My parents just moved from LA back to South Korea since we have family members that have gotten ill and need help. My parents aren't the best English speakers but they were super sweet with them and took the time to give them an estimate. Im a big yelp person so I asked my parents for the name to yelp it. It didn't have many reviews but after comparing prices, they were the best people for the job. They even stayed in touch with me since they knew that I could help translate things for my parents. My moms been keeping a collection Of cute plates she's found at flea markets and she was so happy and had a sigh of relief when she saw there were in one piece. They used the blanket padding to wrap the cabinets and used the seran wrap to cover everything up. Once it arrived to my parents new home we got notifications. They're living in an apartment on the 8th floor and honestly thought it would be hell for them but they helped unload so it made it a lot easier. They just made everything really convenient for my parents so props to them for being patient and on top of it. Pros: They're quick to responding and are patient. My parents had a loose screw in a chair and one of the workers tightened it for it so the chair was like new. Not even part of their job but they saw that doing that would help keep the furniture together through the process. Everything came in one piece. Cons: The only thing I'd say is that it's difficult trusting a new business with few reviews. However, I hope they continue their hard work. read more

I was helping a good friend of mine move from LA to France, she was too busy with work so I was in charge of picking the movers. I had heard of Shepherd from another friend and gave them a call, it was the best idea I have ever had. I called them and they provided the best estimate out of the 3 or 4 movers I called. They were very friendly and super responsive. Our moving date changed and our moving time changed a couple times but they were able to adjust to our changes and did not charge us extra for wasting some of their time. When they arrived they quickly helped pack my friend's stuff with moving supplies they brought themselves (which was awesome because we didn't have any of those types of supplies) and my friend really appreciated how careful they were with all of her personal items. Taking into consideration that the move was international, we expected it to be much more of a headache but the movers were the quickest and easiest part to deal with. My shipment arrived with numerous items damaged or destroyed, including two of three items specifically requested for special treatment. We asked for special care for a wooden 7-foot statue and it arrived with a large piece broken off (which was lost in the debris for several days while the receiving moving crew persisted and then finally found it). The packing was only a thin layer of cardboard and no bubble wrap or other cushioning. The second item, a unique and fragile piece of art, was dumped in the bottom of a box with no bubble wrap - only paper - and other things on top of it. So naturally pieces of it chipped off. Aside from about 15-20 other broken items, the coup de grace was the shattering of ceramic platters that my grandmother made (complete with her signature that was etched on them, broken in pieces). They were placed at the bottom of a large box with many things on top of them and only one flat piece of paper between them. The response from Shepherd to my anger and distress at the unnecessary destruction of things I cherished has been, I believe, sincere as to at least one staff member. But otherwise, despite numerous requests to hear from their management, the silence has been deafening. The insurance cost almost $4000 but appears to be unlikely to pay for much of the damage (deductible, etc) and certainly cannot make up for the emotional torture of seeing valuables of intense sentimental value destroyed. It is unfortunate, because the service was reasonably good from Shepherd until the arrival. However, the bad packing at origin and the tepid response I have received from Shepherd about the damage has shown an evident lack of concern for me as their customer. read more
