebooties for dinner and lunch a number of times since we moved to Murphy in January and have never been disappointed ( well, except for St Patrick's Day, the corned beef and cabbage wouldn't win any prizes) but that said, we've tried many of the appetizers and entrees and were very happy with them all. I have a particular love of the langastino po'boy sandwich and was disappointed when I found it was no longer on the menu. It was outstanding. Service is good and atmosphere is fine. read more

We have property in nearby Topton, NC and enjoy driving over to Murphy from time-to-time. We usually end up here for a late lunch. They have great, well-priced lunch specials under $10. I usually get the grilled veggie sandwich option. They have a baked pasta dish that my husband enjoys and they have enough options to make any family happy. They have space in the back for larger parties, which is nice. We enjoy the first floor booth seating. They close for lunch at 3 pm, but you can go upstairs to their bar area to order food and drinks. The servers always seem flustered, but that's what comes with working in a busy restaurant. I usually struggle more with finding veg options, especially in small towns, but ShoeBooties provided lots of options! It's in a great older building in the downtown area and has very friendly staff! We started with the vegetarian spring rolls, which were very good! For dinner, I had the veggie burger and fries which was great (they offer lots of options for your entree sides). Hubby had the build your own pasta (which is another great option for veg-heads) where you pick your noodles, sauce, veggies, etc. This place also offers a lot of bang for your buck because with dinner you not only pick a side, but you get a side salad and a basket of bread to start. Awesome!! Cheerful, friendly staff helped make this place great. The daily lunch specials make it easy to order. I had the Milano Sandwich (fried eggplant, provolone cheese, roast red peppers, pesto mayo on asiago cheese bread) with orzo pasta salad (just the way I like it with dill) and homemade chips.
