Our second try... the first was in March, we missed the ski season, so we came back for summer. Seriously disappointed that the water park was $370 for a family of 4! That's more than Hershey Park, Kings Dominion, and Water Park USA. Which all have better water parks. However.... We loved the recreation water park and just did that 4 days, the kids love it, indoor and outdoor. Zip lining, summer tubing, go karts etc... we had fun. read more

I waited a week to see if my attitude towards vacation has changed and I'm sorry to say it hasn't. If your going to this resort becuase your thinking it's like the hotel in dirty dancing - your in for a BIG shock. This is a HUGE complex spanning MILKED of mountainous territory. We stayed at the summit condos. This location was about 3 miles away from anything else on the property. Due to this anytime anyone had something scheduled to do we had to arrange how to get people from point a to b with only one car. This proved to be a HUGE hassle. The rooms - well ours needed a BIG update. The furniture was horrid. The couch cushions flattened into nothing and you sunk in the couch anytime you tried to sit. The best thing that could have happened to any of the living room furniture was to throw it off the deck. The bed was a giant non supportive marshmallow that caused me GREAT back pain. You could literally feel the dents from where people slept on it. It was awful. The kitchen was ok as passable at best. It had the world's loudest ice maker and dishwasher I've ever heard. Both looked like they belonged in the 90s. Onto the activities. Beware you will be nickled and dimed for EVERYTHING and that is so not a joke. The one class that cost $15 was for the kids to make a gnome home. They used an old milk carton and about $2 in crafting items. I'm probably being generous saying it was $2 of crafting material total. The escape rooms didn't work right and actually broke while we were there. On and beware things shut down on Thursdays for whatever reasons. So literally we went into town and spent time there cuz there was nothing to do on the resort. The pools are ok sized but have little to no shade. What shade that was there was quickly gobbled up by seat hogs that refused to move. I'm convinced people walked in saved their seats and left. The amount of stuff on chairs did not match the number of people who were there. This made the pool extremely hot and uncomfortable on the extremely hot days when we were there. Overall we traveled with 6 kids ranging in ages from 15-22. All were bored by day 3 and looking for things in town to do. Beware of the super strong timeshare pitch that you will be contacted about. While the tour they gave was nice there's no way I'd buy a timeshare there. Would not do again. read more

Horrible experience and atrocious customer service. On 05/31/26, I received a phone call from this resort offering what was described as a special promotion. I was told, verbatim, that they were "rolling out the red carpet" for me, my wife, and our three young children to attend a presentation in exchange for a complimentary stay. We scheduled our overnight stay for 06/06/26, with the presentation set for 8:00 AM on 06/07/26. We drove six hours each way specifically for this promotion. Upon arrival, we were informed that amenities we had been promised, including access to the water park, were not included. We were then told that the tours had been overbooked and that our presentation would need to be rescheduled to later the following day--well after our checkout time--which simply would not work for our family. The staff, particularly the managers, were some of the rudest and most unprofessional employees I have ever encountered. Rather than attempting to resolve the situation, we were repeatedly told to call various phone numbers ourselves. No one showed any genuine concern or willingness to help. I was so shocked by the lack of professionalism that I recorded my interaction with Assistant Manager Joanne, who refused to involve another manager and repeatedly instructed me to call different numbers the next day to address the issues. When those numbers were called, no one answered except for one employee who informed us that we had reached the wrong department. The entire experience was a disaster, and we hadn't even made it out of the lobby. Another employee continued asking whether we still wanted to stay. After explaining that we no longer wished to remain given everything that had happened--but that they already had our deposit--she abruptly canceled our reservation and walked away, stating that she was done speaking with us. As a result, we packed up our family and drove another six hours back home. We wasted an entire weekend, spent countless hours traveling with three young children, and were treated with complete indifference and disrespect. I would strongly caution others against booking based on promotional offers from this establishment, as our experience was nothing short of unacceptable. read more

Stayed in hotel 5, took me back to the 90s because this place has not been updated since. Thankful I had Clorox wipes with me because our room was given probably less than 5 mins to get cleaned. The furniture is outdated, the pillows have lumps, and I could hear everybody and their mamas conversations. When my husband went to check in they asked him weird questions like "Are you married?" Or "is your wife here" when he responded yes. Saying they wanted feedback for further hotels with pools. Trying to get him in for a free breakfast (probably for a timeshare.) Room has a fridge, coffee maker, ice bucket, two beds, two sinks, shower with tub, two tables, tv, lights, and closet. There is a balcony with a table and two chairs as well. Out in the hall you have the ice maker, microwave, and vending machine. Overall, not bitter but not worth the price we paid. read more

We've owned a timeshare here for about 25 years. Below, I summarize some of the activities that we participated in during our week-long stay in Oct 2025. *Accommodations (Rating: 4.5/5). We stayed in a lower unit of a Woodstone townhouse, with our patio directly facIng the pond, with a view of the water fowl on the pond and deer on the lawn. The unit seems to have been updated fairly recently, and had everything we needed and more. The unit was clean. Special touches were the large whirlpool tub in the master bedroom, fireplace in the living room, and laundry in the foyer. Kudos to maintenance for quickly fixing a broken slat on the boardwalk leading into our unit and for helping us with a firestick for one of the TVs. Slight reduction in rating because pillows were lumpy and knives in kitchen were dull. *Welcome Event. (Monday, Free. 5/5). This was described as: "Enjoy a taste of the Valley as you shop with local artisans and business owners. Sample our culinary treats as you mingle with Resort guests and staff while listening to live music." This was great! Massanutten provided a self-serve small buffet of hearty snacks -- meatballs, shrimp with cocktail sauce, crackers and a variety of cheeses, pretzels, and more. They also provided water, or you could purchase beer and wine samples (5 for $5). The entertainment was by singer/songwriter/guitarist Caleb Stine, who played a variety of Americana, folk, and country. We also browsed through the tables set up by local businesses, and noted that Massanutten reps were on hand for questions. The resort also had a raffle every 15 minutes for $20 in Mad Money to be used at the resort. *Owner Update/Timeshare Presentation (4/5). Upon being offered a generous $300 in Mad Money, plus a full buffet breakfast at Splashes, we decided to attend. The process was rather inefficient, with having to drive "up the mountain" from our unit to check-in at the conference center, driving back down for the breakfast, then back up to tour one of the Summit/Hillside units. The sales pitch was aggressive, and required meeting with three layers of sales people and managers, but everyone was respectful. The whole process took 2.5 hours from check-in. *Shops (3/5). We visited two of the Massanutten shops: The General Store, in the heart of the Ski Area and The Market, located near Woodstone. Between them, the stores offer outdoor outfitter merchandise (apparel, accessories, footwear, gloves), resort souvenir shop (Massanutten logo T-shirts), mugs, magnets, key rings, etc., hot beverages, fishing licenses and equipment rentals, Virginia-made foods and drinks (Virginia craft beer, wines, peanuts, jams and jellies), and even Virginia lottery. While the quality of the merchandise was excellent, we bought very little (local Jam, a magnet, and ice cream) -- as we found the shops to be expensive. *Shuffleboard, corn hole outdoor games (free, 5/5). Massanutten offers free rental of equipment for outdoor games, as well as jigsaw puzzles, board games, etc. The courts and outdoor areas were well-maintained, and playing outdoors in the cool autumn air was very pleasant. *Kaylor Knob Hike (free, 4/5). My husband hiked this moderately-rated 3.5 mile (out & back) trail with 495' elevation gain, accessible from Del Webb Drive. The trail travels up through the forest towards the peak at a summit elevation at 2,980'. While partially wooded, there are some nice views of the surrounding ridge lines and valleys. I declined because of the rocky terrain. *Scenic Chairlift Ride ($15, $12 with Gold Card, 5/5). This is a fun and photo-worthy activity during the fall foliage season. You take the Creekside Lift to the middle of the ski slope, and then transfer to the Express Lift to the top. Operators are willing to stop the chairlift for riders who were unable to jump off easily. At the top, there's a short, but steep, hike up to another observation point for an unparalleled view of the valley. *Restaurants/bars/entertainment. See our separate Yelp reviews for dinner at the Campfire Grill, and multiple evenings at the Base Camp (Grilling on the Deck; Wind Down Wednesday (Josh Davidson), and entertainer Allen Dale Sizemore). Some activities that we enjoyed away from resort included: *Walking around the tranquil Edith J Carter Arboretum in Harrisonburg. It's also next to a Costco. *Leaf-peeping at Shenandoah National Park/ Stoney Mountain hike. *Elkton Autumn Festival. *Browsing New to Me Furniture and More shop in Elkton. *In summary, we had a lovely time at Massanutten for our autumn vacation. That said, we were disappointed at how expensive a vacation there has become. There is the annual maintenance fee for our timeshare, a mandatory activities fee ($70-ish) upon check-in, and pricey shops and fee-based activities. In addition, the number of free activities has decreased over time. For instance, water aerobics used to be free but now costs $8/person. read more

We paid nearly $300 for one night, and the condition of our room was completely unacceptable. I formally reported these issues to management during our stay, but my request was closed without any response, which was very disappointing. The room had several issues, including an extremely uncomfortable bed, distorted TV color, and an electrical issue with the bathroom light, raising safety concerns. The bathroom had visible mold in multiple areas, the mirror appeared to have significant residue or mold, and there was blood on the refrigerator handle, all indicating serious cleanliness failures. In addition the walls and floors are so thin anytime some walks past the room it sounded like bass in the room keeping us awake most of the night. The heat did not function properly, leaving the room excessively warm even when turned off. In addition, two of the provided room keys did not work, creating ongoing access problems. The pool area was overcrowded to the point of not wanting to even go in the area. Given the lack of response from management, I am sharing this review in hopes of prompting appropriate follow-up and resolution. When guest concerns are left unresolved, it limits the available paths for addressing billing and service discrepancies. I would welcome a direct response from management and believe a refund or at least partial refund would be appropriate because we could have stayed at a standard Comfort Inn, gotten much nicer facilities and a free breakfast for a portion of the cost. Edited to provide my response to the manager: Mike -- side note: the email address you asked me to send my concerns to is the same email address that reviewed my complaint and closed it without ever contacting me. I followed the process exactly as directed and later received a response from Mr. Michael offering a complimentary return stay. Given the experience our family had, we will not be returning to Massanutten. I did respond to Mr. Michael directly and hope he is able to help make this situation right. For a resort that actively solicits owners, I would expect visiting families to receive an exceptional experience. That was not the case for us. We would have gladly paid more for clean, quiet accommodations, clear guidance upon arrival, and basic customer service -- including someone who could answer questions and advise us on available options. Had we known the condition and quality of the accommodations in advance, we would have chosen Wintergreen instead and avoided this experience altogether. Edit review based on Management response: The Manager, Mike was very understanding and listened to my concerns. He provided a partial refund of the cost paid for the stay and offered a return visit. He showed me photos of the newer rooms which look very nice. If we choose to come back I look forward to staying in a newer unit and enjoying the vacation. Very disappointing for $200 a night For a resort charging $200 per night, I expected a clean, comfortable and well-maintained room. Unfortunately, that was not our experience. The condition of the room was unacceptable. The air-conditioning unit was old and extremely unattractive, there was visible damage and wear throughout the room, and the flooring and baseboards were dirty and poorly maintained. There were also noticeable scratches and damage to the furniture/doors. These aren't minor cosmetic issues for a property charging $200 a night--they give the impression that the room has not been properly maintained or updated in a very long time. For that price, guests should be able to expect a room that is clean, fresh, well-maintained and worthy of a resort. Unfortunately, this room fell far short of those expectations. $200 a night should buy a much better experience. I would not stay here again and cannot recommend it at all Trying to post pictures of mold, beat up furniture etc but post wont let me. They are building alot of new things but completely neglecting what they currently have. Our room was a time machine to the 80's. Ice machine looked like ferral raccoons lived in it. Tv was same size as my phone screen and didn't work properly. You have to get a parking pass to not get a ticket, but to get pass you have to listen to a 15 minute sale pitch on selling you your next stay. We said no at least 5 times before she finally gave us our parking pass. It is a lot of money to go 40 years back in time read more

The one BR room we were assigned was huge! It had a jacuzzi tub in the MBR and the bathroom was large enough to have a 2-person shower. Two sinks and plenty of space around. The kitchen was spacious with an ice maker in a full-size fridge, a dishwasher, oven and range. Large LR with ~50" LED TV and electric fireplace with ceiling fan above. Very nicely appointed. Only negative on the room was the window in the MBR was floor to ceiling and the headboard was against it so most was covered except the very top. That is where light came in at night keeping the room kind of lit. We stuffed a large bath towel there to block the light. We also went snow tubing. It was a blast! the 'track' was very fast b/c the temps were so low (9dF). I was worried about my hip replacement (Oct 2024) but was not bothered at all. We went up and down until we were tired. We also drove to the Mid Mountain Grill but parked up the hill from it to avoid the potential issue on the dirt road to the grill. So we walked. The Mid Mountain Grill was all out doors but had restrooms that were heated. They offered wraps, burgers, beers, drinks, and seltzers. Very loud but a cool place...no pun intended. read more

Quaint little getaway. Recently visited for a girls bday weekend. Accommodations were clean and adequately sized. If you have more than 5-6 people, I'd suggest renting a bigger house as they don't have 3 bedroom townhomes to rent. Premises were well lit and clean. If I could give this place a 0 I would. First, the waterpark is NOT including in your stay so be prepared to dish out an extra $300 for a family of 4. The place is dated. Feels like your stuck in the 80's with old rides. Small indoor and outdoor park. Dorney park is cheaper, bigger, and has way more rides. The rooms are decent but you don't have soap, toothbrush, or shampoo to clean your body. We booked a condo and there's was no salt or pepper, nothing. The thing that sent me to the point that I would NEVER return is YOU HAVE TO PAY FOR EXTRA TOWELS or LINENS. I paid $600 for 2 nights and I wasted my money. They advertised on Groupon that a waterpark is included and it's NOT. Be aware before you end up wasting $1000 dollars like I did for 2 nights! Absolutely unbelievable. Romantic Get Away with Wife- Gone Bad !!!!!!!!!!! Hotel and amenities: So, I wanted to surprise my wife over the weekend and take her somewhere she has always wanted to visit. I picked Massanutten REsport. Looked through web site, hotel rooms, views, amedities, ect. Looked cool, relaxing and a nice break from day to day. The pictures on the site were geourgeous views and the hotel rooms, spacicious, and with a balcont and large bathroom, done deal for me. -EPIC FAIL!!! The room was on the third floor, not very spacious, like the pictures, nice balcony and view of trees and a small view of mountains. The room itself was from 1981. Direct TV with 22 Channels and a DVD Player- No Microwave- they had 2 communal ones in the Ice Machine room. The walls were beige and the bathroom sink stained and looked at least 20 years old. Clean but so old and antiquated that it ruined the mood. Then.... FOOD: Food Critic Review: Great Views, Terrible Food, and an Experience We'd Rather Forget There are not many choices (Base Camp, Camp Fire, a Pizza place and BB@ - Off the mountain, small grocery store with WAY overpriced food and horrible coffe- and all are plain, overpriced and food is blah to horrible. My wife and I recently planned a much-needed romantic weekend getaway, hoping to enjoy the beautiful scenery, relaxing atmosphere, and local dining. The destination delivered on the views and activities--but unfortunately, our dining experience at Camp Fire Grill was one of the worst we've had in years. Dinner Experience We started with high hopes. My wife ordered the steak, and I chose the Chicken Pot Pie. We also ordered cornbread and Tomato Florentine Soup as appetizers. Unfortunately, things went downhill quickly. Appetizers took over 35 minutes to arrive and were served cold. The Tomato Florentine Soup was bland and lacked any discernible flavor. My Chicken Pot Pie arrived only lukewarm and was completely under-seasoned. My wife's steak was so overcooked, dry, and unappetizing that it was nearly inedible. It looked as though it had been sitting for hours before being served. After sending it back, the replacement dish wasn't much better--she managed only a few bites before giving up. The atmosphere didn't help matters either. While a lively restaurant can be enjoyable, this evening felt more chaotic than welcoming. Between screaming children, loud guests, and constant distractions throughout the dining area, it was difficult to enjoy what was supposed to be a relaxing dinner. To their credit, management removed $10 from the bill, but on a $65 dinner, that didn't come close to making up for the disappointing meal and overall experience. "Maybe It Was Just a Busy Night?" That's exactly what we thought. So we gave them another opportunity and returned the next morning for breakfast. Big mistake. Breakfast Buffet Review The buffet offered all the standard breakfast options: eggs, bacon, sausage, grits, fruit, French toast sticks, biscuits, muffins, and coffee. Here's how it went: The eggs appeared highly processed, formed into perfect squares and lacked both texture and flavor. The sausage was difficult to identify and tasted heavily processed. The bacon was excessively salty and overcooked. The grits were swimming in grease and butter to the point they were nearly inedible. The French toast sticks tasted like frozen, pre-packaged products that had been over-fried. Even the muffins were dry and hard. The only enjoyable item was the fresh fruit. As for the coffee, it was weak, bitter, and forgettable. After spending $57 for breakfast for two, we left still hungry and ended up driving several miles to Starbucks just to get something edible. read more

Massa-nothing is what the name should be. Our room was dirty, damp, musty with safety concerns. We brought this to management attention and was told the premium rooms were reserved for owners. Who would have thought we needed to buy a time share to earn dry bedding and have the trash taken out. From start to finish every interaction with staff was awful. The only good experiences we had when left the resort to eat and do other activities since the indoor waterpark, gym and arcade were closed. Hopefully you get to avoid Chris the sales manager. I haven't never met a more arrogant and disrespectful person in my life. He thrives on belittling his staff and seems to think it's a solid sales tactic. We chose Massanutten for our first time skiing because the price was good for classes and lift ticket. We were lucky that the day we went it was not so packed. It was raining that day and from the stories we heard around the resort, the lines were really short compared to other weekends. Their phone recording says to arrive an hour and a half early for lessons. There were a lot of instructors for the classes. Our group only had 5 people, so those of us that struggled were able to get more one-on-one assistance from the instructor. I spent about 2 hours getting the hang of the slope on Paul's Way (which I guess is equivalent to a bunny slope). From there, I still had 2 hours left on my lift pass. I tried my luck on the easiest green slope (The one along the creek side). It was really fun! Afterwards, it was an easy time returning the gear we rented. And the restaurants are really close by for dinner. This a great resort to visit in Virginia. I would love to go back again. read more

I'm writing this review at 11:30 pm after driving 2.5 hours at night to escape this place. We were here for a total of 24 hours. I only heard about it because I was randomly called by a young woman saying that I won some kind of promotion, which I think was fake. I don't know how she got my phone number, but she invited us to stay for a weekend for basically free with $250 spending money and an additional 4 day hotel stay in another city if we attended a "tour", which turned out to be a timeshare sales pitch from hell. What I found interesting about this place is that none of the employees actually knew anything about it. They couldn't tell me times for the indoor water park, whether the water was even heated or not, where to go or sign up for a different activities, prices on anything, etc. It felt like the employees didn't care about anything and the whole place felt disorganized. The sales pitch was truly horrible. It was difficult to find, and then once we did, the tour ended up being over 2.5 hours when it was only supposed to be 90 minutes as written in the confirmation letter. The second person we were forced to talk to was named Larry and he was incredibly rude and aggressive, making assumptions about our finances and even questioning our parenting for why we would bring our toddler to the timeshare presentation (as if we had a choice when they require both adults attend). The third guy was named Tony and by that time I was incredibly frustrated by how long the tour had gone over the required time. When I brought this up politely, he kept repeating "it takes time to sell time" which made no sense. He was also incredibly rude. Luckily we were finally able to escape. Then of course the certificate for the 4 day/3 night stay at another city turned out to be invalid when I tried to register it. When I called the resort, they gave me another number to call during business hours at another office and they couldn't fix it. The whole thing made no sense and it's still not a valid certificate, so that was a waste of time. The only redeeming part of this experience was the water park, which I will review separately as that was great though also very overpriced. I found the food options while staying for the 24 hours we were here very lacking. Service was extremely slow or even nonexistent with no accountability at every place we went to, which will also be separate reviews. For basic room amenities: we stayed in a 1 bedroom condo which was clean and functional. There was no lotion in the room. It was impossible to get any service for anything. I listened through their annoying teleprompt message to finally find the front desk and requested extra towels and soap. These of course never came. The TVs didn't have Netflix or YouTube, just some basic cable channels. There were no wifi instructions in the room, but we figured out it was an open wifi. The connection didn't even work at all the 2nd day we were here. We had to use our phones as hotspots to get wifi for our laptops. Any basic Quality Inn hotel would have been better than this so-called resort. It felt like you were really trapped in the resort with nothing to eat or really do that wasn't exorbitantly priced. It was so stressful to get food or basic hotel items as mentioned above due to the non-existent service that I would rather just be at home. We were so bored and irritated this evening that we decided to just drive back home even though we had another night free as part of their promotion. Overall, I'm happy we didn't spend any money on this trip besides gas, but I would definitely never come here again. read more

The best part of this resort are the views. Where we stayed, we got a gorgeous view of the mountains, and the hiking was pretty good. The rooms are nice enough but are configured so that a two bedroom is basically two separate apartments, which was strange and probably unnecessary but nice for some privacy. The gyms are also very nice and there are two of them. I didn't play golf but the courses look solid. Then, the bad. For a place like this that tries so hard to have you buy a timeshare here, maybe they shouldn't let every single local in to their pools and rec centers. Every single pool, basketball court, and game room was filled with the rudest people, most of whom were clearly locals. The campfire grill is actually very good but every other restaurant was not. Also, while we had some very nice workers help us, a lot of them had no clue what was going on. Overall, I don't think I can recommend it. The surrounding area is gorgeous, but just find somewhere else that doesn't let locals in. read more

I already left a Google review but I had to update it and leave an additional review here. We went this June for my daughter's birthday and it was not worth the money. The packages are a rip-off; the hotels were old and poorly maintained, more like roadside motels. Nothing is included in your package except 2 tickets to the water park for one day. Every single thing else you have to pay for. The restaurants on-site and off-site rotate the days they are open, so very inconvenient. The beds were so bad in the hotel that my 14-year-old's back was hurting and we left after only one night of our two-night stay. When we checked in were were greeted with annoyance and rushed through the line. I explained all of this on my Google review and they replied with their corporate BS and told me I should contact the desk manager and speak with them about my check-in. They already verified my stay with my email they can do the work of seeing who checked me in and deal with that, why should I have to do that for them? I tell all my friends to stay away from this place,,literally told a friend Saturday not to take her daughter for her birthday in September. Then today they called me about a raffle for a free stay that I entered while we waited in line at the water park. When I heard it was a timeshare pitch I said, " No, thank you you can go to the next person on the list and he hung up on me! I hated my first experience now you want to try to sell me on another bad vacation! Then hang up on me when I say no thank you! My husband and I brought our 4- and 6-year-olds skiing for the first time, and while we had a bit of a rocky start -- equipment issues, a tearful child, and warm weather -- the ski school team completely turned our experience around. Julie Dillenbeck was incredibly accommodating, patient, and kind. She met us with calm reassurance and made what could have been an overwhelming situation feel manageable and positive. The following day, she and several other instructors remembered my daughter and made a genuine effort to help her feel comfortable and encouraged. That level of attention and care does not go unnoticed. Kindness truly matters, especially when little ones are trying something new and parents are holding their breath. Good parts- the vacation home designs were well thought out for groups of people, parking and amenities are solid. The bathrooms and supplies are perfect for a week or so stay. Traveling into town isn't a difficult thing. There's plenty of activities for all types of adventuring all around. You've got extra blankets, ice makers, toaster ovens, decent cooking supplies, pools, restaurants, hiking trails, and mountain views that look glorious when storms roll in and out. Beds are comfy and blackout curtains truly the best. Bad parts- There's zero sound barriers inside the homes, bring ear plugs if you want any quiet during sleep or expect to be up with whoever is also up cause there's no keeping sound down. This IS a timeshare spot, they WILL try to get you into more. The beds show having covers but if you lift the mattresses- they have holes so not at all protecting. There will be extra fees. Some pools offer towels for free, some will make you pay. You cannot walk anywhere, you'll need to drive to any activity. Some areas are showing age and could use a refresh while other areas seem new and developing like a bigger water park area. One of our group tried a lot of the resort activities and had mixed results- the crafts and hill hike were fantastic. The scuba posted times were wrong so they missed that. I find their user interface pretty untenable to understand what to pay for and where each thing is at each time so I didn't try. I loved trying the different included pools- the basic Z shaped pool which was full but not insanely crowded and hourly adult swim only times, the main resort pool was also crowded and they have a lovely picnic pavilion in shade to have food and drink first come first serve. The set up with a toddler area kept the young ones out. The indoor pool area seemed a fun alternative and I didn't try the sauna rooms but they looked nice. The activities center pool was usually less crowded but echoing, and the gym is full of equipment for anyone's preferences and used pretty well. The large hot tub was more a warm tub but a nice option after a swim. They are building a roller coaster to go through some of the resort area. I do not know how safe that will be with potentially people losing stuff in their pockets and flying onto cars below or the noise as they go right past some areas. Time will tell. One thing I recommend is to drive up to the Kaylor's Knob lookout point just before sunset, that's a nice memory to take back with you especially on a clear day. read more

Just checked in for a weekend getaway. I arrived like so had to check in late. Was a little bit of a line but it moved pretty quickly. After checking in I had to go to another location for a parking pass. Always so annoying because they tried to get me to sign up for the "free breakfast" with a brief overview of the resort. Nothing more than a timeshare pitch and it's never brief so I declined. After getting to me room everything appeared in order. Room was clean and had all the essentials. The only issue was the old corroded shower head that looked like it should have been replaced years ago. Room was a good size and more than enough room to accommodate 4 people. One bedroom with a sleeper sofa. You could opt for a two bedroom if you chose but that would have been a bit more. I had my daughter with me so for the weekend one bedroom was enough. I will check out the other amenities tomorrow and give an update. After my first night in I have to drop their rating down a bit. Noticed the shower had cracks in it. I also noticed that they tried to renovate the place but the painters missed a lot of spots and spilled a lot of paint. Looks like the tried the old land lord special. The worst part of my evening was the paper thin walls and ceilings. You could hear every step and complete conversations for the people upstairs. read more

Will say we were a little bit hesitant initially because of the reviews, however, totally glad I still made the trip because it did not disappoint!!! We did a full day of adventures, including tubing, skiing and drinks at night. Tubing: Definitely one of the best I've experienced! Runs were very long and staff kept everything very organized. Skiing: When it came to the skiing, even though the tickets and equipment pickup was a little long, the wait was worthwhile as the lifts themselves are very efficient in getting people on and the runs are long and totally worth it! For those hesitating about coming for skiing and or tubing, I would definitely recommend it!!! read more

Came in on a promotion. Haven't visited in 10 years. Young lady at the counter wasn't friendly. No smile but wasn't disrespectful. We go to our unit Eagle Condos on mountain. Outdated and not like the places my family and I normally stay but once again, no biggie. My wife always disinfectant the unit. As I start my check I find several move droppings in the kitchen cabinets (I have pics). We immediately left. Went to the front desk and asked for a manager. Nice young lady apologized and placed us in Woodstone. Much better. I'm tall and I could tell the fridge hasn't been dusted this year. Our bedroom TV barely worked. Kept getting message UNFORTUNATELY, THIS CHANNEL IS TEMPORARILY UNAVAILABLE. I called maintenance and received a text goes later that the issue was resolved. I'm not sure how since no one came to the unit. I asked if this was done remotely. Sounds like they didn't want to answer. As I'm typing this I'm waiting for the maintenance person to show. We requested items from housekeeping twice and haven't received them in 24 hours. I have no problems going to get them. I normally do when we stay at one of our usual vacation places. I wanted to see if they would come. When I call back, I'm directed to a survey. Obviously they know it's me and won't answer. The sales pitch is the same. Start you at $35,000 to purchase. Drop a few thousand. The second person comes in and offers you a price in the teens. You walk out the day and they offer you $5000. Doesn't matter what you have going on in your life, they really want to sell. Basically it seems like owners are treated better than guest. Waiting 10 years to return wasn't a mistake, it was a blessing. Not the best customer service. Camp For Grill couldn't get a order for 3 people correct. read more

Decent price. The room was huge/spacious with everything you need for a trip except for the groceries. Fun if you like to ski/snowboard but can't imagine going here other seasons. Just don't fall for the time share scam. Had a nice deal for 4x days and 3 night stay for about $100ish. Was forced to go on a "tour" or else they triple charge you for the stay. The tour was all them trying to hard-sell you on buying a timeshare regardless of your income/credit score. Massanutten has a large number of problems, many of which could be solved with better people-centric signage and documentation, some of which will require more serious fixes. I planned a weekend here with my girlfriend to give snowboarding a try, as this was something I had wanted to do for a very long time. While the hotel didn't have great reviews, I figured it would be best to stay on-site in the interest of saving time. The first red flag of the experience was receiving a "welcome" call from Massanutten in anticipation of my visit, which turned out to be a thinly-veiled attempt to cajole me into going to a timeshare sales pitch in exchange for a gift card. News flash: if you have to give a ton of stuff away just to get folks to listen to your offer, you're selling a bad product. Another red flag was how long it took Massanutten to update their winter sports page to indicate key information for the upcoming season; I essentially had to rent our hotel room blind since I could not see lesson info until the month we were actually going on the trip. When we finally arrived, I tried to come into it with an open mind, but we had issues almost immediately when the instructions we received during check-in at the lobby (which is super far from the hotels themselves) were unclear regarding the location of Hotel 6, which we found directly above the administrative/security offices at Massanutten. Bad directions plus very poor on-site signage made navigation here a pain, not only to our hotel room but even to get our rental gear and where we were/weren't allowed to park. To save time on the day of our lesson, we opted to grab our rental gear the night before, and let me tell you: you have never experienced a more unclear, opaque experience than this. There were barely any staff around to guide folks and we were in good company of confused customers not sure what to do. We eventually figured out it was all very rough self-service: figure out your own helmet size, figure out your own check-in info, figure out what to do with your gear after you receive it, and figure out how to do returns later, with no paperwork or confirmation emails for your records. God help you if someone steals your return before it gets checked back in, you're on the hook for the cost. The hotel itself was roughly what I expected at this point: cheaply-appointed and maintained, barely clean/functional, and ZERO air circulation in the rooms. What I didn't expect was a poor engineering design that led to our door slamming every time someone else opened/closed a door nearby, requiring us to place a chair against the door just to cut down on the noise. This is clear evidence that Massanutten does not actually pay attention to their own offerings in terms of quality. We had a weird gathering of ladybugs in the corner of our room too, not sure what that was about. As you will no doubt guess, the day of our lessons was no better: we received barely any guidance from on-site staff, there were WAY TOO MANY learners for such a small slope which led to backups and collisions, "instructors" were nothing more than kids with some experience without a clear lesson format, and the slope itself was PURE ICE rather than snow, making it incredibly difficult to actually nail slide-stops and thus progress in lessons, leading to falls all over the place, including for my girlfriend and I. We were in bad shape after only a few runs, as were the only learners in our group, and while we gave it our best shot we had to stop after an hour of the lesson to avoid more serious injuries. Make no mistake though, we were quite hurt after our experience here and I remain in pain as I type this. Small wonder they have signs up everywhere reminding you they have no liability for your injuries. There are two key underpinning factors that led to all of these issues: cheap owners and bad organizational management. Better signage (including an online step by step flow for those taking lessons or renting equipment) would go a long way, but their poor setup of the learning area, jamming too many learners into too small a space, bad slope maintenance, and hiring the cheapest people they could find to be "instructors" indicate the real problem here is their drive for profitability over quality of experience. For $175 a person for a mere two hour lesson, you would expect a lot more, same for the hotel room being $220+ a night yet having more in common with budget hotels than a "resort" quality stay. I am very glad my girlfriend and I ate at restaurants off-resort, as they were excellent (try Gogi-Wa and Ciro's Italian Eatery) and I am sure we would have been extremely disappointed by the resort's own offerings. I imagine this place might be acceptable for experienced snowboarders who want to rent their equipment and use the slopes while staying and dining off-site, though every other kind of consumer should keep far away from Massanutten and consider other spots first. read more

Massanutten has a lot of potential, but hasn't reached it yet. I found out about this resort through an advertisement that offered a 3 night stay for $80 plus a $50 gift card to attend a timeshare talk. What sold me was that this was advertised as a ski resort. I'll give a play by play of my stay to highlight the pros and cons. I stayed at the Shenandoah vistas which were hotel style rooms with adjoining spaces, separated by two sided, lockable doors. The rooms were clean, if bare...only bar soap is provided so you need to bring your own shampoo and there is no Kleenex. The rooms aren't sound proofed so you hear everything going on in adjoining rooms. The fireplace kept shutting off every couple minutes and after calling maintenance multiple times the first night, I gave up on using it. Oddly for a time share advert, these aren't the spaces they're trying to sell to you. The actual condos are much nicer and I find it hard to understand why they wouldn't offer a stay in those if they truly are trying to solicit your business. They claim to be selling an experience, but honestly the experience was pretty confusing. I arrived on Thursday afternoon and at the reception desk, I was greeted by new international employees and my questions were deferred to the concierge desk and the check in was frustrating because of limited communication. I was told of my scheduled timeshare talk at check-in and asked if I could change to a different time since I had already bought ski lift tickets. I was told that I would need to call a number to do that. The number had limited operating hours and the office was closed. I left multiple voicemails and never got a call back. When I asked to speak to a supervisor about this, I was deferred. The directions and expectations given were generally poor and not well communicated. This was probably the worst experience of the trip. I had arrived very excited and with an open mind to purchasing a time share. This whole experience set the tone in a negative way that could have been wholly avoided with better customer service, significantly setting back my openness to any selling points for the rest of the trip. I actually enjoyed the timeshare talk. The man I was assigned to, Antonio, was knowledgeable and passionate about the product and I enjoyed some of the history he discussed about the location itself. He is quite good at what he does and I appreciated the in-depth tour of the facilities. Unfortunately, no matter how good he was, it didn't take away from the fact that the product itself needs improvement and what he was selling was potential. The weather wasn't optimal and I bought a two day ski pass that I ended up only using for half a day. I can't speak to the equipment rentals because I brought my own gear, but I did use the shop to adjust my bindings and they were friendly and competent. The slopes were pretty icy and could have stood to have more snow blown onto them...there were large patches of rocks and ground showing. They were enjoyable for what they were because they were so empty...if it was more crowded, these conditions would be dangerous. For $90/day lift passes with such a limited number of runs, I'd expect better conditions be maintained. The staff were friendly and welcoming for the most part. I did have a bizarre incident happen at the coffee bar, where I was waiting for a good ten minutes to use a bathroom and an employee very obviously cut the line as soon as the gentleman in front of me came out and held the door open for me to go in. She knew I was waiting and even made eye contact as she came out, without feigning an apology or "oops I didn't realize you were in line too". It was bizarre and describes this whole confusing experience; a mix of great experiences with terrible ones and not much overall standardization. Amenities are clean and well maintained. The workout room, dry, and wet saunas are well kept. I loved the little thoughtful touches like the eucalyptus scent in the steam sauna and that there are fairy lights everywhere to create a welcoming atmosphere. The fact that everything is an add-on is pretty off putting. I would prefer paying an extra 100 dollars to have yoga and exercise classes, locks on the locker room doors, etc. available without worrying about being charged; anything to make it feel more like a vacation and take away the anxiety of constantly feeling like im going to be upcharged. Generally, I came away feeling ok because of the steep discount I got to stay. Would I have been happy if I had paid full price? No, I honestly would have felt ripped off. All that to say, I think with better customer service and higher emphasis on experience, the resort could become the one stop shop community its hoping for. I honestly would have had a more favorable review if you had just charged more, and upped the experience quality and professionalism of guest/staff interactions. Can not begin to describe how miserable the process was to get rental equipment and ski on a day that wasn't busy. One hour and 45 from arrival to finally walking outside with gear. The only reason it went that fast was we prepaid. Our whole party got skipped dozens of times over because they said the party skipping had a lesson. Idiot didn't realize we had 3 lessons in our group. Which we were then extremely late to. Some of the staff members were extremely nice and helpful. The rental shop culture is lazy and slow and it seems the young people get a kick outta pissing people off with their slow pace and pathetic work ethic. How does management allow this? read more

Good resort, not worth the money and the customer service is atrocious. Was told to feed my family on $350/month to afford their timeshare. It's a resort, it's expensive. If you're retired and have money to burn, 5 stars every day. But for anyone else, it's not that worth it. I "won" a raffle for a free 2 night stay, and the lady who checked us in was extremely rude and acted like we were inconveniencing her as she failed to communicate properly. We were set to receive a gift card that was for on-site use only, but they only gave it to us after the "tour" that they scheduled for us 4 hours after our checkout time. The "tour" was a sales pitch, no surprise there, and Colby was friendly and personable and I believe accurately described the timeshare, and to be fair, the timeshare looks like it's of decent value... if you have more money to spend at the resort once you're there. Essentially you're locking into spending $1,000 a year to spend a week at Massanutten, an extra $300 to spend that week at an affiliated resort. You get a nice condo, multiple bedrooms, kitchen etc. Not awful, but you'd be a sucker if you took their first or second offer price. What was absolutely abysmally bad was when his "boss" came in and tried to intimidate me into forking over $200 a month and $2k on the spot. I told him the monthly fees would be a third of my monthly spending and I was told "sounds like you'd have 2 thirds left!" He told me that it's not a lot of money per month, yet $350/mo on groceries is a lot and could reasonably feed my family of 3. Said I'd like to go home and think about it, "there's nothing to think about." Awful human being, I wish I got his name because you have to be some sort of scum to try to convince someone to take a significant quality of life decline just so you can get a better bonus. Despicable behavior. Aside from that, every time customer service directed me one way, the next crew directed me to another. The only good customer service I received was with the housekeeping staff, but even they were smoking in front of the entrance way. They used to have go karts, not anymore. Beds were not comfortable, very obviously chosen to reduce stains as they were made of rubber. For the price they charge for these rooms, I expect better. read more

We stayed at Massanutten Resort this weekend with our kids during the winter storm. Our trip started out really nice, and there were some truly special family moments. We stayed in the Woodstone condos, and the unit was clean, spacious, and very comfortable. It gave us plenty of room to relax after long days of activities. Before the storm worsened, we visited the fitness and recreation center so the kids could ice skate and play basketball, which they really enjoyed. While we were there, we went out of our way to be friendly and helpful to other families taking photos for people and even helping give directions, even though we weren't familiar with the area ourselves. Unfortunately, that evening ended in a very disturbing way. When we returned to our vehicle, we found racist vandalism written across the hood. I have never experienced anything like that in my life, and it completely changed how safe and welcome we felt at the resort. Because the storm was getting worse and we are not experienced driving in those conditions, we did not feel safe trying to go anywhere else to report it that night. The recreation center had already closed early due to the weather, and the front desk and other offices had also shut down early. There was no clear way to immediately report what happened, which added to our fear and frustration in that moment. The next day, after the storm, my kids got to experience snow for the first time. They built a snowman, made snow angels, and we had a snowball fight. Seeing their excitement and joy in the snow was truly the highlight of our trip and a memory we'll always cherish. We also ran into issues when our flights were canceled due to the storm. I tried calling the front desk to extend our stay, but kept getting transferred to reception and told someone would call me back. I had to call multiple times before finally hearing from someone, all while worried about missing the 10 AM checkout since the front desk doesn't open until 9 AM. That added a lot of unnecessary stress during an already difficult travel situation. Massanutten has beautiful scenery, great family activities, and nice accommodations. However, the racism we experienced and the difficulty getting timely help during a weather emergency are serious issues that should be addressed. read more

This is our fourth visit, room was great, but the hallways smell like curry. It was large enough for a family of four. We are in a one bedroom condo. Clean and nice. I have no complaints with the room or check in. The won who checked us in was friendly and helpful. The girls wished the indoor pool at the resort Rec center stayed open a little longer than 7 but I think it was me t for afternoon activities. Tomorrow the indoor water park for the day. read more

Massanutten resort is wonderful although there were a few flaws like a very rude salesman getting mad for respectfully declining his offer. With a couple of pros being the rec center pool goes down to 12ft, and the water park is huge and has fun waterslides. Would recommend. One thing i forgot to mention is the condos. We spent Monday eve through Wednesday morning. Only two places were open to have a meal. They continue to put room numbers on the vehicle pass, which, in my opinion is a security issue. I was told the end date of stay is most important, why not put plate number and end date? The resort is doing a lot of new construction, to include: new hotel, adult water park, mountain coaster (cost to ride will probably high) and a senior 55+ living facility. They do not contact you when they find your lost items. They found my wife's wallet at the front desk. She did not know where she lost it. They had her phone number, but per policy they did not call her. I had to deal with the panic attack. I called the front desk and went to pick it up. First time snowboarding, and took an adult lesson with Gabriel(?), who was absolutely fantastic!! He helped us learn safely and gave great tips to help us get better! Definitely would recommend coming at least an hour before your lesson to have time to get anything you're missing (snow gloves, and then running to grab a second pair bc you've lost the first pair while getting your snowboard smh). The staff is so so friendly and thoroughly helpful! Will definitely come back, when conditions are maybe a little less windy/rainy, but still hd a great time! All the buildings are clustered together, which is helpful! The lockers in the rental area can reach capacity mid-day, but if you're able to snag one, it's helpful for storing water and shoes for the day. read more

We paid $25 per person to go to an escape room that was at the wrong address on the map, so we were late (I called and was told we have a grace period, but that one minute late got a call from them which really made me angry). THE ESCAPE ROOM WAS BROKEN, yet we still played with another family. We were not informed of any of this until we were inside the escape room. We ran out of time, trying to solve puzzles that don't notice you when they are complete, and half that didnt register as being complete. There were false puzzles. The hotel room has a WIFI router in the room, it doesn't work. The bed is so uncomfortable and hard. The sheets and comforter feels like plastic. There is not a microwave in the room, it is down the hall. The refrigerator is inside a cabinet and is not stable. The TV in the room is old, and the channels buffer and don't play. It says there is a DVD player, there is not. ​ The food at the campfire grill, was good. I got the smoked salmon salad, and my spouse got a burger. We both got sick the next morning. The Virginia BBQ and Pizza Co, is a waste of time and money. The pizza tastes like its from a concession stand, pre-made dough, and sauce straight from a jar.​ If you buy a fountain drink, you have to scan the cup to use the machine, then you have a set amount of time to dispense your drink. We booked a 4 day stay for my husband's birthday totally expecting a fun family vacation with all of the amenities available that was listed on the site. So we checked in Monday thinking we were going to be able to do the water park only to find that the hours were adjusted to 12-5 and our check in time was 5p although we got to check in a little earlier by the time we got checked in we would have had about an hour to play and its 30 a person. And the waterpark wasn't even open any other days of our stay, same with the big arcade. Then we thought welp, lets do the escape room , (Since we had toddlers we had to book in advance and we would have had to pay to fill any empty spots even though we would have booked privately ) tuesday we asked about them they were full and then we asked again wednesday the escape rooms were closed wednesday and Thursday. The go karts and bumper cars were also closed our whole stay. The only event we got to do as a family was bingo. All the weekly events also weren't family friendly either minus bingo. We wanted to do karoke which you guessed it, closed. They had snow tubing available but i was told it would be 34 each even for my toddler who would only be able to sit on our lap. The app had inaccurate open times for some of the restaurants. Most places to eat closed at 8 and some food places weren't even open everyday, so we ended up having to go off the resort to eat. So for $400+ we got to do two small arcades, go to the children's pool and play bingo. Definitely felt our family vacation was a waste of a trip and expenses and i wasn't able to give my husband the birthday experience i hyped him up to. (I.e he was excited for go karts, bumper cards with the kids, play in the water park, play in snow) etc The highlight of our stay was our room which provided a comfy bed, nice view, and a fridge.
