I lucky spotted a door open at the bottom of a long set of stairs. To my surprise there were people hustling and bustling below. I also saw a bunch of boxes and decided to take a quick closer peek at what was going on below street level. I ventured down a few steps and to my surprise saw a full blown old fashion Asian Apothecary store complete with an older woman behind a counter mixing multiple herbs and dried roots and wrapping them in brown paper. The store was impressive with the high quality of the Apothecary here, from ginseng roots and extracts to 50 lb bags of miscellaneous dried mushrooms to lotus flowers etc. I purchased some Korean Ginseng Tea at a very reasonable price. This is a great find, next time I will inquire if they have any Goji Berry products or Lingzhi Mushrooms which are somewhat difficult finds. I give Kok Wa Co a Solid 4 Stars. I may have gone up to 5 if I could have communicated with them.

I'm not sure how they make money because there's not a lot of things there but it has been there for quite a while they do have a few rare herbs and dried items which I believe is what keeps them in business. They do have miscellaneous fruits and the standard corner store items. Usually when I walk in there's a very pleasant woman sitting at the counter always says hello whether I purchase something or I don't. It's wonderful to see a shopkeeper that actually takes pride in her store. Kudos to the delight corner store. I Give a Solid 4 Stars.

This tiny store wasn't very appealing when we first wandered by, but what caught our eye was the lychees for sale on the street level outside the store. When we wandered into the shop they had a ton of frozen and vacuum sealed items with little fresh groceries. The cashier was present physically but barely made a peep when we said hello. We ended up buying a bag of lychees which were amazing. Beyond these, the store was fairly bland and there are plenty of other shops in the area selling similar items. Final thought, if you enter the store with items from a different store be prepared to be vigorously questioned about paying for them here. We had this experience with a few bottles of water we brought in.

Being of the curious type, of course I took a peek to see what was down there. I opened the door and made my way down the extra narrow stairway. The further down the stairs I went, the more glass jars and plastic buckets of herbs I saw. Just as I reached the last step and stood safely in the store I was greeted by two wonderfully pleasant Asian women, you know just like your mom or grandmother. The selection of their herbs, dried flowers, dried mushrooms, rare berries and some Asian natural medical items was impressive. The women seemed so happy to show me around the store and answer all my questions. I did not arrive with a list of herbs I wanted/needed. However they had some Organic Goji Berries which I had to purchase since the Organic ones are far and few between. And I decided to treat myself with a treat of Korean Ginseng Candy imported from Korea which is another hard to find item. I will return when I need to replenish some herbs and teas to see what they have. The prices seemed to be very fair and the atmosphere was great thanks to the wonderful ladies who helped me out. They also had a wall covered with a large apothecary chest, so I assume but forgot to inquire if they mix herbs for you. My guess is most definitely :). When I shop at Star market my juice would cost up to $5 per day. From haymarket it is like a dollar a day. And who cares if I'm not using the most pristine vegetables. It's gonna get obliterated in my blender and I'm none the wiser.
