    12/19/09 Adoption Day
    Jesse H.

After moving to the west coast for a job in the non-profit field, I began to look for a local animal rescue to volunteer at in my free time. Being familiar with helping at other animal rescues, Rover Rescue didn't let me down. Their volunteers and founders presented themselves as passionate and knowledgeable individuals in handling and rescuing dogs. Their adoption process seems really thorough and years of experience helps to place dogs into families and households where they'll fit best. I suggest checking out their website since animals are frequently being rescued and adopted. Rover Rescue also has an adoption day every two weeks at Centinela Feed in Redondo where you can see some of the dogs that are currently up for adoption.

Rover Rescue does not mess around. Three years ago - I was looking for a dog and contacted Rover Rescue. They are true matchmakers when it comes to matching canines with the right home! I had contacted Rover Rescue and told them that we were looking for a sweet little FUN dog. I have allergies - so hopefully one I would not be allergic to. We were fortunate enough to be able to foster a dog that we eventually adopted. They had rescued our dog Trixie from the Carson shelter. They made sure she would be a good fit - by interviewing us and coming by our home. This organization is professional, caring and topnotch. I can't recommend them enough! By the way, the joy that our dog has brought into our home is priceless! I am forever thankful for Rover Rescue.

We decided it was time to get a dog and we new that we wanted to adopt one from a dog pound. We wanted a lab or a golden retriever because we have young children and they are good with them. We found one here and my kid's instantly fell in love with him. We took him home and he is the best. This pound is very clean and the people treat the dogs very nice. I would really recommend rescuing a dog instead of buying from breeders.

There is a feline section for adoptees available and a canine section for adoptees available. I am a longtime supporter of this great organization yet, it was my first time at this South Bay area adoption center. Looking for a new companion for our Malinois that we rescued as a 6 month old and have raised to be a wonderful 6 and a half year old. We saw a dog online we wanted to see, so we called ahead to see if we could come see him. They sounded excited on the phone and told us to come on down! We got in the car and drove all the way across town. We get there and not 30 seconds after walking in we are getting a stern lecture about our prong collar on our Malinois, judging us without knowing about a Malinois or her story. The prong collar literally saved her life, it saved her from getting into trouble and is a fantastic training tool when used properly. Maybe don't judge people as they walk in the door. Then...the icing on the cake. The dog we were coming to see, WASNT EVEN THERE. Terrible experience, the gentleman working the front desk should try not being so judgmental of people. I grew up on a farm around working dogs, we know the breed. I feel bad for the dogs here.

With the same thinking, it would not be fair to have a dog here ......unless of course it lived indoors with us. We were blindsided when our son brought Buffy two years ago. He just showed up, and like "Here!" She followed him everywhere from one end of the house to the other and back and forth. When he left she cried and whimpered. I laid down on the floor with her and she looked at me with soulful brown eyes, pleading, "Please help me!" I cried and hugged her and told her, "I love you!" That was it! She was mine. It took some adjusting to my new mommy role added on top of the other things I do everyday. When it became apparent I was keeping her, I contacted GTTDR and spoke with Marcy. She explained their dogs are never to be taken out of state and that she wanted to send someone to Las Vegas to do a home inspection. Laurie came for the visit and saw how happy Buffy was. I allowed her to take photos and send it to Marcy. Laurie seemed pleased that Buffy had a good home, but was quite prepared to take her back to California if requirements weren't met. Marcy said, "So I hear your home is fabulous......" I was impressed that GTTDR went to such lengths. Thanks to Heather also for rescuing Buffy from a kill shelter. Two years later, we love Buffy more than you can imagine. She is family. She is three now. Though she is my primary responsibility for care, etc. she loves her dad and her grandma who lives with us. She gets three walks a day at three different parks in the area. She has tons of doggy and people friends and she loves to run and chase birds, rabbits and chipmunks. She is the fastest runner at any of the parks. Her vet says she's athletic, referring to her muscle tone. In the beginning she couldn't walk on a leash without pulling. She barked at everyone and every dog even if it were two blocks away. Now, she walks off-leash, listens to commands, understands everything I say, and has helped other dogs come out of their shell. She wants to be friends with all dogs with the exception of one. She looks to me to see if I give the okay to say 'hello' and she wags her tail and goes to the other dog/s. She is the sweetest soul you will ever meet. Everyone loves Buffy. She is good when visitors come and loves attention they give. She has such confidence and isn't shy about gentle pawing to get more rubs. On our walk this morning, she turned back to look at me with such a loving look, my friend asked, "What was that look?" I said, "She loves me!" He said, "That's what it looked like!" I'm happy she's ours. She deserves a good home and all the love she gets. She is secure and happy. Don't buy. Rescue!

Review #969 2026-035…read more Carson Animal Care Center is part of the County of Los Angeles Department of Animal Care & Control (DACC), one of the largest progressive animal control agencies in the U.S. It covers an expansive region of 3.4K miles of cities, beaches, mountains, & deserts, providing 24/7 animal control & rescue services with a 24-hour communication center. DACC adopted a new philosophy expression: "Socially Conscious Animal Sheltering" in which their shelters strive to create the best outcome for all animals by treating them respectfully & alleviating their suffering with the intent to maximize their lives while balancing animal comfort & public safety. My son & I were in the neighborhood for lunch over the weekend, & saw that Carson Animal Care Center was en route home so I wanted to stop by their cat house to see if there's any kittens/cats that might be a good fit with our Lynx Point Siamese kitten that we adopted last year. There were several possibilities, but only 1 stood out, a cute 4-month old gray & white kitten; ID: A5756923. He kept meowing at us when we were near his cage, & paraded/rubbed himself back & forth in his cage... definitely wanted our attention! He reached out with his paws to tap our fingers & hands, & liked the mini rubs that we were able to give between the bars. I nicknamed him "Butter" because he just melts your heart & in your hands. He was on hold, to be released W, 02/25/26. I tried to come back before Carson Animal Care Center opens at 11:00 AM, but was slightly delayed (11:15 AM) & Butter was gone. Sad for us, but happy for him to find his fur-ever home. Yay!! I walked around to see if the previous cats had warmed up yet. Again, there were 2 cats that called out when I was near their cage... a charming 14-month old brown, black, & white female tabby with beautiful golden eyes named Sadie, & a 1-year old white & tan male domestic shorthair with gorgeous light blue eyes (similar to Snow's eyes) that is unnamed. I trekked to the front office to request interaction time & had to complete a form. By the time I received the form & returned, Sadie was adopted in a span of 10-mins; while friendly at CACC, she might be a handful at home. I waited a few minutes & no staff returned to the cat house so I went outside, & another officer pointed to another officer who could help with my interaction request. He crossed off the previous ID, & noted A5757653. The makeshift plexi-room echoed a bit so I let him explore the open space & waited for him to warm up to me. I clicked a couple of times & he came to me. This boy has a more gentle temperament, though he'll shed like crazy. He likes head & neck rubs, didn't mind me cleaning gunk from his eyes, or holding his paws/squeezing his nails too much, which means I can probably cut his nails. While rubbing against my leg, I picked him up to place on my lap & he marked my tee & jeans. I scratched him a bit more before leaving & informed the officer that I intend to adopt him. I spent almost 1/2-hr. waiting in the front office, waiting for my turn to process the adoption. I mentioned that he appears to be intact (he is) & CACC will neuter him tomorrow. I asked if it can be pushed to F, 02/27/26 due to the kids' after-school activities, & if he can be cleaned up/groomed because I won't be able to after his surgery. His coat was dirty & slightly matted, & had long, sharp nails; I'm hoping they can take care of this so he's somewhat clean coming home. There's a February adoption special... all adoptions are $14 (I'm guessing for Valentine's). Thanks for our fur baby addition, Carson Animal Care Center... we can't wait to welcome this cutie home!

With a shy and anxious dog who is nervous of strangers and sometimes reactive to other dogs on leash, finding a trusted dog walker is no easy task. I found MMH on Yelp and gave them a call. Melissa called me back within 24 hours, and Sarah came out that week to meet me and my dog and assured me that Allison would be able to take care of our pup. As we still had a few walks scheduled with our previous walker, they even coordinated a time for Allison to join our old walker on one of their last visits and help our dog adjust to the change. Allison is amazing, and we are so lucky to have found her! She took the time to get to know and build trust with our dog. Our dog loves her, she sends the best photos and updates after each visit, and she really goes above and beyond to keep us informed of any concerns. We've worked with lots of great dog walkers over the years, but she is the best when it comes to communication. We have regularly scheduled weekly walking, but MMH has also always been able to accommodate our one-off requests. This is one of the benefits of working with a larger company. If we need a one-off walk, and Allison isn't available, MMH has always been able to find someone, and Allison regularly introduces our dog to other walkers so that there are multiple people who can fill in when needed. We've also used MMH for overnight, in-home care, and again, MMH has always been able to accommodate our requests and we've had positive experiences with all the walkers/sitters so far.

Our Teddy that we ended up adopting came in with a broken leg and the rescue paid for all of his vet bills and even after care at a local pet rehab clinic. I recently went through the foster and adoption process with another dog and Jen held my hand the whole time. She has many local resources, and helps with behavioral training as needed. Here is the thing for potential adopters: she has a team of volunteers but she is literally one woman who matches the dogs with their forever homes. She is VERY protective of her dogs and will take dogs back into the rescue if need be. I can see that she tries to keep them local to the South Bay, and if she doesn't respond to you that probably means you aren't the right fit. Many Instagram rescues do this because they don't have the staff or resources to respond to every application all of the time. They need to focus on the rescue dogs. She'll reach out to you if they think it's the right fit. Best wishes, and let's ALL take care of these street and shelter dogs.

I am updating my review because after looking further into rescues and shelters, I found out that…read moreshelters separate dogs into two categories: rescue only and public adoption. Which means there are groups of dogs that the shelter believes is not adoptable which often get euthanized and aren't even counted. Rescues such as this one, are the only ones that can take these dogs that are unlisted and pending euthanasia. God, why is the system so f*cked up? I hate this world. So I will take back my review but I give 4 stars because we did email back and forth and was told to come out and meet the dog but was barely given the time of day. I get she's busy but wish there was a bit more transparency. That is all. Other than that, l do see how much care she put into this foundation and the dogs. So thank you for that.
