I cannot rave enough about the thin seasoned fries. The master chef is responsible for the seasoning. The best I have ever had. The cod is exactly as it should be. The server was attentive and had a very friendly fun personality. She teased me and it went right over my head. I love it. Sitting riverside is the best. read more

The only place in town open past noon. No greeter, wander through and find a table and wait for someone to notice. Food is slow and just OK for premium prices. Nice view, but it's dirty. Keep your attention on the view! read more

First time here, food was good, server was super sweet, and unfortunately the only server. She was doing an awesome job. Bartender on the other hand basically refused to make my Bloody Mary, even though the server kept asking her for it, but yet made one for a customer sitting at the bar. Not to mention we had to hear a drunk guy's phone conversation, who could barely stand or walk, yet they still served him. Very unprofessional bartender, only gives the locals attention. read more

This is a very unassuming restaurant but everything we ate was sooo good. Wing Dings were a champion, we had to order a 2nd round. I had a really good fish sandwich and my husband really enjoyed his burger as well. May not be able to come back to this place but if you happen to pass by this small town, I'd recommend this place. Great view of the bridge as well read more

Food was good. I had a huge burger and homemade fries. My husband likes the bone in wings. Price was reasonable. Great view of the river and staff were friendly. Service was a bit slow, as it appears like most places they were short handed. Parking was not good. We would return. read more

Not sure if this place is still open or not. Called them 5 times tonight to place a to-go order and the phone just rang and rang and tang. Gave up at 5 times. read more

Set on the patio during COVID-19 shared a basket of chicken wings and amazing fries with just enough seasoning on them. The homemade coleslaw was amazing and it went down very nice with a Pompe Indian pale ale ! We will come back sometime just to check out the inside but the food was great and we enjoyed sitting out on the patio on a nice day. read more

Shep's Riverside Bar and Grill - a tray of french fries - Burgers Near Me - Lansing, Iowa

Had a weekday lunch there. Food was adequate with reasonable size portions and price, but nothing to be excited about. Server was friendly and restroom was fairly clean. Main dining room provides nice views of the river, but it was chilly on a cloudy cool day. We might come back, but could easily be talked into going elsewhere. read more

We stopped yesterday for lunch. People sitting in the dining area were frustrated waiting for someone to take their order so we decided to sit at the bar. NO acknowledgment from any staff. We sat for a bit patiently. Others came in and were approached by staff. A few times staff appeared to look our way but that was as far as it went. Staffing could have been an issue so that's why we waited patiently. After a bit we just walked out. That will be the last time we venture there. read more

Bar is inadequately stocked! No doors on women's restroom- only shower curtain. Not okay! No excuse!

If you're looking for "fine dining", keep looking. But if you're looking for dining that is very fine, you've got the right place!!!! Their wing dings are fantastic and they're wing ding platter is more than enough to fill the average person up!! Need to go back because I think having dinner and then a few beers here would be fantastic. read more

The worst service, the waitress had no interest in helping us. We ordered the soup/ salad bar. There was no soup, we asked her and she went to the kitchen, she came back and said it will be out in a little bit. The salad bar was pathetic very little to choose from. We waited for half an hour still no soup. We decided to pay and leave .... Here's the kicker it cost us 23.00 for a crappy salad . Ridiculous, horrible service . This place sucks! wish 0 stars was an option. read more

We stopped in for lunch today. The waiter gave us menus. As we sat there, he brought food to and waited on other tables by us. The bartender came out from behind the bar and went to a table. Then she cleared two tables while we waited. Between the waiter and the bartender, there was no eye contact and nothing said to us. We left in silence. Also, the windows are extremely dirty. I have to rate the experience before I can submit this. There was no service and no food involved so the rating should be 0 but it has to be 1 star:-( read more

Great location with super riverside views. Some pop arming on street. S mb all parking lot. Very close to train tracks. Has summertime seating outside. Food is typical bar and small restaurant type. We usually arrive around noon. Local type hangout. Don't expect fine cuisine. read more

Thought the location was perfect. On the river with a heck of a view. Food was typical bar food. Nothing special. Staff was a Joke. Couldn't answer any questions about drinks and food. Screwed up our meal and then after being asked if we had everything I told them I was missing something. Extremely rude response. Overcharged on bill as prices didn't match the menu. Started throwing money at me to refund me. Never again. Might as well stop at the Kwik Star in town where they are always friendly. read more

Shep's Riverside Bar and Grill - a view of a bridge - Burgers Near Me - Lansing, Iowa

For what it is, it was really nice. It's a standard midwestern bar and grill on the Mississippi River. We were there on a Tuesday early afternoon. Place was pretty dead. Server was prompt, friendly, and did everything a server should do. The burgers were great! We had the Shep's Ahoy burger, which is essentially a bacon cheeseburger with mushrooms on it. My only disappointment was that the mushrooms looked like they were canned mushrooms. Other than that, the burger was great and fresh. Their hand cut fries were yummy, but a little too thin cut for my taste. I'd go back if we were in the area. read more

We waited for an hour and a half for our food. They didn't even start cooking our food until we asked how much longer it was going to be, after we had already waited an hour. We won't be back. Plus side, ther bartender outside was fabulous. She's the only reason we stayed. She deserves a raise. read more

So many possibilities, so little effort. This small bar and grill, suspended above the Mississippi River has gone down hill in the past few years. Enough so that I would recommend you skip this when choosing a place to eat. There are many other options in and around Lansing, Iowa and across the river in Wisconsin. read more

Wasn't great, but wasn't bad. Food was average. They had a pretty little view from the diner area of the water. Friendly waitress.

We have stopped by here a few times just to grab a drink, so I have never felt compelled to write a review based on that. However, we stopped by yesterday for a drink and I couldn't count how many times I heard the F-bomb being dropped, as soon as we walked in the door. I don't typically have a problem with it, I have my own potty mouth. I understand that a lot of locals hang here, they all know each other, etc. However, after sitting there listening to this group for about 10 minutes, I realized that the owner was amongst the group - sitting on the other side of the bar, where his customers are sitting. I was trying to ignore their conversations, but it seemed as though they were offering advice to one of the (very) young bartenders. One of his tidbits of advice was for her to stay away from "n**gers." I was so disgusted by his unprofessional behavior and blatant racism - we could not leave there fast enough. I'm sure the locals think it's funny and acceptable, but for those of us who are just passing through and are willing to give them our business, maybe they should be more considerate and professional....and not racist. We wont be back. Ever. read more

Stopped for lunch and had a basic cheeseburger and fries. My friend had the salad bar. All was excellent. Service was excellent. Only reason didn't mark 5 stars is because of the outside of the building. Looks a little scary driving up to it. read more

Such a great find. We were on a road trip and on a whim headed over the Black Hawk bridge. So glad we did!. Clean, friendly staff, a great view of the Mississippi and best of all great food. They get much of their meat from City Meat market in New Albin and the bacon on my chicken sandwich was so good we made that the next stop to buy our own! Hamburgers and fries were wonderful and the special of the day (meatballs, mashed potatoes and carrots) made my Wisconsin husband VERY happy! Looked like you could also come by river and tie up at the boat dock. We'll come again! read more

Terrible service. There was no staff for the patio and the bartender inside alternated between ignoring us and being downright rude. It was clear our business wasn't wanted. There are plenty of other places in town with better food and better service. We will not be returning. read more

Great salad bar! All salads were fresh & the homemade chicken 'n noodles was delicious! The fish wraps were yummy, too!

Love this place ! Great food, good prices, beautiful view, and clean bathrooms !! We'll be here a lot this summer !!!

I had the Shep's Ahoy burger with fries and slaw. It was very tasty and the fries were really good. Items were priced right. It's a cozy bar and was pretty busy with college football on the screens, but everyone was very friendly. Nice view of the river. Good service. The outside deck was closed since it was fall and pretty chilly out. I will try again in the summer. read more
