Nothing to ring home about, but we popped into Shish on a drizzly evening and it did hit the Spot.
We both got the tava, in its lamb and chicken incarnations. We expected a pan-fried dish, but apparently it's a Turkish dish invented for the American palate originally. Good amount of meat floating in an oily stew of onions and red peppers, and it's served with a sizable bowl of fluffy rice and crispy bits of...something.
Before your food arrives, you get some warm breads with an onion-heady salad and two dips. The scotch bonnet pepper dip is probably my favorite thing from the meal: nice zing of heat and the fruitiness of the ass-kickin' peppers really do shine through.
Food does take quite a while to arrive, and the waiter did a weird thing where he pointed out to us that the tava would be £9.50 in an oddly inquiring way. read more
