This was my first time ordering a new vehicle and Mark made it super easy and was very helpful. He took the time to explain all the options and answered all of my questions. Placed my order and it was in sooner than I expected. Shields was a great place to buy from, and Mark was an excellent salesman! read more

The initial process and experience was good and I thought I received a fair deal overall. My main issue is that during the purchase I was lied to about the lifetime warranty and being allowed to do my own maintenance. Both the salesman and the finance person told me I could do my own oil changes as long as I called the warranty company first, gave them my mileage, and kept all receipts. I was told that if I didn't do this then they would reject any claims. I read through all of the warranty information over the weekend and there is a sentence that states self-performing maintenance does not meet the requirements. I went back to the dealer the following week to discuss this with them and see if at a minimum I could receive discounted oil changes if I brought it back to them. The salesman denied saying I could do my own oil changes and the finance guy admitted to saying it and said it was a mistake. I asked if he could discount the oil changes and he said he would need to speak to the owner. The finance guy came back and said that I could use someone that can do the oil changes for less. I asked if the owner was unwilling to work through the problem and he said there was nothing he can do. I clarified that there was nothing he wanted to do because the sale was complete. So, I asked if it was customary for them to use misleading statements and lies to make the sale and then move on and I was told that was not the type of dealer they are, however it clearly is. I'm also a member of the Farm Bureau and as a member we receive a $500.00 discount on certain vehicles when purchased new. They refused to accept the certificate because they told Ford they sold the vehicle the prior month to receive the incentives and that was why they could offer it at the current price. I spoke with the Farm Bureau and they said once the vehicle is listed as sold, they could issue the rebate and discuss it with the dealer or Ford. Farm Bureau members be careful when considering this dealership. In the end it is ultimately up to the buyer to review all documents and fine print so that is on me, I just wanted to let others know of my experience with them and that I will make future purchases somewhere else. read more

Took my 2017 Dodge Journey to the Service Center. I wanted to see if there was a wiring problem that was causing the rear windshield wiper and lift-gate headlamp not to work. Made an appointment. Dropped the car off on a Monday morning. Never received a call. I took it up on myself to call and check the status because it was nearing closing time. I was told they didn't get to it and would have to diagnose the problem the next day. This was very disappointing considering I made an appointment. Received a call the next day and they detected a wiring problem that needed to be repaired. I had to make another appointment to get the repair done which was the following week. When my wife picked the car up after being diagnosed, they charged $202.50 Diagnostic Fee without any repairs being done! When my wife voiced her concern, both the Technician and the Cashier assured her that if we had the repair done there, the Diagnostic Fee would go toward the total repair. The estimate for the wiring repair was $270. Essentially, I had to get the repair done or I'm out $202.50 without anything being done at all! We scheduled the appointment and had the repair done. When my wife dropped the car off, she made sure she brought the receipt from the Diagnostic Fee. They assured her that it was, "standard practice," that the money we paid for the Diagnostic Fee would go toward the repair. When my wife picked the car up, they handed her a bill for $270. She reminded them of the Diagnostic Fee that we already paid and that was the whole reason we had the repair done in the first place. The Technician told her that the total repair was $472.50! My wife tried telling them that we were quoted $270 just for the wiring repair. They refused to honor that quote. My wife paid the bill and didn't cause any fuss because she's a nice person. To say we're disappointed and will never return, is an understatement. In today's economy, this is a lot of money for us and it hurts. Terrible experience from beginning to end. I don't even know what to say. read more

Best possible car ordering/trade-in experience!! Everyone was wonderful and went above and beyond. My salesman, Dave, even helped move my car seats around between my cars! A+ read more

Shields Auto Center - Car Dealers Near Me - Rantoul, Illinois

Mr. Shields was very condescending, and they basically expect you to pay the sticker price...which no one is going to do. Lost a sale over a couple of thousand and his abrasive manner. Oh, well. read more

Poor customer service from management. Drove hours to deal with them on a very specific vehicle I had been looking for. They were woefully unfamiliar with out of state procedures. Charged incorrectly, took weeks to get reimbursed. Veh required service for a known issue, gm Rick refused to cover the cost and wanted me to drive all the way back for them to do it in house. Lesson learned. read more

My daughter got ripped off by these clowns. Below is her post For anyone around Rantoul thinking of going to Shields in Rantoul, DON'T. We bought a Tahoe from there middle of June, called the end of June to tell the of issues and never could get through to the service center. A few days later I called and got though and the guy I spoke to came off as extremely arrogant and told me we were out of luck because we were past our two week warranty (when we could could get through we were within the two week). The guys told me he doesn't know what's wrong with it and it needs to be brought in. I wasn't driving 3 hours to bring it in and it not be under warranty. After taking it to the chevy dealership twice here to finally figure out the issue it needs a whole new transmission. I 100 percent belive they knew of the issue prior to selling it. Several people said how bad that place was and now we know first hand. read more

Zach E. I recommend not getting the extended warranty. Had a starter problem and a few other small things the warranty covers. But since it wasn't acting up at their shop on their time. It didn't need replaced. Warranty is a rip off. read more

My car has been at this location for 11 months now awaiting a chip for a Ford Transmission recall issue. We understand that there is a shortage for this part but that isn't quite the issue. when we brought it in we were adv that there was only 1 other person ahead of us to get this part. then 3 months later we were adv that person had gone elsewhere and so we were moved to be the first to get it. I just called in today and they stated they had only gotten 1 chip in the last 6 months and it went to someone ahead of us. I adv they we had been getting told for 8 months now that we were the next in line. They only said they will have to talk to the manager when he gets back in a week. Also, several months back we had gone to take care of the car. (No care is being taken by Shields) We adv that the tire was parked half off a concrete slab and was putting undo stress on the tire. The battery was dead so we couldn't move it ourselves. When we again went out the to clean the car the car had never been moved and the tire was flat and it was sitting on the rim and the battery still dead. We did go in again and they have since at least aired up the tire. Still not happy at being passed over for the part we needed. Still waiting on a resolution. read more

i'm not an unreasonable person. i do not like to complain nor do i like to make a fuss. nine times out of ten, if my food is wrong at a restaurant or something wrong happens in a service industry, i don't say a word. today i went car shopping with my father as i am expecting twins and need a larger vehicle. our first stop was at Shields Auto Center in Paxton. i can appreciate small businesses, i would much rather give my business so smaller business than big corporate places but today, what happened was totally unacceptable. we test drove said vehicle and went inside to talk numbers. after discussing numbers and not being able to reach an agreement, we said our goodbyes and left--no hard feelings. well, not twenty minutes later did we get a phone call from the salesman offering us a deal on the vehicle. we said absolutely, we were eating lunch and we would be back. we get back to the dealership and someone else was test driving the car we had just made a verbal agreement on, and they were also going over the numbers. we were told to wait and "see what happens" with the other individuals. after i made a comment to my father about how this was shady, as we already had a verbal agreement, the sales manager flies out of his office to lecture me on how they were not shady, and he had no idea about our deal that HIS employee had made with us...sure. so, these other individuals made a deal on the car as well and they were the ones purchasing it after we had already made a deal for it. like i said, we are not unreasonable people, and we know car purchasing is a nightmare but this was absolutely unacceptable. zero integrity at Shields Auto Group. read more

I went to Shields Auto Center seeking a new truck and was pretty much blown away by the close family atmosphere from everyone I met, especially Terry Twitchell, whom I had previous experience with. Terry is a great guy, very knowledgeble, easy to talk to, and a very stand-up guy. I'm very happy with the entire process from Terry to Teresa to meeting Greg. I love my truck and I will be coming to Shields Auto for service and whenever we need a new vehicle. Just can't say enough about the warm family atmosphere which I didn't experience at other dealerships. I will refer to others about my positive experience there. read more

I had been looking for a car all across Champaign-Urbana. All the dealerships in that area were either 1. taking advantage because it was my first car purchase or 2. had cars that were very overpriced and refused to take the price down despite it showing otherwise on Kelly Blue Book. So I went out to Rantoul, and found Shields. Staff is super friendly and helpful. I found my car in 10 minutes and I felt the price was just right. I highly recommend coming out here to look for a car. Every dealership in CU tries too hard to take advantage of their customers. read more

We have had nothing but excellent service here. Not only did they give us a great price for buying our truck, they have us a really great deal on the truck we purchased from them. Since then, we've been back for all of our tire rotations and oil changes. Their forever warranty has already helped us twice with the vehicle (if you get all of the maintenance done on time, then every major repair is covered). I hate feeling cheated when you go to a car place that tries to scam you out of every penny, so I really appreciate their honesty. You get a free oil change after you get a certain number of oil changes with them (maybe the fifth one is free?), earn money off future repairs when you get oil changes through them, and they never push unnecessary things on us. I recommend them to everyone who is buying a new car. read more

I was shopping with a parent for a new vehicle which is a daunting task when your parents begin to need assistance. We had looked at multiple dealerships and even tried the internet sales departments at most. A friend suggested we check with Shields. Having never been there we figured we would go look and see what they had. We found the perfect vehicle and figured we would ask about it. The sales staff didn't mob us like at the other dealerships we'd been to. We met Terry and instantly he put my fathers mind at ease. The whole process was painless and efficient. I am NOT a fan of dealerships but this was a very easy trip. Shields staff was helpful and courteous at every turn. The truck we bought was spotless the bank paperwork explained without the typical dealer sales pitch and we decided to purchase that day. A difficult situation was made very easy by Terry and his surrounding staff!!! If you're not a dealership kind of person I recommend giving Shields and Terry a shot. read more

My husband and I had been searching for a pre-owned convertible for quite a while when we finally found just the right one at Shields Auto Center on the AutoTrader app. We contacted them via the internet and Andy got back to us very quickly. He was very honest and helpful and made sure we were comfortable with the terms. Teresa was amazing! She worked with me to get the payment and all the correct paperwork signed and sent back and forth and answered all of my questions with friendliness and courtesy (and I had a lot of questions since we were buying from out-of-state). The car was delivered to us with a fresh oil change, full tank of gas and a friendly smile from Lee! Car buying can be stressful - especially when you're buying via the internet "sight unseen," but the team at Shields made us feel very comfortable, valued and appreciated and treated us with courtesy and respect and when the car finally arrived any stress we had about buying just disappeared! We felt very taken care of throughout the whole process and would definitely recommend Shields Auto Center! read more

I bought an SUV from this dealership. They told me everything was good to go and they figured out the check engine light issue. It seems like every couple weeks since I purchased the vehicle there is another issue that reveals itself. I was told by a salesman I could call their service center for issues with the vehicle. A couple weeks later I called them about a gas gage problem and they told me that they could not do anything about it and to find a different center. Not an intelligent way to market for your company. read more

I recently went here for a brake job. I showed them exactly what was wrong they told me what was wrong with my car. We made an appointment to have my car repaired they said the labor would be about $175. I brought my car there they said it would take a couple hours after four hours they had done nothing. They told me that they did not have the correct parts after waiting over a week for my appointment. Of course I was upset. But I decided to give them one more chance. So we made an appointment for the next week. Once again they got the wrong parts. So they gave me a loaner and My car one more day. They finally got the car repaired the next. They charge me way more than they said they would for labor. These people do not keep their promises. They are incompetent, and they will rip you off. I cannot encourage you strongly enough to stay away from Shields automotive. Go anywhere else you will be robbed by these people and they are incompetent. Please don't go there will be sorry. You have to give a start to post that's the only reason they get any stars from me do not go. read more

terrible customer service!!!! my wife and i were 300 miles from home and caught a flat tire which i replaced the wheel with the donut for the time being until we found an auto center. being in the middle of nowhere it was hard to find a shop that had the tire. after driving for miles we found shields auto and were extremely hopeful they would help especially since i had the wheel off already. nope!! they were too busy conversating with a different customer and watched me stand there for 10 minutes before even greeting me at all!!! not even a hello well be with you. oh yea what were they talking about you may ask??? college basketball!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! after 10 minutes i was immediately told they have no time to help me until next week!! are you serious!!! there was like nobody there!!!! we then proceeded to Champaign where we were extremely lucky to find a shop that actually likes helping customers!! especially ones who are almost stranded in the middle of nowhere!!!! never give this place any of your money they do not care about their customers at all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! read more

I would like to say to everyone DO NOT go to Shields auto service center! I have been there 3 times over the last couple of weeks because I just bought a brand new car and the emblems had fallen off the back of my car, well after taking it to shields and them ordering the wrong parts 3 times, I finally got my car back and the emblems were slanted and not put on right and there were scratches all over my car from where the emblems were originally suppose to go. During all this I had to have a rented car, which shield's had to provide for me since its a brand new car and under warranty. The rental car had no gas in it so I would not even be able to make it to a gas station to get gas so I had to fill it up which they did not reimburse me for. All the while after I said that my car was not fixed right, the manager tried to tell me that I was wrong and that that was how my car was suppose to look. I told him to go look at the car models that were on the lot that were exactly like mine and then tell me that my car was the same as those and then he agreed that it was put on wrong. Needless to say I told them I was not letting them touch or come near my car again because now its ruined and its a brand new car. So stay far away from shields you will regret it and your vehicle will be ruined. read more
