A good deal and a nice range. No real fancy but a good solid range. Check it out and you won't be disappointed.

I recently went to River's Edge Tactical for the first time, and I was very happy with the range…read moreand my experience there. I have been shooting now for a couple of decades, and this is one of the nicest ranges I have ever been to. River's Edge Tactical (RET) is the newest range that I know of in my area. RET is located on the corner of 252 (Columbia Road) and 303 (Center Road) with the entrance off of Columbia Road. This facility has a large retail space, rifle-rated range space, and a classroom for training courses. One of the best things about RET is they allow customers to bring in their own rifle ammo. The ammo is inspected to ensure it's not AP or has a penetrator core, but this saves the customer from buying overpriced frangible ammo. After signing in and being briefed on how to use the electronic target system, I went through the doors and into the range area. The range was clean and well-lit, though a bit warm temperature-wise. I usually wear a long-sleeve t-shirt since most ranges have fans blowing cool air (which helps keep the shooters cool, circulates gases in the air to help visibility, and minimizes inhaling gases from the firearms). There was airflow to help with the visibility and inhalation issues, but the airflow was pretty warm. It's a minor detail, but if you are like me and typically wear a shirt with longer sleeves, you might want to wear something short-sleeved when visiting RET. The electronic targets were turned off, and I was instructed by the staff to give them a "thumbs up" when I was ready so I would get the full 60 minutes I paid for. Once power to the targets was turned on, the electronic targets were at my command. The targets move out to a maximum of 75 feet. Each stall has plenty of space for you, your firearms, and your equipment (range bag, magazines, etc.). They even have a chair available if you wanted to rest your firearm or elbows on your lane's table. When I was done shooting, I went back into the retail area to pay for my range time. I spoke with the range staff for a while about different pistols, shotguns, rifles, ammunition, and optics, and I was impressed with their general firearms knowledge. They have the ability to order items for customers (firearms, ammunition, etc.), and they had several silencers on hand available for rental. The staff had a good sense of humor and created a welcoming environment. If you are in the area, I highly recommend this range. Its state-of-the-art equipment is some of the best I've ever used, and the range staff are some of the most professional and personable I've dealt with.

Stopped in while visiting from out of town. The staff was very friendly and answered some of my…read morequestions about educational classes and suppressors. I didn't need anything but I picked up a few magazines just because the staff was so friendly. Looking forward to my visit next year. The prices seemed fair.

As a woman I was a little worried about finding a class that would help me learn to shoot and get…read morecomfortable with a firearm without being completely intimidated. My brother suggested Civilian Defense Academy and I have been thrilled with them. In February I started with the Learn to Shoot class and absolutely loved it. They keep the classes small and only work with a few people at a time during the range portion. That was fantastic because James was right there to watch everything I was doing as I was loading and shooting the various firearms he provided for practice. He was there to answer all of my questions and offer suggestions on improving my form and accuracy. Yesterday I attended the Concealed Carry course to get my license. James and Bruce are very knowledgeable and put everyone at ease right from the beginning. They make it fun and really interesting while still being very professional and making sure to stress the importance of safety - for you and everyone around you. The idea of sitting in a 10 hour class about firearm safety, mechanics, use, ammunition, maintenance and legal responsibilities sounded a little daunting but I had a great time. They made it so interesting that it seemed to take no time at all. Even the seasoned hunters in the class said they learned a lot and everyone in the class seemed to really enjoy themselves. I would not hesitate to recommend CDA to ANYONE looking to get their Concealed Carry License or simply looking to get comfortable with using a firearm. I feel much safer and more confident moving forward having taken these courses.

Both James and Bruce are very knowledgeable and make your learning experience priority one while still keeping it fun. Nice, small class size. It seriously was the fastest 10 hour class ever! We were not done until we finished the written test and everyone was confident in what they learned. I will continue to suggest Civilian Defense Academy for CCW training as well as beginner shooting instruction!

I had been in the shop for parts and pricing on fire arms in the past. On my last visit I asked…read moreTodd about CCW training and he told me he was putting together a class soon. I checked the website and signed up and told a neighbor who signed up as well. The class was pretty much an all day deal with the first half being in a classroom setting and the second half on a private range followed by a wrap up session back at the classroom. I really liked that 1) Safety is the number one priority. 2) No one was made to feel "stupid" based on a question asked and 3) at the range, attention was given based on their needs. Everyone was given helpful pointers and advice to improve or correct the handling of their firearm. Todd and his staff know their stuff and take the time to fully explain the the laws and rights of a licensed CCW permit holder. After the wrap up, there were several students who wanted to cover how to break down and clean a firearm, although this is not part of the training Todd stayed and demonstrated the process and answered any additional questions anyone had. If you are on the fence or considering CCW training, don't look any further. This is the place for you!
