When attending to my storage unit for about 15min 3 or 5 days a week to minimize and organize my belongings I was constantly harassed by the man working on staff there. He is creepy and rude to say the least. I spoke with the owner about him and though he was kinder he was general dismissive. Things are perfect now at my new storage unit. I drove down to Charlottesville on Saturday to move things out of my mom's old house into storage. We arrived to the storage site with a truck full of stuff. No one was around at the office but there was a sign to call a # if you needed help. So we did that and within 5 mins the manager came cruising a long on this golf cart. He got us checked in, gave me the lock and key, and lead us to the unit. The unit was clean and easy to access. The door is easy to open as well as the lock. They also give you a personal security code for the gate (to get in and out). We moved another truck load of stuff that afternoon. They said they do not have flooding in that area (unlike other storage unit places in Charlottesville) so that's good. They have also been around for almost 12 years and I got 2 positive references from other people which is why I chose to go here. They are also the same price as most other places and not the most expensive. I am paying $80 a month for my 5 x 10 unit. I chose not to get climate controlled (more expensive) + they were already sold out. The manager guy who I worked with over the phone was always quick to call me back and helpful. The only thing is that he talks real fast, I mean REAL FAST and you can't really understand anything he is saying even when sitting across from him in his office. I just nodded my head acting like I knew what was going on, but really I had no clue! He knows what he's doing though as he's been working there for over 11 years. My favorite thing about the place is it's isolation feeling from the rest of the sitting. It's very green in that area - lots of trees and tons of birds chirping away. It was a peaceful setting moving all that stuff.

The crew was efficient and effective while also being respectful and considerate throughout the day. The owner even debated with me over some of the damage as the crew member denied it. We felt that they use nice polite workers that appear to work hard. However, there was no crew leader and it was a free for all loading and unloading our belongings. We had everything packed and marked as to where it should be placed in the new home, it just didn't happen 50% of the time unless we were on top of them constantly. Young guys that seem to have this as a way to make a living and no skin in the game, so to speak. Having said all this, we enjoyed talking with them and actually was able to gift them quite a few pieces of belongings we couldn't keep and helped them personally. So I was paying for storage from the time I reserved it even though it was a week in advance of when I planned to use the storage. In the end my circumstances changed and I never used the storage. I canceled it nine days after the date I originally intended to fill it and the owner was very inflexible about providing any refund. So I payed a full month, a holding fee and a move in fee without ever having used the space. Again, maybe this is normal, just thought I'd throw it out there.

She sent over all the paperwork to sign. However, there were glitches with using my phone. I later signed in person and it was easy and took just minutes. It's easy to drive onto their property and unload, or load right outside your storage locker. They can accommodate large and tall trucks. You must provide your own lock, they also sell them. I'm unsure how large they offer, but I got a 5x15. I would recommend. The only reason not a five is dealing with signing paperwork.

We rented an outdoor non-climate controlled unit. We had a lot of spiders (which, yes is a problem at all storage places) and stink bugs in the unit. Stink bugs hid in our cardboard boxes and we've been finding them as we open our boxes, so I'd recommend using plastic storage bins and sealed tops if you rent a non-climate controlled room. The units are a hecka lot cheaper than the Public Storage close to UVa. So overall, I'd recommend this self-storage.
