Overall the cabin was very clean, the terms were reasonable, it had everything we needed, and the view/location was perfect. If you're traveling to the area I'd definitely recommend looking into their options.

While the cabin itself was nice enough, neat and clean and the view was great, there were a lot of problems. 1. The rental agent made a mistake and charged me for 4 nights while I only was allowed to stay three. I would have been okay with this, but it was their error and they refused a refund. 2. The cabin is located on a very steep muddy hill, if your car doesn't have four wheel drive, forget about getting there. You have to leave your car at the bottom of the hill and then use their old jeep to get up. Necessitating a tedious transfer of articles arriving and departing 3. The kitchen is a joke, hardly any cookware, not even a kitchen towel or drying rack. Forget about cooking there and the nearest restaurant is quite a drive 4. There are way too many stink bugs in this cabin for my comfort. Lovely area though, I'd certainly return but never to this cabin or with this rental agency.

It is the coziest little getaway in Luray situated on an absolutely beautiful property. There are five cabins in total that are intended to be a couple's getaway, so the property is always very quiet and peaceful. It feels very connected to nature- we've seen deer very close to each of the structures when we've stayed. We've had the pleasure of staying in the Dragonfly, Bumblebee, and Ladybug cabins and have really enjoyed each one- they all have a similar feel but are built slightly differently. This time around, we were in the Bumblebee cabin, which is quite spacious and shares a structure with the Dragonfly cabin. There was a gas fireplace and a TV downstairs where we spent most of our time reading; there was also a couch upstairs in the hallway outside of the bedroom, and a cute balcony we probably would have spent time on if it was warmer! It is absolutely the kind of place where you can just stay in your cabin the entire time you're there, but it's also located pretty close to Sperryville and downtown Luray if you're looking to venture out. To fully take advantage of SME, I'd recommend bringing your own food or groceries to cook- there's not a whole lot close by (which is part of the charm!), but the kitchen is well-equipped with a microwave, oven, and stovetop. There's a pizza place that delivers right to the cabins, which is nice- honestly, the pizza isn't very good, but it's nice to have the option. There are also bottles of wine available for purchase in your cabin, which is nice to have available. You won't meet two nicer people than the owners of SME, Karen and Ralph. It is so clear how much they love SME and sharing their love of the property, which reflects their travels through Europe, with those who stay there. There will always be a delicious baked treat from Karen waiting in your cabin when you arrive, and if you're lucky, she or Ralph will show you around the property and tell you about the structures, all of which were built by Ralph and designed by them both. They are so friendly and kindhearted and make it such a special place to stay. As just one example- it snowed one of the nights we stayed, and Ralph cleared off our car without us even asking. SME feels so calm and peaceful- it's a true VA oasis. We're already planning our next trip back!

This is a HUGE complex spanning MILKED of mountainous territory. We stayed at the summit condos. This location was about 3 miles away from anything else on the property. Due to this anytime anyone had something scheduled to do we had to arrange how to get people from point a to b with only one car. This proved to be a HUGE hassle. The rooms - well ours needed a BIG update. The furniture was horrid. The couch cushions flattened into nothing and you sunk in the couch anytime you tried to sit. The best thing that could have happened to any of the living room furniture was to throw it off the deck. The bed was a giant non supportive marshmallow that caused me GREAT back pain. You could literally feel the dents from where people slept on it. It was awful. The kitchen was ok as passable at best. It had the world's loudest ice maker and dishwasher I've ever heard. Both looked like they belonged in the 90s. Onto the activities. Beware you will be nickled and dimed for EVERYTHING and that is so not a joke. The one class that cost $15 was for the kids to make a gnome home. They used an old milk carton and about $2 in crafting items. I'm probably being generous saying it was $2 of crafting material total. The escape rooms didn't work right and actually broke while we were there. On and beware things shut down on Thursdays for whatever reasons. So literally we went into town and spent time there cuz there was nothing to do on the resort. The pools are ok sized but have little to no shade. What shade that was there was quickly gobbled up by seat hogs that refused to move. I'm convinced people walked in saved their seats and left. The amount of stuff on chairs did not match the number of people who were there. This made the pool extremely hot and uncomfortable on the extremely hot days when we were there. Overall we traveled with 6 kids ranging in ages from 15-22. All were bored by day 3 and looking for things in town to do. Beware of the super strong timeshare pitch that you will be contacted about. While the tour they gave was nice there's no way I'd buy a timeshare there. Would not do again.

The cabin across from us had a group of men who were drunk, loud and obnoxious and nothing was done. The owners live right below that cabin and had to have heard them because we were the only other cabin occupied. We wanted to spend a long weekend just relaxing and couldn't sit outside not only due to how loud they were, but the obscene language that was used. Also, I know it was off season, but we couldn't even go for much of a walk on the grounds due to horse manure all over the place. Area was nice, but we wouldn't be staying there again.

We had a decent experience here, with the exception of the mildew/mold smell, that smacked us in the face as soon as we walked in. From that, to the loose flickering lights, loose wall outlets, and it not being the cleanest of cabins. We certainly tried to make the best of what i ended up paying $645 to rent out for the wknd of Nov 15th. So much so, we had to go out and spend even more money, for an air purifier... air sanitizing spray... and scented wall plug ins. Just to try and sanitize the air and mask the smell, making it a little more tolerable. So my birthday, our anniversary, and also now engaged/engagement wknd, wasn't a complete bust! Besides the issues with what i just mentioned. What i find to be more troublesome and just plain careless! When i addressed this via email to Tom, one of the owners of these cabins, at email - HotTubHeaven@yahoo.com I never received any response! Not your typical/automatic sorry about yalls experience in our cabin, or welp sucks to be you, nope no response what so ever! The kicker is, my gal Amber has a rare genetic lung condition called alpha 1 antitrypsin deficiency. So things like dust, certain pet dander, smoke, and absolutely mold/mildew in the air. Is very hard on her lungs and her body! She is now nearly a wk later, starting to feel a small amount of relief. From our wknd getaway to hot tub (not quite) heaven! Disclaimer: My review herein, is not to get any kind of future free stays. As we are not interested! It's also not to get any money back. As funds received should definitely be used, to take much better care of cabins! Nor is it to cause Tom and Deneane to loose business. It is simply to make others aware of potential conditions as these.
