The bread was different and quite tasty. It had some sprinkle of something on it. It gets hard pretty quickly so it is best to eat it right away. I thought it was pretty good. We had lunch with family here for the first time as Shibam, this location was formerly an Italian restaurant. We didn't have a reservation but just walked in and weee able to seat ourselves. Great menu - all of your favorite items you would expect from a Mediterranean cafe. The hummus was creamy and the fresh fire grilled bread excellent. I ordered the Ghallaba which was delicious and from what I heard around the table, the falafel was great as well. I asked for a side of garlic sauce and it will be with me awhile... but awesome. We finished with rice pudding a little different than I'm used to but we'll spiced Overall a good experience that would make me want to come back! read more

Came here with my siblings for lunch and was not disappointed. The inside is cute, the food is very tasty, and the service was awesome. Lisa was our waitress, and she was amazing. Walked in and felt like an immediate burden to the staff. Place was empty and staff was watching videos on their phone with the volume up and eating food around the dining room. This was a big miss for me for our to-go orders. I ordered the tabouli and hummus wrap. My wrap didn't have any hummus. The lentil soup was the worst I have ever had. I ordered a lamb gyro for my mom. It was the sloppiest and most ugly presentation. No love was put into that meal. The lamb was hard and burnt. Who serves that? It did not look appetizing at all. Was really excited to try this restaurant, but it was a one and done for me. The restaurant was dead- one other couple came in while I was in there, for a total of 2 tables of customers. The service was extremely slow, our waitress was sweet but absolutely no sense of urgency. When we walked in there was 3 male workers eating sandwiches and didn't greet us- we had to greet them- they then told us to sit anywhere we wanted. This is a brand new local business- it seems they'd be more excited and eager to greet & seat their customers. The lunch & sandwich prices were fine, but the side options were over priced. $3.99 for a "cup" of toom (garlic sauce). $4.99 for a side of fries... really? Kids meal $9? Yeah ok. Most Mediterranean restaurants have complimentary toom, and I thought for $4 it'd be big enough to share with the entire table- but I was wrong. My friend got the lunch falafel & hummus and it didn't even come with bread... what was she to do with half a plate of hummus and no bread? They forgot her side order of rice that came with her meal- and she had to ask twice for it to be brought out. By the time it came she was basically done eating. What frustrates me the most is the charge for WATER. We had 3 adult waters & 1 kid size water brought to us, and when we asked for a refill the waitress brought out a bottle of water. We said we just wanted tap water but she informed us they serve bottle water due to a boil advisory. The boil advisory was in the city of Flint, not Flushing. So to my surprise we were charged $3.00 for water. This should've been communicated to us at the beginning of the meal, because who expects to pay for water especially when it was initially brought out in a regular glass with ice. Super irritating and ridiculous. The food itself was good, but nothing special. Definitely not the best Mediterranean food the area has to offer. I don't think this place will last if it continues to be like this. I've seen some raving reviews; and I think it's just people wanting to support a local business. I'm all about supporting local, but let's not boast if it's not deserved. There was about 7-9 workers in the place, yet service was slower than a snail stuck in molasses. read more

I will preface this review with I want every restaurant in Flushing to survive. We tried Shibam tonight for takeout for the first time. I called in the order and was quoted 25min for food for 3ppl. My son ran to get the food and after a 65min from ordering wait, he was on his way home. I get it, kitchens get backed up due to unforeseen reasons, but our food sat within his sight for 40min waiting on the 2 orders of bread we ordered. The food was definitely tasty, but after sitting on the shelf for as long as it was, the only warm item of the meal was the bread. The kicker was after waiting as long as he did, they forgot 1 cup of soup that we ordered. The manager said they could not give a discount for waiting as long as he did, but could give him a free order of hummus. Not sure when we will try again, but hoping that they learn some customer service for making people wait over 2x the quoted time with the mains getting cold in front of the customer. read more

My wife and I have been here a few times now and we love it! The food is excellent and the service is wonderful. We met the owner on our last visit and he was very nice. Their bread here is some of the best I have had! We have tried a few of their dishes, and have not been disappointed by any of them. My wife loves the Lamb Haneeth! The service and food went down hill fast. The majority of the staff seem racist against white people and the quality of food and service often reflect that. I've been a frequent guest since thy opened. The owner has been a stand up guy, but I cannot ever return to a place that has so many issues with being racist. Service is horrible. We walked in and there was a sign that says "Please Seat yourself". My wife and I talked about where we wanted to sit and chose a table. After I had taken off my coat and sat down, a waitress came to me and told me, "You can't sit down yet. We are on a 15 minute wait". I pointed out the sign that says to seat yourself and she said, "Yeah, I'll go change that now", but she still made us get up from the table and go back to the waiting area. read more

We enjoyed a wonderful meal at Shibam on a busy Friday evening. Our first impression was that the restaurant is clean and well looked after. We were told upon entering to choose where we wanted to sit - and were quickly greeted by a waitress at our table. All of our meals were delicious - Turkish coffee at the end was beautifully presented and memorable. The meal was not without a few minor bumps - nothing we haven't experienced in other restaurants - but all were handled graciously and without delay. We all agreed that this was one of the best meals we've had locally - ever. The waitstaff was friendly and enthusiastic and informed. We were told several times that the restaurant was still in its preparatory phase - istill in the midst of its soft open - and were offered glimpses of good things to come. We sat quite a while at our table before even being acknowledged, to be greeted, or given a menu. After ordering, it took just under ONE HOUR to get our food. One dinner very disappointing with a few chunks of meat on a bed of rice (we waited an hour for this????) That meal was refused and I just wanted mine boxed to go. After the manager took my food to be boxed and never returned, we walked out. Manager had said they had a lot of to go orders to fill. I would give zero stars if I could. Ordered take-out, wasn't ready when I got there, but ok. I can forgive that. Got the food home and the order was COMPLETELY wrong. I called and told them what happened and that I was bringing the food back for an exchange for the correct food. When I arrived he looked at the food and I said exactly what the order was suppose to be. "It'll be two minutes". Twenty minutes later, he gives me the wrong order AGAIN! After being ignored for another twenty minutes, I FINALLY get the correct order. No sorry, no discount, nothing! To top it off, the food wasn't even that great. Don't waste your time.
