I thought we needed reservations when entering because they asked us if we had but they were able to sit us down. It took a while to get us water, and the beverage that we ordered. It probably took like 10 minutes before someone came to see us when ordering, the waitress was asked a question about the menu, and she rushed to answer it and left without me asking something else I had to ask. What we ordered was decent we ordered the combination sushi dinner which was the naki maki and we ordered the combination dinner of the teriyaki steak with the Shibui sushi roll. The sushi dinner was OK.. very basic rolls with little fish in it which I thought that it was weird because the price is more with the quantity over the quality. Shibui has been my go to place for the last 15 years. I ordered take out last night and the sushi was subpar. All the rolls tasted the same. The flavors did not go together. Rice was lacking flavor and it was of a gummy off putting consistency. I have no idea what happened to this place. Maybe new sushi chefs. I don't know. But the quality is gone. Not only do they skimp you on portion sizes but the sushi is of poor quality. I'm not going back. It's hard to find an authentic sushi restaurant nowadays. read more

Ambience was superb great experience especially the Japanese sitting sashimi was fresh and delicious but unfortunately the Rice was a complete failure the rice for the chirashi, nigiris and rolls it was a little too much vinegary u smell it and taste it most of the leftovers was the rice on those, the plain white rice was on point. Was invited for a family sushi night at Shibui. This place has seemingly been in business forever but in noticed they recently made the interior a little more modern and updated. The server was very friendly, attentive and patient with our group. We had some great sushi and sashimi. Most notable was the quality of the uzukuri and the chirashi. This place is a hidden gem. sushi always tastes fresh and never disappoints. I've been coming here for a couple of years and it's still my favorite place to go for sushi. I always start with the soft shell crab and the tuna tataki. Those two are my staple appetizers. Then it's either sushi rolls or the sashimi special. Either way you won't be disappointed. Shibui used to be one of our favorite sushi places in town. My family and I would go every weekend to enjoy the delicious variety of sushi and hot dishes. The amazing variety of sushi rolls is a huge plus. There's a role for every taste bud you can imagine. Also super delicious hot dishes when you feel like it. In the last 3 months, the quality of the food has gone down. Too much rice and the rolls tend to fall apart. They don't have the same yummy feeling to it. The place needs makeover. I have gone to Shibui a couple times, and my favorite by far was sitting upstairs in the low Japanese style tables. The staff is always friendly and willing to help explain menu items. There is definitely an authentic ambiance and I can't wait to go again! I made a reservation and we were seated promptly, definitely recommended specially on a weekend, the wait w/o res could be 45 mins, or more! First of all I don't eat Sushi. I always order the spring rolls, edamame and the Filet Mignon Teriyaki. Never ever have I been disappointed. In my younger days I loved sitting upstairs on the floor but now my knees dictate that I must sit down stairs. All of my friends say the sushi is the best and freshest in town. I am a huge fan of Japanese restaurants and I came to this place for the first time with high expectations. When I arrived I noticed only a few guests dinning and I asked for a table for 2 , the host told me he would check if they had anything available. To me that was ludicrous, I understand reservations were encouraged but there were not busy and nobody was coming at that time. After we got the table it took the server almost 20 minutes to come to take our order. Food was average imo, nothing extraordinary. The food was really good we had the edamame and seaweed salad which are always a hit. The spring rolls were good came four in an order. The sushi boat was amazing the sashimi tasted like butter the fish was fresh and melt in your mouth. I felt like the spicy tune roll with Rocco could have been spicier. Disappointing. Hot and humid upstairs in the pillow-seating area. The servers are very friendly but, ah, how can I be polite? Not the brightest bulbs in the pack. Sorry; trying to be gentle but honest here. Ordered an appetizer - Beef Negimaki - and it arrived at the end of the meal. Severely lacking in flavor, and the included sauce did not help much. Asked if the Beef Sukiyaki also had udon noodles; server said yes. Udon noodles are those super thick (and delicious) noodles that accompany sukiyaki. What arrived was an abomination. Wrong noodles and the beef was a sloppy pile of beef that was too thick and too long for this dish. There was no care; no "presentation", but instead everything piled in. The broth was also lacking in flavor. Worst sukiyaki I have ever had. I politely sent it back. The server's attitude changed DRAMATICALLY. This is where I wish that I had the nerve (and lack of class) to throw a public fit; only that would get the attention of management. Then again, the more I look around this place, I think they stopped caring 20 years ago. I ran out of water. Four server visits did not correct this. I was about to speak up, but decided to pay and leave. Wow. Shibui is a few years past it's prime. Sad. The other (few) full-service Japanese restaurants are far better. Shibui has been my go-to for years. Best salmon nigiri out of any sushi spot I've ever been (also the least expensive). Very cozy, authentic feel. You can sit on the floor if your flexibility allows. Their wine is also very well priced: full bottle for less than $25 is super clutch. Their mushroom appetizer is also superb, as is every roll they have on the menu. Okay so loved! This place has two floors, the first has a bar and regular table sitting. The second has sitting on the floor with a cushion. We figured we would eat on the floor, it was so fun! It was a different experience. We ordered the tuna sushi sandwich and sashimi for appetizer. They were good! I'm not sure if I would order the tuna sushi sandwich again, only because it was a busy sushi (it's a preference thing). We then got a couple rolls and as an amazing yelper that I am, I forgot which rolls AND forgot to take photos! But I do remember loving each roll, you cannot go wrong here! The only thing was the rolls were all coming at different times, which is good because it's fresh but at the same time I was getting full more quickly. Something I wish I would've taken into account and now I know. The fried donuts were HEAVEN! The tempura ice cream, I can live without. I found the batter it was fried in too sweet and I just didn't like it. It was a bummer because that's one of my favorite desserts. Before I forget, the mango margarita sake is AWESOME!! Over the years of living in Miami, I have been to Shibui a few times. I love the seating on the second floor, as it feels more "authentic." However, the restaurant does smell like carpet sometimes. Also, be prepared to smell like food after you leave the building. The restaurant's scent really does stick and get absorbed into your clothes haha. Prices are a bit more on the expensive side in my opinion, but the food portions are pretty big. My favorite is the Age Tofu so far. It's fried but not super fried if that makes sense. The sauce is great, not too salty, a little sweet. The tofu is light and fluffy. Edamame is just...edamame, with sprinkles of salt. I ordered the Stir Fry Chicken when I was there last time but the sauce was sooo salty to the point that I could only eat the chicken and broccoli. I kept drinking water because I was so parched from the dish. My friend ordered the Seafood tempura and everything was fried just right. The pieces were big. I tried a sweet potato tempura and it was great! Service was a bit slow, but the waitress was very nice. Apparently my friend had her as his waitress before too and he said she was very kind, they talked about Japan. I don't really recall how were the previous dishes that I've ordered in the past before last time I was there. The food is a hit or miss, it really depends. But the only ones I remember were the Age Tofu and the Stir Fry Chicken. read more

I was definitely surprised when we were lead upstairs to an ADORABLE floor seating experience. I don't know about you... but when I eat out I like to experience things I don't experience at home. Eating Japanese food in a traditional setting is not something I experience at home. Food: We had the baby octopus and beef fried gyozas, truthfully they were both a little underwhelming. The sushi was very good. It wasn't the best I've ever had but it was definitely very good. We ordered the Spicy Crunchy Dragon Roll, this one was my favorite! Flavor was amazing... but it kept falling apart. Not sure what the problem was but it wouldn't stay firm after the soy sauce. We also ordered the Volcano Roll.... I'm used to having the shredded crab, here they serve it with a "crab salad" on the side that tastes like creme cheese. I tried a new roll called Kani Shu(or something like that), it is so refreshing. Instead of seaweed it's rolled into sliced cucumber. I suggest letting it sit on the sauce. Dessert was very good. We had the Banana Tempura with Ice Cream and Thai Donuts. They were very good!! Service: The servers and staff were so friendly, pleasant and helpful. They gave us time to talk and weren't at all pushy. I really appreciated that!!!! Con: The lighting in the restaurant is romantically dim. Many people enjoy that, but I personally like a little more lighting. Perhaps one of those electronic candles would keep the room dim but a little more visible. read more

A true Japanese gem in Miami. Shibui has been around since the 90's, in the same spot and with the same set up. I hadn't been back in well over 15 years, but visiting tonight brought back some great memories of good food and great service. We opted to sit in the floor seating upstairs, which proved to be fun for the kids but not so much for the husband :). If you're looking for sufficient leg space and the ability to move your joints, then opt for downstairs or bar seating. Service was excellent- our waiter was thorough and had fantastic recommendations. The food was fresh and consistently delicious ( just like the old days) and from start to finish, we enjoyed our meal. My only suggestion would be to possibly update some of the carpet upstairs and the seating around the bathroom downstairs- it was a bit dated and could use some sprucing up. On a random Tuesday night, this place was still very busy so definitely expect a wait if you're visiting during weekends or holidays. read more

Great spot in Kendall with 2 floors. On the 2nd floor you can seat in the floor and have a way better experience. Our server Damien was so good and really kind, always answering our questions about everything and offering us different options, so great service. We ordered sake and a beer for our drinks, sake was really good and Sapporo is always a good option on sushi places. Also we ordered 3 rolls, and there was this roll with no rice but cucumber, normally I don't like cucumber but that roll was so good. Also we had the California (classic) and spicy tuna roll. Shibui is right around the corner from me and offers rock solid sushi. It is right off of 72nd street. The suishi I have ordered has always been fresh and tasty. The menu for suishi is all basically named rolls. So if you want a specific style of fish you really need to read thru all the offers. The restaurant is cute inside and offers plenty of seating. I cannot believe it's taken me this long to review Shibui!! I have seriously eaten here dozens of times over the years and I still can't get enough! It's tucked away within an unassuming shopping center but the restaurant itself is lovely and authentic. I love reserving the upstairs area for traditional Japanese style seating (on the floor). My usual order: seaweed salad to start, (steamed) shrimp Shumai appetizer (delicious little dumplings) And a Cuke Crab roll ( a delicate sushi roll wrapped up in thin slices of cucumber instead of rice and served with a light and tangy sauce )seriously the most unique roll I've had - my personal favorite. You MUST finish off with the fried cheesecake topped with a scoop of red bean ice cream!!! Tonight I had A double order of the Miso Soup & a seaweed salad. My parents both ordered the ramen - they loved it . You can request to add Pork and Egg for an up charge. We shared the Shrimp Shumai app and a Spicy Tuna Roll.
