Best food in town. My grandpa used to pretty much live at this place. Very small comfortable hometown bar.

The Thirsty Parrot - Bourbon Chicken with side of onion

Based on a number of favorable Yelp reviews, we decided to try The Thirsty Parrot. One review referred to it as Circleville's "secret" and another commented that it's an often forgotten Circleville bar in a crummy part of town. I would say it's a little off the beaten path but not far from the center of downtown. When we arrived, the waitress said we could sit anywhere. Once seated, she was there right away to take drink orders. We were intrigued by one of the appetizers -- Reuben egg rolls - and ordered one to split. This was an interesting twist on a Reuben AND an egg roll and was delicious. For lunch - it seems their "signature" dish is their bourbon chicken which my wife ordered. She said it was excellent. Being a "burger freak", I opted for their cheeseburger which comes in a 1/4#, 1/2# or full 1# version. I opted for the 1/2# version and added a side of fries. The burger was excellent - a definite candidate for my "top 5 burger" list. The "side" of fries ($7) was enormous and was excellent. The fries were the thin fries typical of good pub grub. My wife shared some fries and said they were some of the best fries she'd had. Service was good if a little spotty but there were only 2 waitresses working when we arrived and then one went off-duty leaving 1 to cover the whole restaurant. Despite there being just 1 waitress, she did a pretty good job of covering everyone.

Love the parrot!! Great food, very clean and reasonably priced. Service is good also.read more

If you're expecting anything fancy you're in the wrong bar. The service is average which makes it comparatively good. Any bar in this town is a dive bar. It's just called being realistic. This place isn't much different except that it's the most popular because it's named for the only reason most people know anything about this town. If you're going at any other time of the year it's usually not too busy. They of course have pumpkin flavored beer, cocktails, and shots. It's about $3 for something like an old fashioned. The prices are pretty good, which makes it worth checking out. I would go to Tootle's the next time in Circleville. If you're there at the festival expect it to be filled to the gills. The rest of the year has some good shows too.

A bunch of us Columbusites went down to Roundtown last night to see Wayne "The Train" Hancock (with Whitey Morgan and the Old 78's) at Tootles. It's a pretty nice bar/music venue, with ample standing room and plenty of local flavor. I wouldn't say rush down to Circleville when nothing is going on there, but if there's a show you want to see, this is a comfy and friendly venue. I do think it's hilarious that the Circleville Pumpkin Festival is such a big deal - ze boy and I were slightly weirded out by it (and the general lack of pumpkin-ness!) when we went on its last day a couple weeks ago, but I won't knock the only major thing Circleville, OH is known for. I will say, though, that the legacy lives on at Tootle's, which uses the pumpkin as a theme on its tshirts, for its drinks, etc etc. (I wasn't drinking, so I can't tell you about that part, except that my friends were downing tall boys of beers I didn't know came in tall boys - Miller High Life, for example)... Anyway, I like the space, as its large, open, and friendly. I enjoyed watching hipsters mingle with rockabillies mingle with townies mingle with my metalhead/Columbus freak friends. Everyone seemed to get along, and everyone knew all the words to Wayne the Train's songs, which made it even more fun. Like I said, this is a good local venue/pub. If you're in town, and looking for a good place to go, I'd say go here. But you can find the same in Columbus without driving 45 minutes, so just keep that in mind. Tootles does seem to have a lot of quality country/southern rock shows going on, so if you like that kind of music, definitely take a look at their schedule. I definitely recommend Wayne Hancock and Whitey Morgan. And of course, Tootles, should you be in Circleville!

Our Order: For starters our sppetizers were the buffalo chicken dip and the spinach artichoke dip. Our main dishes were the Pasta Primavera and Round town Burger with fries. Our drinks were the wrench and whiskey and a black diamond mule. Execution of Our Order: the spinach and artichoke dip was great it had great flavor and was very enjoyable. The buffalo do tasted like it was out of a can and was very unappetizing to be honest. The pasta was cooked perfectly, the vegetables could be cooked a little bit more, and the sauce tasted great. The burger was overcooked and unseasoned which made it kind of dry to eat, the Fry's were fine and tasted okay. The drinks were interesting, we were not a fan of the house drinks personally. We tried to order regular mixed drinks but the bar didn't have half the ingredients which was disappointing. Seating: we sat on the bar side at the high top both times we were here and we liked those. They have booths, low tables, high tables and bar seating available. Staff and Services: our server both times were not very attentive, we came later in the evening and there was not very many people so really no excuse to not check on us. We waited 10min after being seated before we got her to take our drink and appetizer orders. She brings us our drinks and we asked about the appetizers she said they was coming. So we put in our food order. Here's where it was backwards, it took 20 min to get our food no worries but still no appetizers she apparently had forgotten to put them in so we got them shortly after we got our food. Drink Menu: small drink menu but different options for everyone Food Menu: There's a variety of food definitely something for everyone Prices: $$-$$$ Cleanliness: Very Clean Ombiance: Quiet Overall Experience: Sadly not great I don't think we will be coming here again Rating: 2/5 Recommendation: No Family Friendly: Yes Stroller/Wheelchair Friendly: Strollers no, Wheelchairs yes and no, if your back in the bar area it's too close seating there's no room for Wheelchairs, if your in the front room yes there is room for Wheelchairs at some of the tables
