Wandering Lark is a local Burlington gem, and I can't believe that I am first to review them! If…read moreyou like candles or know someone who does and you enjoy supporting small women-owned businesses, please check out their storefront or shop their products via their website. They also carry their candles in a number of gift shops throughout the US . Wandering Lark is run by two inspiring women - Laura and Julie. I have had the pleasure of speaking with Laura on several occasions and she is the sweetest, most genuine individual and truly made me feel like a friend and neighbor. Being new to the area, her warmth and inviting nature made me feel more at home. Perhaps most importantly, Wandering Lark's small-batch, hand-poured soy candles are amazing! They use all American grown soy wax, cotton wicks, and high-quality phthalate-free fragrances. I've bought several of their classic jars which are made of beautiful blue glass and feature signature brown labels with their hand-drawn designs, as well as a few travel tins. In addition to the classic jars, every moth they feature a special jar that is only available for a limited time - often these jars are collaborations with local potters. Now I am fairly picky when it comes to fragrances, yet I have liked practically all of the Wandering Lark scents I've smelled (all 30+)! In addition to their bestselling scents, they feature seasonal fragrances. I'm not exaggerating when I say that I wanted to buy every single Fall and Winter fragrance they offer. Visiting the storefront studio is a great way to test out fragrances before purchasing, but you can also sign up for their email newsletter, which not only gets you exclusive coupon codes and early access to their monthly jars, but also allows you to enter their drawing to become a candle tester. I was fortunate to get chosen to be a candle tester last holiday season, and it was such a treat to get several travel size candles in the mail to review. During COVID-19, their storefront has limited hours, so I recommend checking for the latest hours on their website or contacting them via Instagram or Facebook (they are very active on social media and are quick to respond to messages). When things are back to normal, they plan on hosting candle making workshops in their studio and I can't wait to attend. I am a big fan and hope you'll check them out!

I like fragrance or more importantly, I know what I don't like so to be immersed in an experience with fragrance experts and not feel overwhelmed was a great time. We worked with Sacha who was very honest about our blends, gave good feedback, and was a good source of encouragement. You have the ability to create 3 different versions of your scent and choose what most feels like you. You can also save your scent for future use. I liked that added benefit. I am always curious as to how brands like these manage to keep their momentum as it sometimes feels like something you do once but I would definitely come again to create other products. They offer candles too as well as you can purchase premade scents. I feel like the price was very reasonable compared to other similar experiences. Definitely a must visit for a date night, girls night out, or just a relaxing end to a stressful day!

Bright black offers the perfume Workshop every Saturday from 11-5 - walk in only. We got there a little before noon, and we were able to get seated right away. The staff was super friendly and explained each part of the process. There were tons of scents to choose from to create your own perfume oil. It was $35 per person which I didn't think was bad at all! They also sell car air fresheners, lotions, and candles. Most of the fragrances of the candles have a story or meaning behind them which I thought was pretty neat! Apparently next month, they will be offering larger, alcohol based perfume workshop options. When you're done, you have the option to log your scent so that you can have it made again or even have it made into candles which is cool! I really enjoyed my visit to Bright Black and would definitely recommend visiting if in the Raleigh/Durham areas

I spent a lot of time there because I knew I was going to make a purchase. I chose one of the off-brand scents and one name brand. I wasn't 100% happy with my choices, but the staff there doesn't hide their annoyance and frustration with customers well, at all. I asked would I be able to bring the scent back if I didn't like it and the blonde woman said yes, as long as the package wasn't opened and I had my receipt. (THESE WERE THE ONLY SPECIFICATIONS I WAS TOLD) When I came back to make my exchange I heard, "I told y'all, didn't I tell y'all it was going to happen?" It came from the direction of the blonde haired woman. I looked right at her and said hello and she gave me a fake smile and said hello. She then told me that she couldn't do the exchange because I didn't bring both scents back. And that she would get it trouble if she did an exchange for one scent. I was never told that. That is misleading, sneaky, and seemed calculated. We were planning to come there for all of our future perfume needs, but that type of stuff is not cool.
