Love a good coffee shop. On the drive back home from Minneapolis to Milwaukee, we were told we needed to stop in and check this place out. From the outside it looks like a small shop, but it feels bigger once you step inside. The big front windows let in plenty of natural light. There are café tables outside, and inside there are different-sized tables for small groups. The seating is mostly simple wood benches, which are not very comfortable if you plan on sitting for a long time. We were a little disappointed that the kitchen was already closed at 2:00 p.m. The barista apologized, but not much could be done. We ended up getting a London Fog Tea Latte and a couple of cookies. (We did find a Mexican restaurant down the street for lunch, so it all worked out.) The London Fog was very good, with a little lavender, a little vanilla, and extra foam. The peanut butter cookie was just okay, but the cardamom ginger cookie was amazing, similar in taste to a molasses cookie. Would definitely like to come back sometime to try the food, enjoy a couple more hot beverages, and sit outside on the patio, rather than on the inside wood box seats. read more

Wonderful spot in an unexpected area of WI - worth the drive! I was craving a good cup of coffee and a hearty breakfast, and man did I find it at Wonderstate. The breakfast salad was loaded with greens, potatoes, pistachios, and perfectly prepared jammy egg and bacon, topped with a dressing I'd love to eat for every meal. I go here often and have yet to have anything less than excellent. The coffee selection is great, and the food selections are fresh, delicious, and reasonably priced (these days!!). You may have more than a "fast food" wait, but it's worth it. The staff is so friendly and if an order gets mixed up, they're quick to replace it (doesn't happen often!). I highly recommend! Only wish is that there was more seating indoors (outdoor seating is great in good weather). read more

This place was great! Lots of local and organic sourcing, which is awesome. The staff were really helpful with answering questions and accommodating preferences or dietary restrictions. I ended up trying the evergreen breve with oat milk and decaf coffee, which was maybe not quite as decadent as the dairy version would be, but was just what I was hoping for. Just right amounts of sweet and toasty and festive flavors, plus rich and creamy and warm. I also got a breakfast bowl with greens, roasted veggies, and grains, and they let me substitute some mushrooms for the eggs, so that it would still be very filling, balanced, and hearty. The sauce was great and the portion was just right! I would definitely return. We had a great experience. read more

Very clean and bright space. I ordered tea, soup, sandwich. $17 - which is more expensive than Chicago prices. The woman who took my order was lovely. The person who yelled my name when my order was didn't match the kindness/niceness the place is trying to evoke. Oh, and for $17 I get to bus my own table. Updated 6/21/20 Again the people who take the orders are just lovely. I ordered a breakfast sandwich and it's taking over 20 minutes and was just told it's going to be 10 minutes more. I've enjoyed Wonderstate's beans before, but it's definitely a treat to visit their cafe! Located in the heart of downtown Viroqua and right across the street from the Farmers Market, Wonderstate has a decent sized parking lot and great indoor and outdoor seating. Their staff is super cheerful and they make wonderful coffee. My mom loved her jalapeño lavender latte and my aunt swears by their iced chai latte. My husband and I enjoyed cold brews and a delicious, homemade gluten free breakfast bar. I can't wait to come back to Wonderstate the next time we visit family! read more

There coffee and employees are all great. I wife loves the coffee and insists that we come here any time we can. Unfortunately I more enjoy a good cup of hot chocolate and they just don't have that. Loved out lunch here! Clean, super cute, friendly staff and YUMMY! The hubbs and I both had thr deiftless bowl, and we cannot stop raving! I'm in love. With a place. A modern, uncluttered, hexagon type of place. It's a changing-with-the-seasons sticks in vases place. A place where you can sit in a corner and write, and matcha latte your troubles away. The people are kind, love everyone, AND serve healthy food that's also very tasty. If you're there before 2:00, try The Farmer. If I haven't been there and eaten all the flourless chocolate cookies, try one of those also. This is a place of happiness. Claims of 100% solar powered on their website and every bag of coffee... You have to look a bit closer at their website to learn that's not entirely accurate. "In 2015, Wonderstate Coffee's roastery went 100% solar powered, becoming one of the first coffee roasters in the world to generate all its power from an on-site solar array. With the exception of our vintage Probat gas-powered roasters and winter heating, our entire roastery, offices and production floor are powered by a 96 panel, 30-Kilowatt solar array that sits just outside our front door." Coffee roasting and winter heating are a large non-renewable (i.e., natural gas) energy consumption. While I applaud their efforts to use renewable energy, I'm not a fan of obvious greenwashing. I've attempted to contact them several times regarding this issue and have had no response. read more

What a cute find in a tiny town! The coffee shop's popularity definitely speaks for itself -- when we visited, almost every outdoor table was full and the line to order (they've set up ordering stations and a pickup station outside due to COVID) had 15ish people waiting. I ordered a toasted bagel with butter and a vanilla latte, and my husband got a bagel with lox. The prices were about what I'd expect -- $10.50 for the lox bagel, $3.50 for the latte and bagel. I was a bit disappointed with the latte as I couldn't taste the vanilla much at all and the foam was practically nonexistent, but the coffee was still good so it wasn't the end of the world. My bagel was clearly homemade and tasted like a cross between an English muffin and a bagel, which I found delicious if unexpected. My husband RAVED about his lox sandwich. The whole Covid setup was smooth and efficient and made me feel very safe, as everyone was wearing masks except when eating (we chose to carry our food elsewhere vs removing masks to eat) and they had a hand sanitizer station outside. We waited maybe 10 minutes total for our sandwiches (drinks were faster). Overall a great experience! read more

Great coffee. Horrible if you have a problem. It really is great coffee. Yet when an order was delivered to the wrong address, it became a huge ordeal to get them to actually fix it. It went from telling me I was lying, claiming the whole thing was out of their hands, then blaming others for the problem (including me, in numerous ways), to finally calling me names! It's sad, because we have been customers of Kickapoo for over a decade. Not sure exactly why Kickapoo thinks this treatment is acceptable, but was clear they do (and I think they wanted me to go away more than they wanted to resolve the situation). No customer should have to fight to get the product they paid for, much less be treated poorly. read more

Bizarre service experience- I had to ask for a knife for my bagel & creme cheese , waited in line for a social interaction to complete between customer/ cashier that went on forever and the coffee was the smallest large coffee I've ever seen. This is a sweet coffee shop (literally - try the Iced Maple Lattes!), with well-made drinks and good food. A great place for families, people working on laptops, or just meeting a friend. I do have one small complaint, otherwise, the rating would definitely have been 5 stars. Most coffee shops/restaurants don't have flies, but there have been flies in the seating area each time I've been there. This could probably be easily fixed (and I'd happily take down or change my review) by taking the garbage out more often or maybe taking more care in closing back doors.
