Stayed at the Anchorage Sheraton the week of March 23rd through the 29th. Was in room 829 and it could certainly use an update on EVERYTHING! The shower head was loose and falling down, water pressure was a joke. The only saving grace was the front desk staff, they did an amazing job with want they had. I had a great staycation in one of the Sheraton Suites on level 14. The room was clean, updated, spacious, and had an amazing view! I was looking for more modern accommodations (versus the captain cook hotel we usually stay) and was really happy with our choice. The area of downtown that it is located is moderately seedy, but then again literally everywhere in Anchorage feels like the same level of seediness. We didn't have any issues whatsoever with service. Doors were opened for us, staff were friendly when called upon, and I had an excellent drink and bite to eat at the bar restaurant and a lovely chat with their bartender. She was such a treat to small talk with! The only downside was how hot it was in the room. I prefer a very cold room with fresh air. The windows cracked open but wouldn't stay open. They had fans in the room but it was still quite hot for me. They could also use a floor length mirror somewhere in the room. We didn't attend their breakfast, we walked to the best brunch spot in town, Palmeria, and I recommend you to do the same if you stay here! read more

Not up to the Sheraton standard, except the restaurant. I'm a road warrior of nearly 2,000 night stays at SPG, then Bonvoy properties over a decade. Mgmt needs to do a btter job here. The place was married by poor service everywhere else. 1. The front desk on check in wasn't friendly, didn't recognize my titanium elite status and give us a generic room, rather than one with an upgrade with a bit more room on a higher floor. 2. The club was dirty during the regular breakfast hours with the single service staff running around to various needs. For example, the clean utensils weren't setup properly and thrown in a heap on one of the side tables. Food items weren't replenished. Tables weren't cleaned after use. Perhaps there is too much demand for the size of the space and staff. No wine was available to be ordered in the evening. Fix that! 3. Front desk staff was asked early in the morning to help secure a taxi and could only be bothered to say he couldn't help. 4. Weird security policies. I understand needing to note guest room numbers as they enter the restaurant, you don't need to setup an obstructing line with three signs. Also, the back door (from 5th avenue) is locked and requires a card key. I get this for evening hours but daytime too is silly. The strangest is the bartending staff is required to walk an ordered drink to the elevator, if you want to take it to the room. Awkward. 5. Parking. You really feel the need to charge for something that doesn't look like it has any security? Idea: waive for platinum and above members. read more

I stood here for a weekend getaway and was actually surprised at how nice it was inside. The surrounding area is not the best but I've always wondered how the interior was. The lobby is very beautiful and glamorous. The place is guarded like the White House. So many security guards in the entrance which was reassuring. Staff was so hospitable and polite. I recommend parking in the garage than the parking lot just so your car is not out in the open. But the view was pretty great from our room. No weird smells. read more

Don't let the name fool you. Tiny rooms, heater that doesn't work, paid parking required and across the street this is a stay you'll want to forget. You do get a pillow top mattress and scented soaps. The staff is as warm as the ice outside. Please change your name to motel 6 or something of the sort so people know what they are walking into. read more

The restaurant is grossly understaffed. Problem areas were the taste of food and service. Halibut was great on day 1 but the world famous clam chowder, shrimp scampi, and the broccolini were sub-par, day 2. Terrible service all around, though the lady at bar was trying to cater to everyone (about 15 people) single-handedly. Felt bad for her running around and trying to make guests feel welcomed but the hotel leadership needs to do something. This is just not fun and relaxing.. read more

Hotel bar was crazy. Totally understand. Cruise season but staff was overwhelmed due to not enough. They were trying their best. Was told an hour or more for food. Ok. Cheese cake. Still an hour? This was my base for a 4-day business trip to Anchorage last week. Always enjoy the experience in Anchorage, particularly in winter, as it is beautiful. The only things preventing a 5th star are the lack of the Bonvoy Concierge lounge (means someone isn't drawing a paycheck while it is closed) and the limited 7 AM - 5 PM hours for the workout room (many people are working during those hours). Otherwise, there is a fairly extensive market pantry room for food, and they offered breakfast and coffee service in the lobby. There were also several room service delivery options available. Unlimited Starbucks coffee packets for the room were also critical for someone whose body remained on ET during the visit. The front desk staff were all cheerful and helpful, and the location is extremely convenient to all of my meetings in and around town, and the parking across the street from the front door is super convenient. I'll be back on my next visit. read more

We spent the last night of our honeymoon at the Sheraton in Anchorage. It was an average room for the price and location. Most of the restaurants and other amenities were closed due to COVID-19. The staff were friendly and offered suggestions for places to eat around the hotel. I believe parking was supposed to be $15 a day but due to COVID-19 and it being the off-season for tourism, I don't think they charged us. The room was clean and simple. The bed was large and fairly comfy. The sheets were not scratchy but the pillows fell flat. There was good water pressure in the shower and a nice large mirror with good lighting. read more

The rooms are dated. Stayed 3 nights. The room straightening was not consistent. One day, it was never touched. The entrance of the building has broken bricks and is not appealing. The rooms are dated and small. We requested 2 beds but got one king instead. Does not measure up to a Marriot property. read more

Excellent hotel accommodations. The bed and sitting areas were great. We had a Suite, so, of course the room had a great panoramic view. Housekeeping on the 12th floor should be commended. Excellent job. A few things marred an otherwise amazing stay: the Rude and catty Russian girls who work the bar. After seeing them in action, or inaction, I question their necessity. Same with some of the desk crew. Most were great, but some must have been hired on the family plan. Other than that, it was a basic stay. Nothing special or exceptional-- Quite average. read more

Stayed for the night twice (a week apart) on the way out and back from a week of camping and fishing in the Alaska outback. It's a national chain owned by Marriott so how high should our expectations be? Here's a few pluses: Greeted warmly first visit and offered a map and directions to a bar and restaurants, excellent bell service handling our many bags and gear on both visits, and a good, clean, quiet room with a clean bathroom. Why a 3 out of 5...on our second visit we arrived at 2:35 pm and were slam dunked on getting into a room before 4 pm...hard "No!" without checking with housekeeping. No bar or restaurant in the hotel open until 5 so we left our bags with the bellman and made our way over to the Polar Bar (fun friendly and divey) across the street. Second...it's got the title in it's name of "& Spa" and there's not a spa! Apparently the spa was closed for Covid and never reopened...but I reserved here and stayed in Anchorage an extra night to relax and get a couple's massage for me and my partner after our week in the outback. It's been 3 years since Covid so don't you think it's time enough to delete the "& Spa" on the web? Hey...it's a Sheraton so it's reliable and not bad...but c'mon and get it together on the details! read more

For the first time since 2003, I decided to try a different hotel in Anchorage. I had/have three business trips planned this month. So, I booked first at the Sheraton and the other two at the Marriott downtown. I checked out of the Sheraton early and cancelled my other two bookings. I'm not going to go on a long rant as to why, but will say I was disappointed in how I was treated by ONE individual on staff. Enough so to make me rethink lodging as a Bonvoy Elite member in any Anchorage properties. read more

There aren't a lot of major hotels in downtown Anchorage and this was the only Starwood property. We chose it for the SPG rewards alone. It's a dated hotel without many amenities nearby, slow elevators and old decor. It's a 15 minute walk to downtown, which isn't terrible, but the Hilton is much more centrally located. Parking is in a few big lots and is not free. The room was comfortable enough. The air conditioner never worked well so the room was always warm. The bed was fine but the pillows were terrible. The club floor has a lounge with breakfast in the morning and beverages and some snacks that get decimated quickly, I assume by the cruise crowd. The bottom floor has a small snack shop, the Ptarmigan bar and Jade steak and seafood. I rarely saw anyone eating or drinking in either location except for breakfast at Jade in the morning. Overall, this isn't a bad choice for Anchorage, but I've been to much nicer properties elsewhere. read more

Restaurant had nice ambiance and wasn't too noisy. The wines were good but food was just so-so. The seafood chowder was just ok, as was the Cobb salad that should have just been called, salad. The two entrees came out 10 minutes apart, which wasn't good. Recommend the place more for quiet, expensive drinking instead of eating. read more

This hotel is middle range with neither significant positives or negatives to convey. It is by no means a run down but also not by any means recently updated. It could use a bit of a facelift and the rooms would benefit from a refresh. I also noticed a fair amount of sound coming from the street as windows lack any degree of sound insulation. Climate control within the room was adequate. The hotel itself is safe and secure and food is available via room service but not directly at the restaurant. It's proximity to other restaurants is adequate and a number of locales are within walking distance. The staff here is cordial and courteous. All else checks out here and I would recommend this hotel for shorter stays. read more

Comfortable and quiet hotel. City and port view from 9th floor and can watch airplanes taking off in the distance. By a large lush park/ cemetery very spread out and not like cemeteries in California. Flowers around buildings and homes are abundant and huge because of long summer daylight. It's Sunday so very lite traffic, not like our Bay Area. Close to major museum which is closed Sunday morning. 15 minute walk to Visiter Center. Hotel staff and restaurant people friendly and helpful. Food is a little pricey but very good. Breakfast buffet on weekends. Noticed a few seedy people around the area, but hotel had lots of visible security people. Abundant fur and ice cream establishments. Take city trolley tour from Visiter Center for$20 about one hour in length. Classy hotel and would stay here again. read more

If you are staying in Anchorage the Sheraton is the only place to stay! They are usually pretty full so make your reservations early. The restaurant is top notch, I loved how the bar was set, a traditional bar with high but also a relaxing sitting area perfect for after work debriefs. All that said it is the staff that make this hotel so special, I have never met a friendlier more accommodating group of people at any hotel. It's a nice looking hotel, clean rooms, comfy beds and centrally located in anchorage. But unlike most hotels I've stayed recently, they go out of their way to charge you for the little things. Breakfast is $28 and there's not even complementary coffee in the morning. They have free hot water and hot coco in the afternoon, but it seems they really want to make a few extra bucks selling four dollar coffees despite charging several hundred dollars a night. When will managers understand the little things matter! read more

Had a phenomenal experience during my stay at the Sheraton Anchorage! The General Manager, Colin, and his staff made sure that my special occassion exceeded expectations. Prior to arrival, I spoke with Colin on the phone to tell him about flying family up from Texas for a marriage proposal. He welcomed us in-person and gave us a complimentary room upgrade to the Luxury Suite (see photos of the room, view, etc.). He LITERALLY rolled out the red carpet treatment- including champagne, chocolate-covered strawberries, and more for my fiancee. The concierge was great in helping us decide on fun things to do in the area, and the hotel restaurant, bar, and club lounge were all first rate. I appreciate everyone's assistance in dealing with a large crowd and some very complicated room reservations. The best thing about this hotel is its location! It's right down the street (literally walking distance- from great restaurants, sightseeing opportunities, and hiking trails). If you're planning to visit Anchorage, I'd highly recommend this spot. I rarely leave negative reviews for places since everyone has their off days and one visit isn't always enough to get an idea of how good a business is. This is not one of those cases. This is my first and last time staying at the Sheraton Anchorage, or any Starwoods hotel for that matter. The general manager of all people was very rude to me and the room wasn't fully cleaned when I checked in. I stayed at the Sheraton for two nights over New Year's. I saw some specials on their website, among them a 25% discount for Alaska residents. Being an Alaska resident, I clicked on the offer, expecting to get a 25% discount when I booked my reservation. The reservation confirmation email showed that the discount was not applied. Turns out you have to copy a code and enter it in the designated field at checkout. I take responsibility for that for not having been more careful booking my reservation, although I wish they made that more clear on their website. The response I received was what shocked me. First I called the hotel and asked if the discount could be applied. He told me no because I had booked the prepaid option. So I decided to email the general manager, Mr. Colin McBeath, who replied with only "Let me look into this right away". The night before I was supposed to check out I hadn't heard from him so I emailed him again. Shortly afterward, I received a very flat reply from another employee who basically just regurgitated the information in my confirmation email. A few hours later, Mr. McBeath replied to me and asked if my concern was addressed in a satisfactory manner. I told him it had been addressed, but I was displeased with my customer service experience at the hotel, and thus would not be staying here again. He replied, "That's regrettable, but perhaps that is for the best". Really? That's how a general manager in the hospitality industry replies to a paying customer? I replied expressing disbelief that he was so rude to me. He clearly didn't care at that point since he already got my money. So I contacted corporate to let them know what happened. I'd hate for anyone, especially those visiting Alaska, to have their trip ruined by an experience like this. I received the standard "we're sorry, thank you for your feedback, we will address this" customer service reply. I don't know if this is actually true or if they were just telling me this to shut me up. So of course I didn't get a discount or refund at all, but that was very wishful thinking. Anyway, customer service aside, the hotel is nothing special. Rooms are pretty nondescript. I would like to say they were at least clean but inspection of the bathroom proved otherwise. There was a dental floss pick glaringly visible under the sink. Not a strand of floss, which I understand could be missed, but floss attached to a green plastic part that made it visible against the tile. The bar food more or less reminded me of dining on campus in college. I could get cheaper cocktails in college too. Basically, avoid this hotel at all costs, unless want a room with a view of the Anchorage Memorial Cemetery. There's other options in downtown Anchorage with better locations and (hopefully) better customer service. read more

Stayed here overnight as room-isolated transit crew. The hotel has done an excellent job of adapting to the challenges of distancing and reducing contact. Check in was fast and the staff were helpful with explaining the hotel arrangements, with a printed information sheet also provided. Our catering options were limited to in-house room service or delivery, both of which were ably facilitated by the front desk staff. Deliverers seemed familiar with the set up. The rooms were well prepared with extra towels and bedding so that we could remain contactless for our stay. The rooms themselves were clean and comfortable, very similar in style and size to those in the Marriott Downtown a few blocks away. Internet speed was fast and stable around 15-20Mbps, but the room TV had cable only with no option to set up online media sources like Netflix, Hulu etc. I survived nonetheless! I'd stay again. read more

Stayed here after an Alaskan cruise in May. Clean, very friendly and helpful staff. They have a small convenience store inside which is crucial since not any other places close by to purchase items. Nice little coffee shop inside to have breakfast. Gina, our waitress, was efficient and always had a big smile. The front desk was always ready to help with our questions. Especially enjoyed Cara, who went out of her way to make us feel welcome. Nice to see that beautiful smile everytime we passed the desk. read more

I am not sure why some people not liked this hotel. It has good location and rooms are great! Check my pictures. Common areas are well kept. Restroom and bed comfort along w ac heating and TV worked flawlessly and my check in was a breeze. Friendly staff overall at risk that I still have 2 more days here but I don't see anything breaking my concept of this hotel based on value this is great! Very complete gym with cardiovascular and weight equipment great sets of dumbells and mats and stretch area. No hot tub dry sauna nor steam room but spa has plenty of beauty and massage services. Again for value I do think this is a 4 start hotel. Plenty of parking and plenty of restaurants supermarket and close to downtown. The online fare nightly gives me a good value. I yet have to check bar and food on site but so far thrilled with my choice of hotel. If I am picky, the lobby area only needs more dramatic lighting since upon arrival it presents a bit grim and confusing. Check in is behind stairs and looks weird. Once I settled knowing different doors to lobby I think it's perfectly fine. I'd stay here again no problem :) read more

This is really one of two places to stay while in Anchorage. Right on the fringes of the downtown area it's the perfect place with good food and drink nearby. What makes this hotel so good is the employees. From the front desk to the employees in the bar, they are great and have been here a long time. Rooms have been refreshed and it has the vibe of Alaska. They even have a spa here and rumor has it... a certain person from Wasilla comes here (Actually, that might make you come here OR stay away). If you have an RV or a big truck, this is the perfect place to stay with enough room for parking. read more

So I was on the somewhat infamous flight to Hong Kong that was diverted after a passenger smeared his poop in two of the lavatories. (Fortunately I had no idea any of this was happening.) We wound up in Anchorage, Alaska, and the airline put us up in this hotel. It was a fairly harrowing, stressful detour, but the people at the Sheraton couldn't have been nicer or more accommodating. As for the room, it was pretty spectacular. Spacious and clean, the room was exactly what I needed after a somewhat nightmarish day. The luxurious bed, with its four irresistibly soft pillows, couldn't possibly have been a more welcome respite. We were also provided with vouchers for free dinner and breakfast buffets, and the food was decent (if unspectacular). I got to try reindeer sausage, so that was pretty exciting. (Note: it tastes like jerky.) The only weird note was the security by the elevators. They were very nice to me, but it's still pretty jarring to have to acknowledge security guards on your way up to your room. read more

Stayed here after flight to Valdez was cancelled. Booked room thru SPG app at airport.. $20 cab ride to hotel, and they were ready for my arrival. SPG gold status via plat amex.. upgraded room. Upg here is a view of anchorage.. eh. No biggy. Room was clean and warm from the cold rain n wind from outside. I slept well enough to get back to the airport at 7am the next day. I didnt get to eat or order room svc.. so i just hit their sundries shop. $13 for monster, coke n toothbrush. Sounds about right for "resort" prices. Staff was very nice and attentive. read more
