I went to Reckless on a mission. I'd tested many colors on the walls of my office, found the…read moreperfect shade of gray and was subsequently disappointed by the paint quality. The sample was thin, clumpy and just of poor quality. Being an inexperienced painter in the digital age, I turned to online reviews for recommendations for high quality paint. Enter Reckless Paint, one of the only Benjamin Moore paint suppliers in the Durham/Chapel Hill area. If you're looking for an old-school, friendly paint shop, this is the place to go. The staff was knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. The owner helped me decide which type of paint I needed, matched the color perfectly to the sample I'd loved and made sure that I purchased the right amount of paint. They did mistakenly make an eggshell instead of a matte finish. I wasn't picky and could have been easily convinced that eggshell was a better option. They didn't push a 'well, eggshell is superior' sale on me. Instead, they profusely apologized and gave me a 50% discount! That's customer service. I hadn't expected anything like that (and to be honest, was completely fine with the eggshell after they showed me the eggshell paint on their walls and gave me instructions on how I should use the paint). They carried multiple types of paint (I bought and loved the low VOC Devine paint...no priming and I only needed 1 coat to cover brown walls). I also saw paint supplies- rollers, brushes, drop cloths, etc and stains for wood. When the urge to change the colors of my walls strikes again, I'll definitely return to Reckless. I'd highly recommend to anyone looking for quality paint and service.

Manager Carol and Assistant Mgr Theresa were extremely helpful and friendly. There seems to be a good supply of quality products and supplies on hand to cover most of your painting requirements I'm a big fan of Benjamin Moore paints which I've used for about 30 years. I'm particularly impressed with the durable "Advance" paint for bookshelves, mantles, furniture, doors, trim etc. It's like an oil based paint with water cleanup and has high blocking resistance so things don't stick to it after the paint has dried. I'll be back for sure.

Some Jewish men stereotypes are that we are good providers but not good athletes. We are clever but…read morenot handy. I have to laugh at all of that because in my case it's true! What's even more scary is that I was considered the handy one in my family. I knew how to change a light bulb and water a plant and put together a model with glue and paint. That's how low the bar was set in my family! My grandfather on the other hand contradicted the stereotype. He was an incredibly successful plumber and incredibly handy. I even remember when I was a young starving actor in New York living on the Upper East side, he installed a shower in my bathtub which sat in the middle of my kitchen! He then installed a shower curtain holder so I could have privacy showering while my roommate was sitting right there having coffee with his girlfriend. You cannot make this stuff up! Which brings me to Lowe's. I like Lowe's. Anything I can possibly want for my home is there. I also appreciate that there are many locations in that there have been times when I wanted something and it was not in that store and they were very accommodating to send me to another store and put it on hold or get it sent to their store for me. Plenty of variety, plenty to choose from and thank God for the people that work there because I have absolutely no clue! When I walk into Lowe's I feel like I am a bull in a China shop. I wish I had the talent to build a table or retile my floor or paint my kitchen a new color or replace the ceiling fan or build a rose garden. Reality is, I'm better off working hard and earning a little extra money and paying some talented person to do that for me. I take my hat off to the men and women that file into Lowe's and leave with all these raw materials to build something beautiful with their own hands. That amazes me! I may not be the handiest guy in the world, but I appreciate a store well stocked with good staff and is understanding of someone like me with little knowledge and little ability! I thrive in the garden department and panic at the sight of a pipe or a piece of lumber. But, when all is said and done.... I really like like Lowe's!
