Apparently, according to the Benjamin Moore dealer at Miller Paint and Decorating, no house has ever been painted yellow on the outside, because it will fade or require multiple coats so they can't even give me samples of any yellow color for an exterior job. Which is really weird, since the Benjamin Moore website seems to say the exact opposite, even has a color picker for my exterior color. And also because I got yellow colors from three other paint stores/suppliers, meant for exterior paint. But no, I'm probably wrong about this because the dude at the counter said he was darn sorry I just can't paint my house yellow with Benjamin Moore colors. Going to go to another Benjamin Moore dealer shortly to find out whether it's a franchised craziness or just individual lunkheadedness associated with this store, but I shan't bother coming back here, at least not until they invent the color yellow again.

They've also made helpful suggestions and given us advice as we've tackled different problems. You will love the paint and hopefully Bill will be as good to you as he's been to me.

When the blinds arrive Ryan came to install them and he couldn't have been more friendly and professional. The blinds look gorgeous! My grandchildren were visiting this pasted weekend and, unfortunately, broke one of the blinds. I call Caligari's thinking I would have to purchase a new blind but they informed me that it might be able to be repaired. I scheduled a service call and it was Ryan who came again; I was so glad. He was able to fix the blind right away! For just the cost of a service call the blind is working again! He let me know that he isn't always able to fix blinds on site sometime they need to be sent out for repair, but if he can fix them, he does. So nice! The blinds are pricy but, in my option, worth every penny. Beth P.

Had a carpet installed today. The installer was rude and unfriendly. What was worse, he refused to put on a mask, claiming he had asthma and couldn't breathe in one. Only when I phoned the store, did he put one on and even then he was rude about it. I spoke to someone at the store who said that only Kaitlyn could deal with this and they would contact her right away. But no one called me back. Atrocious customer service, and you're paying top dollar for the carpeting to boot.

It's not the only paint-only specialist left out there, but it's certainly the biggest and the company with the most experience, collectively. I can't attest to the relative quality of paints vs. competitors because you'd have to paint a lot of rooms and houses before doing that; but you can get almost any color at any paint outlet now with computerized mixing and color-matching. The prices here seem high but are competitive if you wait for the discount windows, particularly if you wait for the 30-40% off sales that don't occur at the big box stores. Large volume orders, you can negotiate a little discount. What distinguishes the S-W locations is that they know their painting. It's not that I haven't slapped a gazillion coats on various things over the years, I still need a little help with what's really necessary or how to use this that or the other, with painting projects coming at infrequent intervals, and it's absolutely clear they know their stuff much better than the random guy on the paint counter at Lowe's or Home Depot. This location is just off 7 on State, at the edge of the Woodlawn neighborhood, and the local staff knowledge includes experience with older houses and surfaces. I'll repost when my big project is over and let you know how it turned out, but "worth the side trip" adequately describes my experience thus far.

The prices were a little more than the big box stores but it is family owned, local, and has everything we needed for home repairs/upgrades. They have two locations, Canton and West Hartford. They offer paint recycling. If they don't have the product in stock, they will order it for you since they are affiliated with the Ace Hardware warehouse; the warehouse carries over 80,000 items. They offer many services in-house such as key cutting and propane fills. When you join the Ace Rewards, you can earn rewards with every purchase. Overall, a great asset for the community.
