Bottom Line: Quality paints and consistently great service…read more I've been going to McCormick Paints in Annapolis for the past seven-plus years and I've always had a good experience with them and their paints. Originally I went to McCormick to match the paint that was used by my builder but McCormick's friendly customer service and great quality paints keeps me returning. I think it also helped that they gave me a fan deck (thank you!) on my first visit which I still use. I've used many gallons of their paints. I've also used a variety of their products and I've only had one issue - a low VOC paint that skunked. Indoors I've used 1st Step primer, Total Advantage and Revo on my walls and Advantage (now discontinued) and Revo on my trim. Outdoors I've used the State House exterior paint. When I had to paint metal railings outside I trusted their Interlock Direct to Metal paint. All of these paints went on easily and have held up great. As a bonus, they sell caulk in their standard paint trim colors like White Shadow and Cool Platinum which is super helpful!

When I tried to use them, they were both the consistency of paste and completely unuseful. And of course because of the paint brand the nearest store was at least an hour away. Since we were driving to Pennsylvania anyway, decided to stop at Annapolis and get some new paint. Joel at McCormick paints listened to my story and told me that he was going to replace the paint for free. As he put it, you shouldn't have to pay for something you were going to get anyway. I really appreciate that business model and these guys have made a customer for life. Thank you Joel!

I initially thought he was just friendly. When I was in line waiting for my turn, I heard him loudly talking to the Mexican man in front of me. Brandon asked him if he was a Patriots fan because the of the man's hat. Before the man could answer, Brandon started talking about how he doesn't watch football anymore because they don't stand for the national anthem. No one responded or fed into his attempt at debate. Brandon looked at me and said that im probably a Raven's fan. I thought it was odd because I had on a Washington hat. I simply responded, "No i'm a Washington fan. " I did not bring up the mascot because I didn't want to argue. When I pulled up to the store , I saw a small inexpensive white or light gray pick up truck with a huge confederate flag hanging on the back of it and numerous confederate bumper stickers on the front of it. After 30 minutes of shopping it was still there. I was loading my things in my suv when I saw someone that I knew, so I stopped to talk for a few. While we were talking, Brandon came outside, got in his truck and moved it from the parking spot that he was initially in on the side to a parking spot right beside us. The person that I was talking to asked me, "What's up with him?" I told them that he just wants attention. He was trying to get a rise out of the Mexican guy and now he's trying to antagonize us. We ignored him as he sat in his car and stared at us until we left. Brandon definitely seems like an extremest!! He's definitely in need of attention. He's definitely looking for an altercation!!! It makes me wondering how many other blacks and Hispanics has he done this to??

Even after I stopped working in the area, I kept going there: where else were you going to find such a great hardware or paint store? So what happened? The last time we went there to buy paint, the employee was unenthusiastic and unfriendly. So we gave it another try this weekend. I walked up to the paint counter. Two employees were having a problem with one of the paint machines, which one of them didn't seem to know how to use very well. I stood there for quite a while. They ignored me. I eventually asked the more experienced-seeming employee if it made sense for me to wait, or if they would be a long time. He launched into an explanation of how he needed to log in. I didn't think that was relevant, and asked again whether waiting made sense. He said yes, it made sense to wait. I stood there a while longer. I asked the same employee how long it would be. He stared at me. I asked if it would be more like 5 minutes or 15 minutes, or some other amount of time. He said it would be at least 15 minutes. I said that he should have told me that a long time ago. He started explaining again about needing to log in. I still didn't care, and explained that it was terrible customer service. Then we left and went to Monarch on Connecticut Ave, where they had excellent customer service. What on earth has happened to Frager's?
