We moved to town from Boston and were in need of a good garage. Initially, we picked Shippee because the free loaner car was a huge plus. I can say now that we are happy to be with Shippee for lots of other great reasons. We have had a lot of major work done; exhaust, control arms, brakes, head gasket repair, the works! Through all of it, I have felt they have been extremely courteous, straight forward, and professional. Our car (Subaru forester) is humming along great now! They were able to identify issues that our previous mechanic in Boston had not. I can't attest to the prices other than to say that it is definitely less expensive than anywhere in Boston. While they are convenient they have a habit of trying to upcharge me for everything. I literally wait for the phone to ring while my car is there for service to see what they want to charge me for today. They quoted me for a project and months later quoted me again... and not remembering they already quoted me.....the new quote was hundreds more. I feel like they take advantage of people - there work is good but I do not trust them as far as always trying to make an extra buck - super expensive shop. read more

I have been having our cars serviced at Shippee since we moved to Brattleboro in 2003. I recently had service on two cars, oil changes, tire swap, & schedule maintenance. I had been hesitating due to contagion concerns. The process they described, and I witnessed them use, reassured me. They sanitized contact services, including keys, in my cars and the loaner car I used. There was no contact except by telephone during the entire process. And even more reassuring, I saw their staff taking cars out and bringing them in wearing both face masks and gloves. They do great work, stand behind it, and have worked with me to find alternative solutions when appropriate. I highly recommend checking them out, in the time of Covid 19 or any time. read more

I visited Shippee Auto Repair on 6/27/23 after making an appt. on the phone with Anita Lavallley the day before. I explained to her that I was pretty sure that my '07 Nissan Titan had a rear wheel bearing failing and making noise. I told her that I needed the truck to tow my 6500 lb. camper trailer the upcoming weekend and she asked me if I could get it up there the next morning. As soon as I got there she assigned one of their mechanics (Mike) to take a test ride tto make sure we were all in agreement on the noise that I had described.Upon returning the truck was put on the lift for diagnosis.A bad bearing was confirmed and I was quickly told that parts were available locally and a cost and time estimate were given. Anita offered me a loaner car to use so that I would not have to wait around the entire time.The repair went smoothly and was on time almost to the minute with no extra charges added on.I was also made aware of a couple of other minor issues with the truck that they noticed during their inspection with no hard sell to take care of them right away while they had it. To sum it up, This is the most professional and courteous service that I have gotten at any repair shop in a LONG time if not ever! Besides the loaner car, they offer a clean, comfortablle and cool rest area with excellent cell and network signals. I don't usually write reviews but this level of service impressed me enough to take the time to do so. I am hopeful that future visits there (I will go back) go as smoothly. read more

"DO NOT HAVE YOUR CAR REPAIRED HERE!" You've been warned. I was in Vermont for a family vacation and my son's car needed brakes. The estimate was $980 when the cost should of been $550. He took pictures of my son's car and gave me a list of everything that he allegedly thought was wrong with it. This included the bodywork. He also said the brake bulb was out, but it wasn't. Maybe my out of town tags was like winning the lottery for them. They should be "Strippes"...strip customers out of their hard earned money. Don't mind paying a little more, but their price was crazy. My brother in law who is a mechanic for over 28 years was shocked. Go to Auto Mall in Brattleboro, VT where the repair price was a lot more reasonable. Do not waste your time, just go elsewhere. I wish I could give Stripees...I mean Shippee's a negative 5 stars. read more

They are a little expensive but they know what they are talking about and provide great customer service. Plus you can get a loaner car for free while your car is being worked on. read more

I will never go back toShippee Auto for anything! I got my 1 year old 4 Runner inspected there (I live 5mins away) a week and a half ago which took over an hour and a half long. They asked me for my wheel lock key. Said they had to take the wheels off for inspection. I said I never heard of that. My bf runs an inspection bay at his shop but it's in MA, not NH so they said it was different here. I also informed them that I just had 4 new tires put on and balanced and aligned the week prior in which my bf did it whos a master mechanic. I made sure to say this because in dec they tried saying it was about to fail for bald tires and crap. It was less than a year old. (We moved here 7 months ago so I had to transfer from MA to NH) After waiting the hour and a half (they took it right in) I went to get in it and make sure my wheel lock key was there, it was not. They had to look all around inside and outside the shop for it. Turned out they left it on my wheel. I said "good thing I didn't drive away and checked for it before leaving huh". Since it's nice weather I don't drive it often I drive my mustang. Well I drove my truck for the first time to take my dog to the vet and after 50mph the whole truck and steering was shaking. Well my bf took it to work today because he said from them taking the wheels off it probably messed up the balancing that a weight or something probably fell off. He's a master mechanic for 14 years. Wellllll nope that wasn't the case. They added many weights and way too many at that to set my truck off in hopes I would come back to have my truck worked on!! They added over 8oz extra of weights to my front end!! I am furious! read more

My regular "keep it on the road" mechanic was busy and booking weeks and weeks out, and I wanted to replace the clutch and then my exhaust on my VW GTI. Two visits to Shippee, and I'm a happy camper. Clutch holds like a champ and the exhaust sounds amazing. Good price, they talked me through everything, always felt comfortable in the office, and the shop dogs are awesome. Loaner car was solid. The wall full of service awards and technical training was reassuring as well. The do a multi-point inspection of the car, and I didn't realize my coolant was gross and my battery was six years old. How many times have we left a shop with that, "Hmm, something doesn't feel right" vibe? I've felt that many times over the years. I got to spend a few minutes talking with the tech who worked on my car, and I left the lot confident that he knew exactly what he was doing. After the first visit, imagine my surprise when I received a nice card in the mail from Shippee thanking me for being a customer. I appreciate that kind of thing greatly. Easy to do but how many mechanics follow-up with you? Finding good car repair around here has been completely hit or miss for me over the years, and I'm feeling relieved that when I need more work done on my car, I'll be calling Shippee. Sean Shippee is a VW expert, which is key if you own one and want to stay away from the dealerships, as an expert is going to take less time to get the job done and you are paying by the hour. You save here because NH doesn't charge tax (live free or die!) and their waiting room has 2 sweet friendly rottweilers. If you get on the mailing list, they often have specials on oil changes, etc. read more

I love love love these guys. Attitude is always friendly professional, I always get a call before they tack on any little extras that they find along with the estimate to fix it, work is always done very timely and well, AND on my bill I get a list of things that need attention or are on schedule to be done soon along with a ballpark estimate of the cost. Once I had an unexpected morning emergency and they let me borrow their loaner for the day while my car got fixed. In 39 years of seeking a good mechanic I could trust, I've never found anyone who served me like these good folks do. read more

Not really sure of this place. Every time I take my vehicles here they seem to need between 6-800 $ worth of work. Usually brakes. This most recent time my wife took one of our 2010 vehicles here for inspection and they lo and behold end up replacing front brakes entirely. Even told her they would not even put rejection sticker on vehicle as it was a month overdue and she needed the brakes replaced then and there, which forced her to not leave and not get another opinion. Now mind you I neither had any issues with brakes nor did the customary idiot light come on for the brakes. Add to that I was charged 53$ for a fog light bulb for which I found online starting at 17$ a pair? Like I started, not sure what is going on here. I am understanding that car repair businesses are not in the habit of saving me money but 53$ for one lightbulb?I don't drive a cadillac! LOL read more
