I have been wanting some middle eastern/Mediterranean food lately, and just the day before I visited Akivva Grill in Arlington VA. It was very good, but I spent more than I normally would for eating out. So that is what brought me to Shishkabob Express. While not quite as flavorful as Akivva, I cannot ignore the value that this place offers. Excellent value and really good food. I drive all the way from MD for this place and it never disappoints. Still $18 or $20 with fountain drink. We came during weekend lunch time and while the place wasn't packed, they continued to refill buffet items the entire time we were there. Several different moist kabobs: white meat chicken, spicy dark meat chicken (although not spicy), ground chicken and beef koobideh. Very good hummus and a decent spread of salad, veggies, and other stuff. The naan ran low and they brought out some fresh ones to our table while still warm. I recently went to Shishkabob Express with co-workers for lunch. We were given a number of plates so we can use a new one each visit to the buffet table. There is a good selection of vegetarian dishes and, of course, kabobs. Dishes are refilled quickly, which was impressive. I enjoyed the rice, roasted veggies, chicken kebobs, and bread. For around $20+ per head, Shishkabob Express is impressively delicious. The staff was quite accommodating. The buffet table is clean. The restroom was clean as well. I hit this place up about 2 months ago while visiting a friend in Virginia. I didn't know anything about the place except that it was a kebob buffet and reasonably priced. The place is located in a strip mall and has a totally non-descript vibe, which I love. Inside, there are a few tables and the buffet area is off to the side. I was pretty surprised that the buffet was $16 / person for all you can eat for lunch on a weekend. That's good pricing in my book. They don't have an overwhelmingly huge selection of stuff, but the stuff they do have is excellent. From what I remember, they had ground beef, ground chicken, and tandoori chicken kebobs. My favorite was the ground beef kebob but all of them were excellent. The rice was tasty and I think they had chicken biryani which was great. I think they also had a few different types of curry and lentil dal, which I love. The chickpea dish and grilled vegetables were great too. I had about 3 plates of food and didn't even get dessert cause I was so full. So I'd definitely give this place 5 stars because the food was excellent and the price was on point too. The only bad thing about this place is that they don't put out a lot of food at one time and the kebob drawers got a little bare from time to time. I think that'd be the only thing I'd critique. We went on a saturday. It was $15 flat per person (tax included) for their all day buffet until 6pm. For a late lunch around 4pm, they were still checking and replenishing the food in the buffet as we were dining which was great. My favorites from the buffet were the ground beef kabob, spicy chicken kabob and fries. The meat was very tender and went well with the seasoned rice. For desserts, they offered milk pudding w/ cinnamon and flan. Both were delicious but on the sweeter side. The bread was nothing to write home about. The place was clean and the cashier lady was nice. Due to covid, each person gets 3 large plastic plates and a soup plate with to start off with (you can ask for more plates if needed). My wife and I had some time for a lunch date during the week, so we decided to give the Shishkabob Express a try. This was a really nice find! Lunch for two was around $36 dollars and we got a variety of flavors. Though the buffet buffet is small, it has a variety of Indian, Afghani, Middle-Eastern, Mediterranean, and Latino dishes. My favorite were the Chicken Biryani, the ground Beef Kabobs and Stuffed Grape Leaves. I got creative and made mini Pita Bread Burgers out of the Ground Beef Kabobs. Ketchup and the salad bar items make fine burger toppings! The Chicken Curry was not very spicy at all. It was like a very good stewed chicken. No complaints here! Fresh cut fruit, sweet flan, and "Firmi Pudding" a kind of milk custard dusted with cinnamon made a nice end to a big lunch. My wife also enjoyed the Chicken Biryani, as well as the Spicy Chicken Kabob and the Creamed Spinach. The staff are friendly and the dining area is kept very clean. Amazing. I tried the buffet and the selection was not only robust and extensive, but delicious as well. I had the best ferni (milk pudding) I have ever eaten. The buffet was self serve, reducing the interaction I had with the staff, but the employee at the cash register was friendly and eager to get me more plates. The building had a nice, cozy interior with enough tables to sit multiple people. The place filled quickly with customers but never felt cramped, a testament to the good food the restaurant offered. The staff here is always so nice, there was a point where we went able to come here for a while and when we came back they were excited to see us, greeted us warmly and asked how we were doing. Love going to a place that makes you feel special :) But the real star is the food here. It's...AMAZING! We tell everyone we know to come here because it's just so good! This is an AYCE and the quality reflects that. However, for what you're paying, you're DEFINITELY getting a bang for your buck. The food was good for the price and it was a buffet so it made it even better. I noticed that the chicken kabobs really tasted the same by the time I got to my second plate albeit one being spicier than the other. It wasn't fresh but that's to be expected. The beef kabobs are highly highly recommended an pair that up with their saffron rice....it's all you literally wanna eat. This kabob joint offers a amazing buffet and a very reasonable price. And this isn't a small offering of items on a buffet either, this has your full gambit of foods that you would find at any other kabob joint. Only reason why I didnt give 5 stars is their horrible naan, it's basically the same naan you buy in a store. But really if this place had better naan it would be 5 stars. My coworkers and I stopped in for lunch one day since we noticed their signs for their kabob buffet. Lunch was about $11-12 a person which is a great deal for AYCE! The restaurant is a little small so I can imagine it being hard to find a seat depending on the day. If you don't have time (or the stomach) to be able to AYCE, they have the option for about $6/lb where you can fill up a to go box. It's pretty much self serve, including getting your own drinks and you pay at the end. A decent amount of food options and they were refilling the trays fairly often so the food was always fresh. My boyfriend and I have been coming here for a few months now, maybe once or twice every few weeks when we're craving kabob. We always go for their buffet as their red chicken kabob is literally the best I've ever had (and I've tried many chicken kabobs). Service: Amazing service honestly. Gaby is just wonderful! She always makes sure that everything is going smoothly and asks how our day is. The atmosphere is calm and comforting, simply a place to spend your lunch without stress. Food: Simply the best quality of food I've ever tried. The buffet items don't drastically change everyday, maybe a few vegetable/curry dishes. The red chicken is my favorite, juicy and soft and flavorful. Their rice is very flavorful as well and just the right amount of spiciness. They also offer plain rice if you're not a fan of the spicy. Their salad bar is always FRESH which is important. The salad greens aren't wilted and never look old. They also have fresh fruit, flan, and a few other options for dessert which are yummy as well. Wow! My mom and I wandered in before a nail appointment to enjoy lunch and we were pleasantly surprised by an all you can eat lunch buffet. It was incredibly fresh, the lentil soup was warm, comforting, and had an amazing flavor that my mom couldn't get enough of. Food was delicious, and although I was partial toward the meats offered, the vegetarian options were extensive.
