Great organization to be a part of if you are in the South Bay. I've been a mentor for 2 years with the same girl that I was paired from Orange County when I first joined. Though due to the distance between the girl and I, we weren't able to attend any of of the mentor/mentee activities that took place in the South Bay. However, we made our own calendar and did our thing in the last two years such as miniature golfing, Afternoon Tea, mani/pedis , and finding new restaurants and dessert places around OC to visit every time we got together. Walk With Sally is a nonprofit organization located in the South Bay, that pairs mentors with kids whose parent had either passed away from cancer or is currently battling cancer. They are trying to branch out to other cities (when I joined 2 years ago - I was probably the first mentor that they paired with a child that was not in the South Bay.) Give them call even if you are not in the South Bay and ask if they have child near your city that you could mentor. It's such a great organization in that some of the mentors in the program were kids who had lost a parent - and as an adult they have chosen to give back to the organization that had helped them through one of the hardest times of their lives. All they ask is that you dedicate 8-10 hours a month to your mentee. It could be one day a month where you spend the day together, or a couple hours a week. I have been very privileged over the last year to partner with this incredible, amazing Nonprofit and just recently I began mentoring through the group. Walk with Sally is an organization that provides mentoring support programs and services to children (ages 7-17) who have parents or siblings with cancer. In many cases, the children in the program have one or both parents going through end stage cancer and are in need of a friend who has been through a similar trial with cancer. Having gone through the same thing at 22, when my Mom passed away after a five year battle with cancer, this has a been a touching way to give back and honor the amazing people who supported me through one of the most challenging periods of my life. Being a mentor is not only about the disease, but is one on one time with a child who for all intents just wants to be a kid. WWS organizes many events like for the mentors and mentees like ice-skating at Toyota Center, attending baseball games, star-watching at the Observatory, or just hanging out and being kids together. As we reflect on the New Year's and our goals to be more selfless and to make a change in the world, I wanted to post this business as an awareness and also as a suggestion for making a positive impact in the New Year. There are children waiting for matches all throughout LA, so please don't worry about proximity to the the Torrance office. This has been a great organization and an experience that continues to give back to me much more than I could put into words or give to it. Walk with Sally has really had a positive impact on my life. I have been volunteering for 2 years now and have had the opportunity to interact with the kids, mentors, board members, and all of the volunteers. It truly is a family. Walk with Sally makes sure that no one has to go through their cancer journey alone. The volunteer opportunities are endless and all of the events are so fun and create a safe space with no judgement. Providing mentorship and support to these kids is the motivation behind everything Walk With Sally does. Nick, Page and the entire team at Walk With Sally do amazing work providing mentoring programs for children who have lost a parent to cancer or whose parent is currently battling cancer. I don't know any other organization like it. I became involved when my son was invited to be a "celebrity" judge at one of their events earlier in the year. I was so touched by the organization that I offered assistance booking the headline entertainment for their largest fundraising event of the year...White Light White Night (http://www.walkwithsally.org/wlwn/). Food and drink tastings from the South Bay's top restaurants, amazing entertainment, a fantastic auction (I donated a guitar autographed by OneRepublic this year), and the smiles on the faces of the program's children...what a special night! Walk With Sally is an organization aimed at providing mentoring for children impacted by cancer. I've been volunteering for over a year and a half and have loved every minute of it. I've never been able to find an organization that has this many volunteer opportunities. I started of volunteering at fund raising events events (Door greeter, Ticket sales) I'm also a photography hobbyist and I eventually started shooting several mentor/mentee activities where I got to interact with the kids. There are so many ways to give back if you are unable to mentor and as an added bonus I have found community, fellowship and have met a lot of friends through Walk With Sally. We partnered with the amazing folks at Walk With Sally on our One Hour Long Cycle Kettlebell Challenge this year and it was one of the best experiences I have had with a non-profit organization in years. Their focus on the mission was always top of mind, and felt connected with and in the loop from the moment we started off on this journey. I have been involved with Walk With Sally for several years. WWS is such a well run non-profit. Primarily, WWS provides mentorship programs to children who have lost a parent or have a parent battling cancer. The founder is very involved and the staff is an incredibly hard working group. Together they lead the mentors and the volunteers to raise awareness and funds for the WWS children. WWS gets so much done with their local fundraising efforts. They accomplish more with less than other organizations that receive large grants. I have been volunteering and working with the Walk With Sally team for over 2 years now and I can say it has been one of the most fulfilling and fun parts of my life. WWS's mission is so important because everyone in some way or another has been affected by cancer, and to provide kids going through this with support, is so important and literally changes their lives. I have watched most of these kids flourish and be able to be a kid again without the stress of cancer because of their mentors and the events and activities put on for them by WWS. I think some also have a false perception that you have to come in and be a mentor but that is not the case! Being a mentor is great, but there are plenty of volunteer opportunities and in fact, most involved are not mentors so that is not a requirement. I would recommend anyone come check out WWS and the incredible people in the South Bay/LA community that are involved. I've volunteered with this company for a little over a year and it's been the highlight of my life here in LA. The staff is a driven, passionate, enthusiastic, sociable bunch who make you feel appreciated and like you're part of a family from day one. They are quick, responsive, and talented but they are supremely surpassed by the beautiful mission of Walk With Sally. This program brings joy during dark times, laughter through the tears, and friendship when people feel alone. You cannot join WWS without being changed for the better. While I do wish our paths never crossed, because that would mean cancer has been eradicated, I'm thankful for the impact this team and organization has provided. I cannot recommend them enough. WWS is an incredible organization! I have been a mentor for a year and half now and it has been the most rewarding experience of my life. The WWS crew are amazing and have such a passion for helping children who have lost a parent or sibling to cancer or are battling cancer. There is such a need to provide for these children and I'm thankful that I found this organization to work with. Great organization, great people, great cause! I have now been involved as a Mentor for Walk With Sally for 20 months and it has been an absolute honor and privilege to be paired up with a wonderful 10 year old. The two of us have so much fun together and it would not be possible (or even have initially occurred) without the structure of WWS. The quarterly Friendship Activities are a blast, along with the ever happening events that pop up throughout the year!! We are sooo lucky to be involved!! I love what they are doing but they are very inflexible when it comes to their rules which is so weird. I'm new to U.S and was looking to volunteer with organisations that support causes that are close to my heart. Walk with Sally appealed to me b'coz I have had a family member battle cancer and I am acutely aware of how devastating cancer can be on the person who is fighting and the family members esp kids. I was called to participate in the 5 hour introductory meeting and was super excited to meet my mentee and help out. However, I had mentioned to them that I wasn't a very confident driver and didn't want to take responsibility for a child's life. This became a huge obstacle and overshadowed the fact that I wanted to volunteer and dedicate 8-10 hours a month to work with them. Since they wanted the volunteers to pick and drop the mentees, I suggested that I could take an Uber, or have a family member drop and pick my mentee and me up till I gain more confidence in my driving. However, all these suggestions were shot down b'coz they wanted their mentors to drive. I thought the idea was to help kids who are in pain to gain a friend, someone who can bring positivity in a situation filled with despair. I was willing to be that friend, that volunteer... if only Walk with Sally was ready to think outside of their rules read more

My kids have joined this awesome organization every since they lost their dad about an year and a half ago. This has made such a great and positive impact on my kids life! Their mentors are awesome! The mentors were impacted by cancer somehow so my kids feel open to talk to them cause they understand. Besides that, they spend great time together such as going to the beach, parks, watching movies, riding bikes, eating lunch somewhere, just anything they'd like to do together. Both of my kids are always looking forward to the next time they will see their mentors. I can't never forget about Julie. She is the most fantastic, phenomenal, wonderful person I've ever met!
