Small enough to stay cozy; large enough to not be bored. I originally heard of this place from a pamphlet at the El Segundo Public Library. I found out they were holding a free exhibit on the 'Wizard of Oz,' and as an all-time favorite movie of mine; I had to check this out. This museum is run entirely on donations; meaning no admittance fee. They also are very generous with the amount of free materials such as brochures & postcards you can take; so please spread the word! The exhibit I went to was extremely organized; with two kiosks conveniently placed to explain in detail what each item on display was. You could also get so close to each exhibit that you could practically touch it; (Please don't!) & experience the magic of a lost era for yourself. Staff was also extremely friendly & informative, answering a myriad of questions without the slightest hesitation. This is another one of El Segundo's hidden gems & I will be back here in the near future, for sure!

Went to the gallery to see the workshop on "Awkward Photos". Well some of the funniest & most odd photos, you've ever seen. Well to be honest I had seem maybe 10 or 12 prior to this showing, yet fun just the same. Great showcase. The ESMofA, is a terrific local venue, one I'd highly recommend to anyone. A solid 5 Stars.

Yesterday's opening of this new art museum/art lab was well-publicized on TV news & in local papers. So their grand opening was grand, indeed.....the place was packed. There were balloons and giveaways and speakers and activities for kids. The birth of this museum was the result of an interesting chain of events. The story goes like this: A local couple, the Sweeney's of Manhattan Beach, were looking for a place to store the overflow of their extensive art collection.....which led them to El Segundo, where there are warehouses. Evidently the city suggested that the chosen space (right in the heart of town) could be a museum gallery instead, where the public could see the art. After a few years of hard work, so it is. And a beautiful space it is - modern architecture with high ceilings. A local art teacher, one of yesterday's guides, told me that the space includes an apartment where visiting artists can reside while they create installations to be displayed in the surrounding area. Additionally, the art shown in the gallery will rotate every few months. I was told that El Segundo school students will serve as guides (a great idea). Possibilites seem limitless for this somewhat experimental undertaking. One thing for sure: if the large crowd at the opening was any indication, the town certainly is hungry for an upscale art experience. Even grade-school-age kids were eagerly engaged in their activities. I loved it. The first exhibition was all about nature. New paintings, old paintings, everything mixed together, sculptures on the floor, artists whose names were instantly recognized (like Christo & Pissarro), excited viewers. I could have taken more photos except that it was hard to line up a shot due to all the people blocking my views. I loved this, too. I left the exhibition with a smile on my face & hope for the future of.....everything. Art tends to do this to people. To everyone involved in this adventure called ESMoA: well done. You're off to a rousing start, can't wait to see how it evolves. Current museum hours: Friday to Sunday 10am to 5pm. Monday thru Thursday: special events & by appointment. Admission: FREEEEE!

Charming chair groupings in gallery create charm and a whimseyness in an overall modern setting. Love!

Yesterday my husband I and I traveled from San Diego to Los Angeles to take our daughter and son in law to LAX. Due to the gridlock freeway southbound home, we decided to venture into unfamiliar territory and find a good place for some respite before heading home. On a walk after having delicious food and drink in this charming town, we came upon this amazing art gallery. For starters the exterior walls of ESMoA are eye catching and unique. A reflective silver line travels across the white textured walls. In a neighborhood full of weathered red brick walls and charm, this abstract simplicity caught my attention, curious to see more. As we came to the glass front entrance there was a gathering of people inside. There was food, drink and many smiling faces. Between the crowd and window there was a sign that had numerous words but mostly, my eyes focused on the word "Free" and that was enough for me to open the door and proceed into the gallery. Leaving my husband happily outside to wait, I walked past the crowd and entered into a huge room of bright lights, high ceiling and engaging art works...and I was all alone. Paradise! I was mesmerized by the quality of work and the well designed clean beauty of the space. The art works didn't have written information about them on the walls but only stenciled numbers on the ground below them. Intriguing. Not having information about what I was looking at, and instead focusing on each piece's unique quality was delightfully mysterious. As I was in my own little world a very nice man appeared. His name was Brian and after introducing himself to me, shared with me how the group of people, (that I walked past) were an invited group of kindergarten parents. Oh no, how embarrassing I thought to myself, and replied, "Oh gosh...I apologize...should I go?" Not only did he assure me that I was welcomed to stay but he showed me on my smartphone how to bring up the artwork information on the ESMoA website. I don't know how/if Brian was associated with the gallery but what a nice guy. Since being home I've gotten onto the website, reading more about the art and the gallery. Now I know I was in the midst of works by very notable artists past and present. Wow...what a very cool place, I wish I lived closer! This gallery has many more interesting art and events on the calendar as well. From now on, I will be the first to volunteer driving friends and family to LAX so I can return to this gem of a place to wallow in it's awesomeness.

I came here for a field trip with my son's school. They are really great with the kids. It's a small museum but the way their curate their exhibits is awesome. It's always changing too. I was impressed at the staff's ability to keep the kids from running around, touching everything. I would definitely get on their mailing list so you can stay in touch on what they are doing. This is a great space / museum to have in our little town!

Huge space with high ceilings showing an exhibit for Nobel Prize winners. Cool concept, very kind & educated guides who work there. Wish there was more to do in this beautiful space! Free entrance, non profit. Plenty of street parking. Very hip place amongst a street full of donut shops, taco stops and chiropractors.

    Deep thoughts.

The space has two floors -- one floor is strictly jumping castles, and the other floor has mini rides and mini golf. The issue is that the rides and mini golf cost additional money on top of the admission price ($2 per ride). It's about $30 for a child and $10 for an adult just to get in, so having to pay extra for most of the activities felt excessive. There was also only one employee working the entire floor with the rides and mini golf, which made things feel understaffed and unorganized. Cleanliness was another big concern. There were crumbs and dirt all over the floors, and the men's restroom changing station was very dirty -- the baby changing platform was especially unpleasant. Overall, this place did not feel like a good value for the price. I wouldn't recommend it, especially considering the additional costs and lack of cleanliness.

The last event happened in August 16th, 2025 (August + on the third Saturday) and I visited the Honda headquarters in Torrance to check it out. [Parking]: For the Cars, Bikes & Coffee event, enter the campus via Main Street off Harpers Way at the north end of the facility. During weekdays, parking is in the visitor parking lot off Torrance Blvd at the south end of the facility. [Time]: 9 AM to 12 PM for The Cars, Bikes & Coffee event. The Hall is not open on other weekends but is on weekdays during regular work hours (8 AM to 6 PM). A side note - this museum used to be closed to public but officially opened to the public on September 12, 2023. [What to see during The Cars, Bikes & Coffee event]: * Visitors get to check out the American Honda Collection Hall and see all makes, models, and eras of vehicles and motorcycles. The hall is only one-level, but visitors will also find Power of Dreams Store (aka Honda souvenir shop) and Power of Dream cafe (sponsored by Starbucks). * In addition, visitors can also enjoy free joy rides as passengers for select Honda old school sports cars (must sign a waiver) and I got to ride 2006 Honda S2000. * Free Starbucks drip coffee at the entrance, but they ran out at 10:30 AM. * Additional outdoor tents and two food trucks just outside of the American Honda Collection Hall with free gifts like Honda pins and even posters. Many Honda enthusiasts parked their cars at the parking lot to showcase their love for Honda vehicles. [Conclusion]: This is pretty much a festival and meetup for Honda fans. To maximize the experience, I highly recommend to visit the hall during the The Cars, Bikes & Coffee event.

I cannot say enough wonderful things about our experience here at Rubel Castle. Our host, guide,…read moreand local "Rubelligent" volunteer, Ms. Kathleen had all the intel about this historical property. She was so knowledgeable and helped set the stage for us to slip into a forgotten era and get a glimpse of how imagination met inventiveness with a DIY charm. ~ A LITTLE BACKSTORY FOR YOU ~ It's not pronounced Rubel as Barney from Flintstones. Rather, it's like Target is to Targét when we are trying to be fancy. So that's Rubel as in "Roo-bell." Unlike modern-day construction, Rubel Castle wasn't built overnight. It was made of collected recyclables and construction rubble that spanned many decades and took several friends and volunteers to build it. For Michael, however, the lifetime inspiration was first sparked at the age of 9. His love for canons was where it started and the rest is history you can hear about on the tour. But don't just show up like we did randomly one day. To book, visit RubelTours.org and make a reservation. ~ OUR TOUR EXPERIENCE ~ It's as if Michael Rubel, the creator and mastermind of this enchanted dominion had intended it to be--magical. Built in the castle period of wood and tin, every corner captured our interests, from antique cars to the 1890's Seth Thomas Tower Clock with a unique backstory (and only six in existence today). There were old vending machines, tools, trinkets, and machinery that time had long forgotten. Did I mention there was a drawbridge? Yes, and a dungeon too. I was just waiting for a dragon to come swoop down on us next. Walk in the footsteps of famous visitors like Alfred Hitchcock, Dwight Eisenhower, Jack Benny, and Bob Hope. It's a feast for the eyes no matter where you glance. I particularly enjoyed the bottle house that Michael built in 1968 as his "home" as a kid. That independent spirit was quite charming to see. ~ WATERCOLOR NATURESCAPE ~ We were fortunate to have our gracious host lead us on a tour and organize a special art crafting experience outdoors. It was absolutely lovely beneath the trees and between rusted vintage cars from the turn of the century. We each got a small canvas to paint our flowers in watercolor. (This particular experience takes place in the Spring and Fall, weather permitting.) We heard the squirrels rattling in the leaves and birds chirped and sang in the trees above. We discovered that peacocks apparently originated from this property, compliments of Michael Rubel. And did I mention that on the far side of the property, a custom garden was in full bloom? Thanks to the sheer persistence (and probably delightful stubbornness) of Michael Rubel, we now have this quirky, towering State Treasure sitting right in the middle of Glendora like a fairy tale that accidentally took a detour through a hardware store. This place is beautifully done, and part of its charm is that it's a full-on hodgepodge of relics, antiques, crystal trinkets, and "wait... what is that doing here?" moments tucked into every nook and cranny. You'll marvel, you'll laugh, you'll squint in confusion--honestly, it's everything you'd want in a castle built with love, imagination, and a dash of madness. And let's talk about the makeshift cemetery. Quirky? YES. Fun? Absolutely. Slightly spooky? Only if your imagination is over-caffeinated. But it fits the vibe perfectly--like the castle whispered, "You know what I'm missing? A tiny cemetery." The tours are fantastic, the guides are passionate, and the whole experience feels like you're stepping into a living scrapbook of California history and charming chaos. Overall: Amazing, amazing place. Book your tour. They only do tours every first Sunday of the month, so set your alarms, mark your calendars, tie a string around your finger--just don't miss it. Rubel Castle is truly a California State Treasure, and an absolute must-see for anyone who appreciates creativity, history, and a little eccentric sparkle.

There were a lot of different areas but it was hard for my daughter to actually do anything because the areas were packed and a lot of the items were missing from the areas due to kids moving them around. That's understandable -kids will be kids- but because there were so many kids the staff couldn't keep up with putting the items back in the designated areas. For example, we went to the "mail room" there was literally no mail in it. We went to the tool/building area and there were literally no tools and not enough building materials to build anything. This was pretty much every area we went to. The amount of kids also made it super overstimulating for my daughter. Normally when we go to these kinds of places it's calm and she is actually able to learn, play, interact etc. Lastly, it's expensive. Normally when we go to these kinds of places an adult is included when paying for a child to enter. Here, you have to pay for an adult and child ticket - so it was 44$ for the both of us. Totally not worth the price when it is so overrun.
