She introduced me to several interesting artists over a a number of months, but the one that clicked was a Los Angeles painter named Aaron Maier-Carretero. He had a show at Luis de Jesus in the Arts District, a solo exhibition called "a hundred peonies," and I went and saw it a couple times before taking one of the paintings home. The gallery is in a part of the Arts District with low foot traffic and not the best parking, but it's pretty nice inside, spacious and well appointed. I've seen a handful of their artists' work across a few visits (including when I went to pick up my purchase), and they seem to represent some excellent talent. I really liked the Evita Tezeno show that was on at the same time as Aaron Maier-Carretero's. The space is quiet and open, a peaceful environment for taking in some art, at least when you just kind of wander in off the street. I imagine it's more of a thing when they have openings and events. I missed the artist talk for "a hundred peonies" because I had to take those children I made to Disneyland. Everyone I've talked to at Luis de Jesus has been great, hands off when I've just wanted to look around and super friendly and helpful when I've needed anything. The purchase process was straightforward, and I got an email after the show ended, saying I could come pick up. I ended up delaying the pick-up because I was out of town, and then busy through the holidays, and no one got on my case about this. I also genuinely enjoy being on the gallery's mailing list, which is more than I can say about 95% of the emails I get with an unsubscribe option. I was excited to bring the painting home, and was a little surprised to open it up and find it wasn't ready to hang. I didn't want it framed, but I figured there'd be a wire, as it must've had one for the show. Anyway, I love the painting and look forward to putting it up whenever I get my shit together. I'm glad I found my way to Luis de Jesus and expect to go back and see more unique work from their impressive roster of artists.

A painter friend invited us to his opening so we were happy to check out his shoe and another art gallery in town. We stopped by the reception area to inquire about it and felt looked down, we were talked down and didn't feel welcomed. The place is big and had various rooms where different artists had openings so you can imagine why we needed some guidance. There were no signs with artists names, bio-s, etc. There was no formal opening reception, no introductions, no drinks, water, anything. We stumbled over openings at various exhibits in Chinatown where we were invited in, offered drinks and food. It was nice to see our friend and check out his show. Restrooms could be cleaner. Staff could be nicer and less snooty. Area isn't the best. Nice gallery, with several rooms. Closed on Mondays and Sundays! Free to visit. I'm not sure I will stop by again!

If you're in Chinatown visiting the historic landmarks, trying the culinary scene and shopping, add Eastern Projects to your list.

I have passed by this place numerous times while strolling down Chinatown. I have tried so many times to come in but it's always closed. One time I even waited over an hour because I wasn't sure if the advertised hours is 12 or 1. Someone had pulled off the #2 sticker by the door but no one opened its doors. Until one day, I finally made it and saw the exhibit "All Lit Up". It featured four of the top 5 neon artists to follow in Instagram selected by Los Angeles Magazine. It was a pretty nice exhibit showcasing the different styles of these artists using the same medium. Having neon lights as the subject of this exhibit, it would have been better if they seen at night but unfortunately, they close at 6pm. Or they could have put thick curtains or blinds to block off sunlight. Nevertheless, it was great to see their masterpieces. The gallery is spacious but it feels very warm inside as what other reviewers mentioned. My visit was on 8/24/18, a truly hot summer day. There was no AC so they had a fan running by the door which didn't help with the ventilation at all. However, I'm still looking forward to see any future exhibitions.

There were some of the most iconic images taken of rock and roll stars both on stage and in more relaxed settings. Can you imagine owning one of the original photographs of, for example, the first Crosby, Stills & Nash album? You can find that at the Morris Hotel Gallery. Was Jimi Hendrix your jam? You'll find images of Jimi too. I was raised on rock and roll. Seeing the photographs at Morrison Hotel Gallery took me back to so many wonderful times in my life. It is absolutely worth the trip to the gallery. Whether you're a buyer or not you are sure to leave the experience with a smile on your face. Full of rich history!…read more Oh my goodness. The Disney Gallery is everything. The entire back story of Walt and the areas/ lands in Disney. It was super cool to see, read, and learn about! One of the rooms has an artist doing sketches right there. So you can watch the magic happen! How cool is that?! I loved seeing the art throughout and the sketching room. The Disney Gallery is awesome! It is located at Main Street USA, at Disneyland Park. If you have the time, and want to learn about the backstory- this is a must see!!

Casa De La Cultura is located within a plaza and the night I went there, there was so much life. Aside from a bunch of people socializing outside the gallery there were kids playing and men dressed in mariachi costumes all over the plaza. I get it why they call it Mariachi Plaza. The gallery itself is a good size, medium. There was a lot of people at the opening so it was very warm inside. They had a DJ booth, playing good music and there were also some B-girls dressed as Sand Chikz. Sand One's art was amazing and so inspiring! There is residential parking around the plaza and I am not too sure if there is a parking lot. The 101 freeway is near by or you can take 1st street all the way and you'll hit Mariachi Plaza. Overall, this gallery wasn't too bad. I definitely have to check this place out during its normal hours. There are restaurants and other stores next to the gallery also, which is a plus!
