Our group of 5 stopped here on a Sunday for dinner and ordered blackened chicken sandwich with Cole slaw, cheeseburger and fries, chicken tenders, quesadilla, and shrimp chowder. We were all very happy with our menu choices and the food was fresh and delicious. The chicken tenders (x3) were large and ended up fellow diners took most home because such a large portion. I ordered a blackened grilled chicken sandwich and it was equivalent to 2 sandwiches compared to most other places we've patronized. The Cole slaw is crisp and has a nice dressing. I also had unsweetened tea and noticed it had a great tannic flavor that I enjoy, not weak. Prices are a great value for quality and quantity. Service was great. Sort of noisy venue, but it is a local watering hole and expected. Restrooms are very small. Free parking on surrounding side streets. read more

I will start off saying this is not my type of place. If you are looking to watch a sports game on a late Saturday night and want to be surrounded by mainly young college age men drinking a lot in a room of rustic tables that is very noisy, this is your place. To be fair, I didn't check out the other side with the main bar. The buffalo chicken dip I ordered was very good although not a big portion size. The young man who was my waiter was very nice and respectful and right away said he would wipe down my dirty table. The place might be under-staffed. It took some time to get my check, and I did have my plate to the side and I am sure I looked like a fish out of water. The St. Patrick's Day decorations outdoors were very pretty. I had thought this was a classy bar; instead, I found one that Jon Taffer of Bar Rescue would probably have a field day with, and I did not feel too comfortable being there by myself. read more

Neat spot located in the heart of Louisville's Highlands neighborhood. Stopped by for dinner and a drink during the recent snow-thing and will definitely return. Despite the name 'Shenanigan's Pub', I didn't get strong 'Irish bar' vibes - which, to me, is a good thing! There is a long bar when you first walk in, and across from that is a visible-but-separate area with tables. Louisville has a tremendous, unparalleled, chill-but-not-too-sedate vibe and Shenanigan's was a mirror of this. I can only speak to ~9:30 pm on a recent Sunday, but the bar area had maybe 8-12 people, making it 1/2 full, and the seating area appeared to be ~40% occupied. I had called in some to-go food and they were nice enough to put it through, even though the kitchen was due to close in 15 minutes. Try asking for that in Jersey and see what you get! After walking there through the recent snowfall, my wife and I decided to have a drink and eat our food at the bar. Bartender was nice (yes, actually nice) and the margarita I ordered was good as effff. Honestly, I am now sitting at home and was thinking how good the drink was which prompted this review. It tasted nothing like the usual sour mix and salty tears which seem to make up most bargaritas ( patent pending on that neologism). I had grilled cheese with bacon and it was real good - two types of cheeses but not a 'fancy' grilled cheese and the bacon was bacon, not fried fat. My wife said she liked her BLT. Other patrons were a mix of local folks, college kids and *shrugs* people. That's about as good as a neighborhood bar/restaurant can do in my book, so I'm giving top marks to Shenanigan's. read more

Today a group of 25 of us popped in to Shenanigan's for a wake. No one had planned this ahead it was an impromptu celebration of the life of a wonderful woman. Shenanigan's handled all of us calling in more help to service the group. Everyone enjoyed their food. Raves were shared about the chili, the Rueben, the cod platter, the chicken salad, the chef salad and I'm sure more. The Pub was a great place for us to mingle with our large group. Shenanigans's handled our spontaneous gathering with grace and ease. Imagine how it could be for a group of six on any day. Shenanigan's is a fantastic neighborhood bar with lots of TVs and good food. I've been there twice, and both times really enjoyed it. The first time, my wife and I were on a long walk and in search for a watering hole to take a break. We walked right up to the bar, and had a few drinks along with some fun, friendly conversation. It was enough to know I'd be back. This week, I went with a friend to watch the College World Series and NBA Finals. For a Monday night in a neighborhood, it was pretty packed! Plenty of TVs that there really wasn't a bad view. Our service was great, and it was also timely. We ordered two pitchers of beer and some food. Price for a pitcher of Bud Light was $8, which seemed reasonable. We got pretzels and beer cheese to start, which hit the spot and left plenty of room for the burger I wanted. The Bellarmine Burger (bacon, BBQ, cheddar) had a nice, thick, paddy and was put on a delicious potato bun. I wasn't even starving, but I ate the entire thing because it was so good. The crinkled fries were a nice touch. My friend got the Aztec burger without the sauce, and also enjoyed his meal. Couple of random notes: the bathroom is very cramped. If you have a gluten allergy, they do have a few options, but make sure you talk to your server. I cannot imagine a better place to hang out if you're a Bellarmine grad or fan. This is a great neighborhood gem that can be both family-friendly and fun for a group of adults looking for a late night. read more

Neighbor bar, what a gem tucked back in the neighborhood with only street parking. Such a fun find to watch the game, sip a few cold beers, eat some bar food with a few surprises! Love that they've got tons of picnic tables ad the outdoor seating option. It's got such a chill neighborhood vibe. Lots of ferns outside too! We sat inside though. For it being a Friday around 6, it never got that slammed. Busy ish but not overwhelming. We ordered beers. I got the lemon summer shandy recommended by our waiter while my friends got Bell's and a Gose. I had looked online at reviews and such and the Bellarmine burger seemed to be the top pick. I ordered that one. BBQ, cheddar, bacon, and fully dressed. Hold the onion. My friends got the Beyond burger and the Highland burger (standard burger btw). Nice to see the beyond burger taking off! So important we accommodate our vegetarian friends. Everything was good and wow I couldn't finish! The burger Patty was large! So thick! I had a third of the burger to bring home and it looked like half of a regular burger! The fries were seasoned and had a good crunch. My friends all loved what they got too. Lots of older retired looking people here as well as young adults, maybe some of whom go to Bellarmine. But I also saw a smaller handful of middle aged folks. The drinks aren't a bad price if that's the selling point! Our server was great! Very attentive, made sure we liked everything, and was helpful with the menu. I've been here twice so far now it's time to leave a review. This bar and restaurant is located on Norris place in a neighborhood, your only option is street parking or walking if you live close. I have a friend who lives within walking distance and we decided to eat lunch here on 2 separate occasions. First time we went, we both got the Bellarmine Burger. However my friend got fries and I got the Kettle chips. Our burgers were cooked well done and the bacon and bbq sauce on the burger was a good kind of different. Loved the smoked taste although the bacon could have been a bit more crunchy which is what I like. Second time, my friend got the Highland Burger and I got the Chicken tenders w/ bbq sauce. I liked how well cooked and crunchy the chicken tenders were. They were pretty big and I had to get a to go box because I couldn't finish it. My friend enjoyed their Highland burger. We happen to like the atmosphere of this place. It is a friendly neighborhood bar and restaurant. We both encountered the owner both visits and he is pretty good about checking on his customers and making you feel welcome and that is bonus points in my book. Staff was friendly and attentive, it did take some time to get our food but, we didn't get frustrated. Like most places it is hard to get any help so please be patient with them. The food was well worth the wait. They also have a full bar if you want any beer or liquor and you can sit at the bar now. There are only some local craft beer available. I would come here a lot more if I lived closer, I may get into more Shenanigans than necessary lol. This place is also perfect if you want to escape the busy Bardstown Road and Baxter Ave bars and restaurants because it's tucked away in a neighborhood. Firstly..called to ask if a certain NFL game would be on and the female employee was rude but did say it would be. We walked in to a basically empty place, sat down and requested a TV be put on our game. We were told no, that tv was already requested..Ok..We sat somewhere else and our young waitress was very nice and put the game on..NOONE EVER came to sit at the table and tv we requested, no one in the dining area was watching that game but it remained on..The audio was also of that game which we totally understand since there were 4 people at the bar watching.. The bartender was rude and clearly hates her job unless unless it's dealing with "regulars." The other tvs were playing the weather channel on a football Sunday.. This place could be a gem but is clearly controlled by a few regular, miserable customers and employees..Ridiculous. read more

My girlfriend and I came here for lunch to catch up and to see if the place has changed. The place still feels like the neighborhood bar and they now have lots of picnic tables outside for outdoor seating. Service was great, they checked on you but they pretty much left you alone. We both got the Bellarmine burger mine was medium as ordered and my girlfriend ordered hers well done. Her burger came out with some pink to it. She didn't sent it back she just ate half of it. This is a fun local restaurant that offers a good space to sit and catch up with company. There is outdoor seating as well as indoor. Inside there are television screens that they can show sports games. The staff is always nice and attentive. This time I got the BLT sandwich which was stacked with bacon and thick slices of tomato. The fries are well seasoned and delicious. They give a large portion which is great. Another me got the grilled cheese and green beans, which they enjoyed. My boyfriend and I were walking in the neighborhood on Saturday night and then the rain hit. We ran for cover under their covered patio and decided to order a meal to-go. The lady taking the order was so nice but very efficient and served about 12 families in quick succession of each other! We got the pretzels and beer cheese for the appetizer and my boyfriend ordered the fish sandwich with Irish chips. I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich Eddie style with shrimp corn chowder. The pretzels were perfectly baked and carmelized. The beer cheese was oh so creamy! My boyfriend's fish sandwich was massive and the breading was light. My sandwich consisted of an entire chicken breast and it was cooked perfectly. The shrimp corn chowder was spicy, light, and just damn good! Perfect for after being caught in the rain! Shenanigans is a longtime staple in the Highlands for a reason -- few other corner bars boast the friendly, neighborhood feel, hearty menu, and attentive service that this place offers. My most recent visit was with a friend who was a regular back in college. Not much had changed, according to her, and it's a case where the nostalgia is a bit comforting in a way. We sidled up to the bar one evening to catch up, each ordering a little something to eat and drink. She went with a burger while I nibbled on some after-dinner fries. She grabbed a beer, and -- not being a beer fan -- I went with a margarita. Our bartender was friendly and just attentive enough that we felt neither neglected nor hovered over. She said she had been working here since last summer and just loves the atmosphere in the space. Indeed, it's definitely a friendly spot, and one worth checking out if you're in the area. This is a great place to hang out with friends and grab a couple beers. It has that classic pub sports bar feel. Lots of TVs with different games on and you can tell the bar stays busy with people hanging out every night. The food is classic bar food. Nothing super special but if you are looking for a cheap burger or some great fried appetizers it's got everything you need. They have signature house made irish chips that are really good. I got the Ruben which was okay. My husband got a burger and I recommend that more than the Ruben. Their bar has tons of Bourbon and Liquors. Anything you need for a good mixed drink. I noticed several wines and of course a great beer variety. They also have a Irish red ale that looked great. Some friends and I stopped in here the night prior to St Patricks Day to drink and celebrate the holiday. It was packed, but not so packed that you couldn't walk. The place was festively decorated, but it is just a run down irish bar. We told the bartender there was no paper towels at one point in the women's restroom and he shrugged at us and walked off. We were starving and decided to order pretzels and beer cheese and grilled cheese. It took a long time for our food to come out. We had to check in with the bartender after 30 or so mins and were told sorry, that the order was lost or never placed??? but that it would be right out. It's fine - we were drinking and enjoying our cheap draft beers but still a little weird. The food came out and was bit worth $8 for each. The beer cheese tasted like nacho cheese and the pretzels were burned. The grilled cheese and fries were something I could've picked up at a baseball park for $4 or $5. Tucked away on Norris Place off Eastern Parkway, this is definitely one of Louisville's special neighborhood gems. I'm with a group of guys who meet weekly at different restaurants around the city for lunch, and Shenanigan's is now one of our favorites. It's a bar-food menu and it's all good. The sandwiches and salads are large and delicious. The pricing is reasonable, and the service is friendly, relaxed, and professional. Shenanigan's on St.Patrick's Day?! Why not?! Headed here with some friends to celebrate the holiday. I had never been to this bar/pub before but if service is always this on point - you can bet I'll be back. To keep things easy, we took turns buying rounds. I'm not sure what all was on tap as I stuck with Miller. Yuengling and Guinness were flowing as well though. They also had some sour beers in cans. After a bit of standing outside while people watching, the smells of fried food lured us to hunt down a waitress. And as luck would have it, she stopped to check on us right about that time. We ordered a variety of appetizers. The pretzels and cheese were delicious. The pretzel was soft and easy to pull apart. It had a nice covering of salt but not so much that you had to brush it off first. My favorite though has to be the French fries. I'm not kidding when I say we ordered 3 baskets of fries throughout the evening. The ranch that came with them was perfect for dipping. Later in the evening, we ordered fries pickles as well. Once again, SO yummy!!!! Perfectly crispy - they easily satisfied this girls tipsy fried food craving. The staff was super friendly and quick to fill orders. Even with being busy with the holiday and people watching tournament games, they never seemed to be stressed or overwhelmed. The food was amazing and the beer was cold. Went here on a date on a Monday night. When we arrived, the bartender told us to seat ourselves and a server would be with us soon. We waited and waited for someone to pay attention to us, with no luck. The servers hung out talking in the serving station back by the kitchen, and didn't make eye contact when they went past. One dropped a bill at the table next to us without even looking in our direction. We left when a group that came after us were seated and served. When we stood up to leave, one server and the bartender stared without once asking us what was wrong or if we needed anything. The staff just don't seem interested in actually looking after guests. There are plenty of cheaper options nearby with attentive, friendly service. I doubt we'll be back. read more

Oh how I wish I remembered the helpful guy's name who was kind enough to assist us three out-of-staters who stumbled on this neighborhood pub asking not for beer, but bourbon. Not only did he do an excellent job of describing which bourbons we might like to try, but he brought us all cups of water, ice, and a variety of soda's in case we thought it was too strong! Haha. What a guy. We asked him all kinds of questions about Louisville and the neighborhood and he was very informative. To top it off, when we called our cab who couldn't seem to figure out where the hell this Shenanigan's was, Helpful Guy took the phone and got it done. I met my friend here for happy hour on a cool Tuesday afternoon as it was right down the street from her house. Being the highlander she is, she loves this place and suggested we meet here when we realized our original destination (which shall remain unnamed) didn't open until 5:00. This place is truly a hole-in-the-wall local joint with lots of locals, and enough off the beaten path of bardstown road to feel like you're somewhere else. The bar is bit dark and sectioned off to feel like you're in a maze, with lots of history in this place so at least you're going to find something cool if you get lost inside! Patio area is a nice plus, happy hour specials are alright, and food is even better. We had the jalapeño poppers and buffalo chicken dip, and both were amazing. If only I could figure out what goes in that raspberry glaze, my life would be complete. read more

We'll definitely an off day. Waitress said there was a tremendous party last night and she was felling it/certainly prophetic. Service was slow-I can't say how good tasted because a hot meatloaf sandwich and crinkle fries certainly don't taste right at below room temp. I'm talking cold as could be! Not a good experience. The food was above average for bar food, but the staff and cold beer is what has made me return many times since. If you go, ask for Amy at the bar. She is great. Very friendly, honest and on top of everything. She filled me in on the history of the bar, and how it fits in with the local community. Shenanigan's is the highlands version of a neighborhood bar. They have decent food, an excellent beer selection, and clean interior. I always try to sit outside when possible. There are a few tables with chairs in the front but the majority of the outdoor seating consists of picnic tables along the side of the restaurant. This is a favorite for local neighbors during the day and a Bellarmine hangout in the evening. Service can be slow on busy nights but they are normally fast and friendly. Yesterday we got 3 appetizers. The chips and queso and salsa, fried pickles, and cheese spread. The chips and queso were good, if standard. Nothing exciting. The cheese spread is an entire container of Bills cheese spread with pretzel sticks and a sleeve of crackers. The fried pickles were pretty good. The pickle slices are a bit thick which is different than most other fried pickles I've had. I also had the cod sandwich and it was great. They give you 2 big pieces of fish on rye. I think the batter on the cod and the fried pickles was the same. I got a pretty small portion of fries as my side and they were barely warm. But the fried pickles and cod were very good! Our server was attentive and kept my water glass full. Monday is wing night so it was a bit busy.
