The price was very fair, especially considering the store is on the airport where most stores charge a premium based on the convenience factor and the fact travelers don't have many shopping options. While I was there, I noticed that they offer many services that go beyond just repairing shoes. They can repair all leather goods (bags, backpacks, suitcases, boots, and shoes of course). Need laces? They've got 'em. They've even got locations in the various concourses so there's probably one conveniently near you. Shoe shine service available also.

Al's has been in Mount Prospect for years, but recently moved to a new location, the Mt, Prospect Train Station. I dropped off a pair of boots in need of new heels a week ago. When I walked in there were 4 other customers and Larry had us introduce ourselves to one another and after 30 minutes we all were chatting as if we were lifelong friends. Larry is Al's son and they have been in business for decades. There was a wonderful article in the Daily Herald on Feb. 14, 2022 about Larry and the business. I was glad to see he received well deserved recognition for his skill and craft. When I went to pick up by boots, I had my husband come with me, since he is a history buff and has never been in the store. Larry welcomed us and willingly told us the history of his business and pointed out many of the items in the store that are true antiques. Larry is an accomplished flutist, so it is not a surprise if he plays or sings for you, just an added bonus. There are not many shoe repair options, so the price may be higher than what I remember years ago, but the work is very high quality. Visiting the store is taking a step back into time and a truly wonderful and heartwarming experience.

I've been here quite a few times and these guys are awesome!…read more Most recently, I had my shoes "shined" at another place, and the person there was pretty terrible...I ended up with shoes a different color, neither cleaned nor shined, and dealt with a terrible attitude. What was I to do? Enter Dominic of The Shoe Hospital! I explained what happened to him, and he understood. He took the extra time to thoroughly clean my shoes and get the wrong color out of all the grooves. He did a phenomenal job restoring them to practically new! Dominic--thanks for saving the day!

He looked and said ten bucks. A week later I picked up my shoes. Now I dunno what the last poster went thru...I like to think everone or any place can have a bad day... but when I saw the owner (short Italian guy that reminded you of the typical Italian cobblers in movies, accent and all) I felt oddly comfortable (probably since my dad was from old school Greece) He looked at my shoe and assessed the labor. Looking around at the store he had other shoes (I bought a pair as I tend to bend down and do alot of stuff with computers so I put my shoes thru alot) Picked up a pair that IO am going to start using and see if I like them. I went in there thinking i was going to spend 20 on shoes and left spending 60 on shoes and some cleaning supplies for leather shoes. And as I left there was a lady customer coming in asking about her boots and he had promptly brought them up as if he knew she was coming. The one pic I took cause I didnt want to spook the guy. A little over a week went by when I received a phone call telling me that to replace the heels on my boots (By the way they were half inch boot heels) it would cost me $60, no joke! I told the owner that was half the price of the shoes and he proceeded to tell me that if I wanted them repaired it will also take over two weeks because he has such a back up from being away. why I ask you did you even open the door? Anyway, long story short, I picked up my boots without him repairing and brought them to a local guy in Norridge who only charged me $15 to replace and clean them. Stay away this guy is a rip off!!!

The previous owners had dogs, cats, and a penchant for leaving food, old shoes, and other trash behind and under the appliances. After living here for about a month, doing SO much cleaning, and still feeling like we were in an allergen pit, we opted for duct cleaning. Karl was friendly and communicative with a competitive price. Christian and Zeke came to the house early. They treated the home with respect, wearing shoe covers and cleaning up diligently, despite it being a dirty job. They had different methods for different vent styles, and helped with a few above and beyond tasks, like re-shaping a bent duct. Christian and Zeke suggested that the ducts of my home had never been cleaned, ever, based on the quantity and type of stuff they were finding. It seemed like a pretty intense job, but they were in good spirits the whole time. My dog was nervous about all the noisy tools- shop-vacs, leaf blowers, etc.- but the guys were so sweet to her, she wanted them to stay. I'm not kidding, the air quality is IMMEDIATELY better in this house, and the smell is wildly improved- maybe even gone. No, this is probably not a service you regularly need, but if your house is pushing 100 years old and reeks, treat yourself to a visit from Ugly Ductling.

Came out to clean the dryer vent and after the dryer didn't seem to be working better, came back…read moreout to check on it and removed the bird's nest in the vent. Now the dryer is like brand new! They went above and beyond!
