Half dozen assorted donuts. - Six donuts are arranged in a cardboard box, featuring a variety of types. Two donuts at the top are chocolate with chocolate chips and a light glaze. The middle row has a powdered sugar donut and a glazed donut with a shiny surface. The bottom row contains two glazed donuts with a smooth, shiny coating. The donuts are placed on a brown paper-lined box, likely from a bakery or donut shop.

I went in for a cup of coffee and a half dozen glazed donuts. They sold me day old donuts. The donuts where somewhat hard and not anywhere near fresh.

I first had Kolaches in Kansas City and it rocked my world. The world Kolache is a Czech word for wheels or rounds. I believe they also stuffed the sweet dough with various savory fillings! Shipley Donuts has a diverse menu with plenty to satisfy everyone in the car going through the drive through. Shipley's Donuts is a very new establishment which is probably the reason I never see many vehicles there. That said with my kids in town, we decided to try Texas Kolaches and were we disappointed. First the good as my Bavarian crème filled bar was really tasty, soft and a great filling. My daughter got the apple fritter which was extremely tasty as well. Soft yet in spot crunchy with plenty of apple flavor, not necessarily pieces, to keep the whole pastry interesting. After selecting the sweet, we scanned the menu for a ham, egg and cheese Kolaches. I asked the "menu of many items" and the board replied back, oh we don't do that. After eating them I think I know why. So, there aren't many options, some options that seem logical and would sell like hot cakes! (sorry for the pancake reference as a donut shop). The way they made their pastries makes me cry. It's probably the laziest way of creating them. Roll up ham, in a little cheese inside the pastry. The customer doesn't get much in the way of meat, several bites miss the meat and the cheese is pretty limited. Next the sausage and cheese kolache and it was worse. A lame hotdog inside a small cheesed pastry. I will add the dough itself is extremely flavorful with a touch of sugar I've come to expect. As a former chef and tried Kolache's from many different states I might add a few suggestions. First make it like a traditional round. Next stuff it with chopped up items, not rolled up meat. This makes for a more satisfying experience as more of the stuffing will be in every bite. Finally more options and if the number one options like Ham, Egg, and Cheese isn't on the menu, time to fix that. Those three are like the breakfast trinity. Egg, Cheese and a meat are always popular. On and to add, when boxing a big order, separate the items. Either mark it on the lid, wrap it fancy like or and the best solution, when making the Kolaches, put a piece of the unique meat on top, so customers can easily identify their food, instead of guessing. This almost caused WW3 in the car with my two kids. So in wrapping this up, I was underwhelmed to say the least. Now the restaurant looked clean, the people nice, the service was fast and the ingredients were tasty. However, the execution leads a lot to be desired. My return patronage will be dictated on what is the object of the visit and location. I can't see myself going out of the way to stop by here and if I did it would be for donuts only. Ultimately, if you want great donuts, try them out however if the itch is Kolaches, I suggest somewhere else.

Bear claw, cake with chocolate icing, and jalapeño and cheese kolache (the best)

My family and I went to Dos Olivos Market for dinner. My husband made a reservation but we really…read moredidn't need it. We walked in, told the person at the front our name and were seated quickly. The restaurant is nice. It includes a little market in one section with various food items that you can purchase. There is also a seating area with couches near the market section. The restaurant has different sized tables for seating. Not long after being seated we were greeted by a waiter that did an excellent job taking care of us the entire time we were there. He took our drink order, gave us menus and some time to decide what we wanted. After a few minutes he brought us our waters and took our order. We ordered several items. El Olivo which is a garlic bread. It was okay. The bread was good. It was nice and warm and the garlic flavor was all on top. Whipped Feta which comes with grilled Naan and cucumber slices. The Naan was okay. It was a little cold and needed to be warmed up a little more for my liking but my kids ate it up. The cucumbers were fresh and crisp and the whipped feta was pretty good. It had a slight lemon flavor but not enough to where you could taste the lemon with every bite. Pork belly chicharron which had pork with avacado covered in a sauce. It came with tortilla chips. The tortilla chips were thick and crispy. Perfect for scooping up some of the pork belly. The pork belly was delicious. The sauce that covered it added flavor and the avacado was fresh. The Lamb chops came with Lamb, carrots and a puree. The lamb itself was excellent. It was cooked perfectly and was tender with each bite. The carrots were slightly sweet and the puree was soft. It was a good mix of different textures with each bite. The Truffle mac and cheese was a macaroni and cheese with chives and truffle flavor. This was very tasty. The macaroni was tender, the chives were spread out and added that slight onion flavor. The cheese was very flavorful. One of my kids ate almost all of this. Barbacoa Doughnuts which are mini doughnuts filled with barbacoa topped with a salsa. I don't really like barbacoa but I tried them and was pleasantly surprised. These were delicious. It was basically a soft and warm mini doughnut filled with flavorful barbacoa. The sauce on it added a slight spicy flavor. Patatas Bravas are potatoes with salsa and a garlic aioli sauce. These were very tasty. That salsa and aioli sauce are what gave this dish all of its yummy flavor. The potatoes had a crispy exterior with a soft interior. All of the ingredients mixed together made a very good side dish. One of my sons ordered the Dos Olivos Burger with Tater Tots. He said that the burger was okay. I tried it and I agreed. The tater tots were good. He ate those up with some ketchup. My other son ordered the Fried Chicken Sandwiches with everything on the side. He substituted a salad instead of the fries. He ate the salad up. He also ate the Fried chicken from the sandwich. He said it was good. He is not a fan of sesame seed bread so he opted not to eat the bun. I tried the red cabbage apple slaw that it comes with and it was okay. Lastly I ordered the Beet Salad which comes with beets, pears, and candied pecans. I don't usually eat beets but I wanted to try it. It was very good. The beet chunks were large and soft but not overly soft. The pears and the candied pecans added a crispier texture and the mixture of all of the ingredients along with the sauce that was on it made this a super sweet beet salad. Almost like a dessert. It was delicious. Overall the restaurant is a cool spot to visit. The market is a neat addition that adds to the ambiance of the restaurant. The service was excellent and the food was delicious.

Service was attentive and we were seated quickly. For apps we ordered the barbacoa donuts and the whipped feta, which was enjoyed by all. For entrees we got a little bit of everything. My dish was the breakfast plate with pork belly, eggs, and tots with a pomegranate salsa that was very good. Wouldn't hesitate to go back and try their dinner!
