2 different salesman and 1 finance guy told me they would get back to me, call me on a specific date and yet that never happened. One salesman did respond after I emailed to ask why the lack of response. He said he called, although my phone showed no missed calls or messages from the dealership. I've purchased several vehicles and suggested friends and family to check Shields out. I've been a good service customer with them for this last vehicle with them all the service has been thru the dealership. No more, if this is how they support their customers, I want no part of this place either location Paxton or Rantoul!! read more

My wife and I purchased a used 2014 GMC Terrain here in early September 2016. We chose Shields because its local to us and they have a free extended warranty. My initial thoughts on the place where good, the salesman(Richard Heinz) seemed down to earth, eager to get us what we wanted, and somewhat knowledgeable. We test drove about 9 cars that day some even from the Rantoul lot. As you can imagine it was a long day. When we finally figured out what one we wanted everyone was ready to go home and we were rushed to complete paperwork. As we finished up we were told because of the time we need to come back in the morning to get the plates finished and ON Star activated. The following day when we came in Rick seemed almost annoyed with us that he had to do follow up work. And the fuel mileage he had quoted was no were near what we get (30 promised 24 actual). Before purchase we asked about service history and if the vehicle was current we were told yes. A week after buying the vehicle we found out it was do a tire rotation minor yes but still inconvenient. We called for service and had to wait a week to be seen . That day we dropped off the vehicle off at 9am and came back at 1pm. The tire rotation still wasn't done, another hour later we were charged $17.65 without so much as a I'm sorry for the wait from Rick Ingold the assistant service manager or an offer of reimbursement from the salesman who misinformed us (Richard Heinz). Fast forward to December 21 oil change light comes on in vehicle I call schedule an oil change plus service, I'm told December 28 @ 10:30am. I arrived at 10:28 on December 28 and park in front of the bay doors. I bring the keys into the service office and let them know I'm here. I ask Rick Ingold to verify what services need done at my mileage. I informed him I would be in the waiting room. 30 minutes go by and no one has come to see me yet. I go to the shop window to see if my car is being worked on yet. It has just now been pulled in 30 minutes late (glad I was on time). I decide to walk the lot to calm down I return at the 1 hour mark 11:30 am and go to the waiting room. 11:35 I go back to the service counter and ask Rick again about what additional services am I do. He finally looks it up and says I'm do a brake fluid change and he has never heard of that service before. Another half hour later my bill is just shy of 100 dollar's. I get no apology for the additional hour of wait time. I get no apology for not looking up what service I'm do. In fact I'm told by Rick that the services that I am do can wait until next oil change. I ask him what about my warranty from this place. He says it will be fine because I get a 1k buffer. umm...... my services are 7.5k apart? wouldn't that make my warranty invalid by 6.5k. 1 They are slow to schedule service. 2 They are slow to do service. 3 The service writer/service assistant Manger has no idea how do their job or deal with customers. 4 Sales department leaves much to be desired at least from Mr. Heinz. 5 There free extended warranty has you jump through hoops if you choose anyone other than them. 6 Plus there is no guarantee that it will even be honored since the service writer does not verify what needs to be done prior to accepting services. 7 Added con No wireless service nearby so you can't verify anything while you are there. I won't even give them 1 star. The place is a joke. I was told my used car (that I've only had for about 10 months) needed aver $1500.00 worth of work done to it. I took my car to a real car repair and it was just my brakes that needed work. I have to give them a star. Just picture a minus sign in front if it. read more

The employees at Shields Automart in Rantoul IL have boundary issues. One of the servicemen KYLE WHITE caused my check engine light to come on only hours after I drove off the lot by fueling my car with the wrong kind of gas! He stated he was unaware certain cars need certain types of gas... (turbo engines needs premium gas, V4-6 need regular, etc) When he was alerted of his mistake and it was proven to be the gas issue with help of a diagnostic assessment of the car, they stated there was nothing they could do and that they would not buy the car back from me, because the check engine light was on. Ironic? Kyle has also become very buddy-buddy with my fiancé, using vulgar language in conversation, TEXTING my fiancé asking him to tell me things for him, and other business information he wants relayed to me, sometimes not during regular business hours. Also, my fiancé did not sign as a co-signer. He instructed Kyle that he was not the owner of the car, I was, and to tell me himself. I proceed to get back-to-back-to-back calls from (217)893-4197, I called back and a woman answered and stated it was Shields Auto and did not know who I was or why I was calling. I have since blocked the number to stop the calls. Very poor professionalism!! Very unorganized Do not give them your phone number!! read more

Wow! Reading the other review sounded a lot like issues we had there too. The forever warranty they push is bogus. All work has to be done at Shields at a high cost, plus the same thing about being told we were good to go on mileage before anything else needed done was in our opinion a flat-out lie. When we did bring it back for scheduled maintenance, we were told we were 150 miles over for a tune-up and we were no longer going to have our warranty. Jumped their hoops for 3 years and ended up losing our lifetime warranty because THEY said we were fine until next time. Its a SCAM! Will never go back to Shields for anything!! read more
