Apparently, according to the Benjamin Moore dealer at Miller Paint and Decorating, no house has ever been painted yellow on the outside, because it will fade or require multiple coats so they can't even give me samples of any yellow color for an exterior job. Which is really weird, since the Benjamin Moore website seems to say the exact opposite, even has a color picker for my exterior color. And also because I got yellow colors from three other paint stores/suppliers, meant for exterior paint. But no, I'm probably wrong about this because the dude at the counter said he was darn sorry I just can't paint my house yellow with Benjamin Moore colors. Going to go to another Benjamin Moore dealer shortly to find out whether it's a franchised craziness or just individual lunkheadedness associated with this store, but I shan't bother coming back here, at least not until they invent the color yellow again.

Yes the paint is expensive but once I came in buying what must have been my 20th gallon on paint Bill started giving me the contractors discount making the price a little easier to swallow. They've also made helpful suggestions and given us advice as we've tackled different problems. You will love the paint and hopefully Bill will be as good to you as he's been to me.

Today I had a need for a very small amount of paint. All I had was a now discontinued model number of the paint I needed. I expected that it might be difficult to make a match. Not so at all! Joseph was able to find an exact match in the Sherwin Williams computer system. I had told Joseph I only needed a small amount for some touch up work. Did Joseph try to up sell me to a gallon? No! He asked if a quart would be sufficient for my needs and - it was. I liked that, although Joseph could have made more money on the sale by just assuming I would purchase a gallon, he didn't do that. He LISTENED to and heard my need and responded appropriately. So, Joseph was a major asset to his company in terms of putting a customer's needs above a (legitimate) desire to make a bigger sale. Sherwin Williams offers superior product and, in Joseph, has a superstar representative.

Hello, Sherwin-Williams. The location closest to us is pretty convenient -- right in the middle of 20 Mall on Western. As timing would have it, they were having a 30% off sale on all paints. We selected a few colors, grabbed some primer, some rollers, and brushes. Adam, the employee who was there each of the four times I went back that week (either for another can of paint or for additional supplies), was very helpful. We told him what we were doing, and he told us what kinds of paints would work best. I got very familiar with the little container full of Starbursts on the counter. There were only yellows left by the end of the week. In the past, I've gotten paint at Home Depot or Lowes, but going to a dedicated, paint-only store is nice. The price was right (especially with that sweet 30% off sale). I'm not saying that I enjoy painting. In fact, this may have been one of the most miserable two-week stretches of my entire life. But S-W made it a little more bearable.

Response to business manager about my earlier 1 star review…read more 1 My wife called store and they stated we could return the item and then we were not allowed to return it. 2 We went to a different store and they accepted our item, so the Colonie store was lying they could not take it. 3 I called the Wynantskill store who stated we could return it there. The first sales associate said we could not return it, so we had to take it an extra step to return the item. So in summary, you actually deserve no stars.

True, if you want plywood or dimensional lumber or other large things you can't get it here. I needed spray paint and was driving by so I stopped in. I was surprised by the interior choices... it looked like a warehouse-turned-hardware store (much like HD or Lowes), and I was used to other smaller stores like Ace or True Value which are set up more like regular retail stores. But, I found what I needed quickly and was out the door in under five minutes. The guy behind the counter was friendly enough.

I researched some low VOC paints and turns out Sherwin Williams sells a good one (their Duration line). That's about as much as I knew when I went in. The sales person Lynn gave some really useful input about the color choices I was considering and sheen level - without being pushy. And i got 30% off because they were having a Labor Day sale. Anyway I was really pleased with the final selection and professionalism at this store and will probably go here for all my paint needs upstate. Ask for Lynn - she was awesome.
