Nate and I stopped in on our most recent visit to Detroit and had a lovely experience. The space is tucked away but had a surprising amount of outdoor space--we were there in January but I'd love to come back in the summer. We were greeted right away and given a spot near the bar. The menu includes cocktails, lots of wine, and several tasty food options. It was quite busy inside, so it took a bit of time for our server to come over to us, but we weren't in a rush. They had ten cocktails on their list and I tried the bullet proof soul and Nate got the negroni alla perra. The ingredients list for some of the cocktails include things I've never heard of, but at a place like this, I just know it's going to be good. Our drinks were perfectly balanced and very tasty. We also ordered the mortadella sandwich to split--this was delicious. It was pretty messy, but worth it. It was perfectly toasted and full of mortadella. Everything on the menu sounded delicious and I would love to try more of the food options. Can't wait to visit again!

We were celebrating a birthday, so we decided to pull out all the stops -- and I'm really glad we did. I'll say right up front that the prices are a little higher than what I would normally spend on a meal, but honestly, it was absolutely worth it. They started us off with garlic bread that was incredibly delicious, and from there the experience only got better. Our server, Andrew, was fantastic. He mentioned that they might have been a little short-handed and apologized that he felt he couldn't be as attentive as he normally would be, but honestly, we never would have known. He did an excellent job keeping our water glasses full and making sure we were taken care of throughout the evening. At our table, we ordered the Chicken al Pastaio, Spaghetti Carbonara, Gnocchi Romana, and I had the Chicken Parmigiano. Every dish was excellent. I sampled a few bites from the other plates and genuinely enjoyed all of them. The real highlight for me, though, was the Beggar's Purse appetizer. It was pasta filled with goat cheese and pear, and it was absolutely divine. I can completely understand why they also offer it as a main course because I could have happily eaten an entire plate of it. For dessert, we shared cheesecake and tiramisu. The cheesecake was more traditional than what you'd typically get at places like The Cheesecake Factory, which caught me a little off guard at first, but it was still excellent. The tiramisu was also delicious, and we all got a good laugh when one of our guests accidentally inhaled a little cocoa powder off the top and started coughing and sneezing at the table. It honestly just added to the fun of the evening. At the end of the night, nothing we ordered disappointed, the service was wonderful, and it turned out to be a perfect place to celebrate a special occasion. We'll definitely be back.

Bronze Door - which my wife and I frequented many years ago when it was called The Hill - is a…read morephenomenal restaurant for celebrating special occasions. It's great for taking that special someone if you want to impress them. The food is excellent, and the service is top-notch. It's less great at 4 PM on Thursday for one reason: the price. Dinner for three with one drink each cost us $150 before tip. It's funny how my wife's mom kept wondering why there was nobody there. This is partly why, though it did just open for the day. Mixed drink prices are in the $15 range, which to be fair is comparable to most places these days. And, beer is reasonably priced at $7 a pint for a Bell's Two Hearted Ale. Be forewarned that Bronze Door is also in the echelon of We Season Our Food Perfectly So You Don't Need Salt and Pepper. You can get some if you need it, which we did, though the need was minimal. My Orecchiette with Pesto and Chorizo was just about perfect, except it needed a dusting of salt. The sausage and pasta were flawless, but the pesto was more subtle than I would have liked. Fortunately, if you order the phenomenal focaccia bread, you get a side of pesto, which I mixed into the dish. My wife's orange glazed salmon was flawless. The potatoes that accompanied them also needed salt. Definitely order the focaccia bread. It's freshly baked and robustly herby. It doesn't need the pesto sauce or the chunky tomato sauce, but they are nice accompaniments. For a nominal fee ($4), you can get a Caesar side salad with your meal. My wife asked for dressing on the side, but the waiter didn't hear her. I'm guessing everybody usually gets the same overly dressed plate of salad. This is such a shame, because all the ingredients are beautiful. This is clearly freshly made dressing over the fresh greens, with shaved Parmesan Reggiano and a little anchovy swimming on top of it. As I said at the beginning, this is a perfect place to take somebody on a special occasion. Everything about the place is old school fancy, from the decor to the cuisine to the service. I think we'll be back on our wedding anniversary.

Our waiter was cool kind and professional. The ambiance is very intimate and upscale casual. The manager was absolutely phenomenal! We saw him walking around talking to different tables including ours. He has great customer service! Now for the food. To share we ordered calamari and firecracker shrimp. Both had great flavor and cooked nicely. The black orchid cocktails were so lovely! We told the waiter to keep the tab open beacuse as soon we finished one, we were ready for another. For entrees I ordered the ribeye with truffle fries while my sister ordered the fish special. My sister said the asparagus had no seasoning but everything else was okay. My ribeye on the other hand was delicious! Cooked perfectly to the temperature I prefer and seasoned very well. The head chef even came by our table to make sure everything was to our liking. So much positive attention and great service all in one night. They know how to leave a lasting impression for sure.
