My stay at the Adams River House was great! The house was spacious and beautiful just like the pictures if not better. The grounds for Allstar and Outlanders were huge and I wish I knew more about it before my visit. We didn't have time to check out the river area & activities. The views were amazing. My group and I loved the hot tub and the firepit. The staff were great & really helpful.  They give you a list of items to pack -- but we did not realize 'extra' toilet paper and towels meant bring our own supply. We stayed at Woodland_Magic thru Allstar lodging. It was one of the worst cabins I have ever been too. Whom ever cleans that cabin should get a different job. It was so filthy we actually left a day early. I had bites all over my legs from fleas. The kitchen counters had crumbs all over and the worst part was the hot tub. It was slimy and gritty. Never will I go back nor will I ever book another rental thru Allstar, they did nothing to accommodate our complaints. read more

We booked Allstar last-minute when another booking fell through. What a disappointment! I can overlook tacky, outdated decor and can even understand a few bugs (it IS the mountains of Virginia in uninhabited houses, after all), but so many things added up to simply demonstrate a lack of care for their guests. Like another Yelp'er mentioned, the doors were loose and barely locked. We are tall, so we readily noticed a heavy coating of dust on high shelves, top of fridge, and top of wall hangings, in addition to a light coating of dust on the lower shelves. There was no air filter in the vent system and a dirty one leaning against the wall underneath it. There was no privacy curtain in the main bathroom, so I had to jerry-rig something with an old towel. Oh, did I mention old towels?! They were seriously in need of replacement - raggedy and stained. I've stayed in rundown hotels in Africa that provided better towels. One of the bathrooms had three different colors of tile they must've got on sale. This complemented the mismatched furniture and gaudy, grandma's-garage-sale decor throughout. We had to put on our own linens, but in doing so noted the gross drool strains on the pillows that could be simply washed in the machine. We had brought donuts in for the next morning, which were enjoyed by an entire colony of ants during the night. Finally, I picked up one of the many magazines strewn across the house and noticed it was from 2012. I mean, all the things just add up to a big "eff you" from the company to their guests...either that, or someone is seriously dropping the ball. All this for $482.98 for 2 nights (that was 2 adults, 1 toddler, and 2 small dogs). I wrote some of this in the little notebook they provided for feedback, and 3 days later I've heard nothing from them, so I was compelled to write a review to steer others away. No thank-you. 3.5 stars for Allstar Lodging: (as with any contract) you really need to read the fine print on their contracts so you know what the expectations are, AND WHAT THE POTENTIAL FEES ARE, before signing. Husband and I have spent a lot of time in rustic, basic, non-modernized PATC cabins since our good friend has a membership and is kind enough to let us tag along; but for Memorial Day weekend we were all looking for something modernized (read: with A/C in order to combat the lovely Virginia summer weather). We used Allstar Lodging to find a great little cabin for the six of us, right on the edge of the charming Shenandoah River. It was super simple to find a cabin we liked through the Allstar website, which is well-constructed and easy to navigate. There's a ton of pictures of each of their 100+ rental properties to help you make your selection. The property we picked was great and had all the modern conveniences of your own home: fully-equipped kitchen, full entertainment system (which we didn't plan on using, but ended up using when it rained one afternoon, and we were so grateful for the DVD collection and player!), A/C, etc. It was also fully stocked with linens, games, puzzles, books, a canoe, kayaks, innertubes, croquet, badminton, basketball, a hammock, and a kick-ass firepit. The best part about using Allstar is that a cleaning crew comes in before you and after you, unlike with the PATC cabins where you're solely responsible for the cleaning of the property! When you show up everything is spotless and welcoming. Our only complaint about Allstar Lodging was the misleading pricing. The cabins are listed with a "daily" rental price, but then additional fees sneakily get piled on top of the initial prices, so you end up paying way more than you expected. We thought we'd be paying about $500 total for the cabin for three days. We ended up paying close to $900: we were charged extra for having 6 people in the cabin (while the cabin is listed as accommodating 6 people, you're only allowed 2 and everyone else is $50 extra); we were charged extra for each of 2 dogs brought along. And on top of the initial extra fees, you're threatened with a ton more should you violate any rental rules liiiiiike: leaving your trash in the trash can or rearranging furniture. If you have people over during the day, you owe $15 per person, and they have to leave by 10 pm. The rental agent also "threatens" that they'll stop by unannounced to check on how many people are at the cabin, and if you're over, you'll be charged for each visitor! It's so much to keep track of. We figured that the agency/cabin owners have been burned by rowdy or stupid renters who did major damage to some of the cabins, hence the laundry list of rules. We also figured we would rent from Allstar and see how it went -- if they "stopped by" to spy on us, we'd never rent again. If they didn't, we'd most likely rent again. They never popped in. Thank goodness, because they would have discovered we'd set up a meth lab in the canoe shed and were raising roosters to sell on the backwater black-market of underground Appalachian cockfighting. We'll use Allstar again. With our eyes open this time, tho! read more

We stayed at the little rileyville place and the first thing I saw is a little note that said "peak in the fridge for a little welcome gift". It was a basket with a bottle of martinelly's and an assortment of other snacks. The cabin is quaint trailer like but very homey. It has two rooms, deck and a porch. It also has river access on a canoe, but the stream is too strong to use it there (couldn't get further than that). We really loved how dog friendly it was. It had empty bowls for water and food, as well as doggy treats. The only downside to it was that it was located off of a main road and the fact that it didn't have a hot tub! Plenty of covers and towels, they provided basic toiletries (body wash and soap bars) no shampoo, no conditioner, yes hair dryer! They also took the time to set up the wood on the little fire pit by the river. Overall a VERY pleasant experience. read more

We loved the cottage that we're in the owner were very nice, the place was outstanding and we're thinking about coming back until the last night were there. My husband , myself and our dog went for a walk through the area the owners said we're allowed, suddenly a truck stopped with 2 young guys probably around 20's started to yelling @ us that we're in their property, as we tried to approach their car to say we're guests in a house etc.. they took off right before they shoot their weapons up in the air then stopped in a wooden area we could see the lights from their car. I was so scared because we are blacks and we're wondering if was race related, we called the owner and he said that the place we're walking belongs to the county not to anyone. Couldn't sleep all night and couldn't wait to leave the area. read more

I've been utilizing their services for many years and always found my stay there to be extremely comfortable, very clean accommodation and they're very attentive to my needs. I would strongly warn against renting through Allstar lodging! During a recent stay at "Heaven on Earth" Allstar decided to evict us for having more folks in the house than was listed on the initial form. However, they made no effort to contact us before the fact to try to work out the issue or discuss the problem. We returned from a lovely day on the river to find all of our belongings strewn on the porch including expensive jewelry, cell phones and hundreds of dollars of food from the fridge. No voice mail or missed call to speak of. Staff was rude and combative and made no effort to engage in conversation upon our return. Worst of all, before we even returned to the cabin, they had charged an additional $1,700 to our card not authorized in any way; they did not send us any notification or itemization of the charge, it just showed up on the credit card statement. Luckily, Amex provides excellent customer service and took care of the issue, but this sort of behavior borders criminal. I honestly cannot think of a way they could have handled the situation any more poorly. The fact that they entered our cabin and (man)handled all of our belongings with no attempt to contact us felt incredibly violating. More like "Hell on Earth." If you are looking for a cabin in the area, I highly recommend you go with Lion and Crow instead. We have always gone through them in the past and have had wonderful experiences over the past five years, but all of their cabins were booked this time so unfortunately we made the mistake of booking through Allstar. Looking through the reviews, I now see that we clearly are not the only group to have experienced poor treatment and hidden fees charged after the fact and without warning. Definitely won't do that again! I see that many other folks have had similar issues with this company over the years (although some don't come up as "recommended reviews" there are many additional complaints). My stay at Old Wagon Ridge booked through All Star Lodging was not good - in fact, the booking agent cancelled my reservation about 30 minutes prior to check in. No option for where else to stay the night - no offer to comp me for a future stay or cover the cost of a hotel room that evening. (The booking agent offered to reserve a future date for me -- no discount for my troubles. Fool me once, shame on you...fool me twice, NO WAY.) Thank goodness I only had a 2 hour drive home - disappointed and shocked at the poor treatment. I own a rental property on the beach in Eastern Shore...and I understand that things happen like mechanical issues. I have NEVER left a guest "high and dry" if my house was not ready for any reason. Needless to say, I will not use this company or book this rental location again - and I caution you before you book...if you have a long drive, make sure you also book a hotel room! read more

The hot tub, that's literally it, we stayed at Eagle's Nest, the outside of the cabins are presentable and well kept, the inside was clean, housekeeping does their job, but with that being said, the entire interior of the cabin was completely out dated, there were bugs everywhere, 30 year old tv in one bed room; the location on the side of the mountain was extremely cool but it wasn't worth $175 a night to stay in an outdated cabin. not to mention, there was several roaches and the shower looked like something you would see in a temporary military camp. Not entire a bad experience because we had good spirits but definitely wasn't what it was presented and sold as on the website and definitely not worth it for the price. read more

WE WOULD NOT RECOMMEND ALLSTAR LODGING AND WE ARE DEFINITELY NOT GOING BACK. We stayed in the cabin "Love and Dreams" for our anniversary and faced several problems, which were strongly undermined by the management of the company. First, we got at the cabin on Friday night after a long drive to find out that the cabin was not clean. Three big bag trashes were inside the house, the sheets were clearly used and had white stains on it, and the hot tub (one of the biggest reason we chose the cabin in the first place) still had water from the previous clients. We spent our first night at the cabin cleaning the essentials. In the morning, we contacted the company to inform them that the cabin had not been cleaned. They informed us that they would contact the lady responsible for cleaning to check the information. We waited around 3 hours, and as we didn't get a call back, we called again. This time we left a message that we were waiting for a response (by this time it was already 1pm on our only full day at the cabin). They called us back informing that the lady would come by to clean the house, the hot tub, and pick up the trash. Then, something extremely unprofessional happened: they asked us to consider that the lady responsible for cleaning were going through cancer treatment (and although we are really sorry for her, we consider that given us this information was not proper). The lady came to clean the house around 3pm, while we sat on the couch waiting for it (which was extremely inconvenient). By the time she was done, we were already at the end of our full day at the cabin, and were for the first time able to use the hot tub and enjoy our anniversary. We came back on Sunday, and on Monday we contacted them to negotiate a discount or something to minimally repair the stress of our stay. They offered us not to pay the cleaning lady and give us a discount corresponding to what they would pay her - $55 (around 15% of the total). This value is simply unacceptable for several reasons: We could not enjoy the hot tub for most of our stay; we had to do some cleaning ourselves; we paid for 2 nights and could relax and enjoy for less than a half day (that is, we paid for a service that we did NOT have it); they did not communicate with us effectively, which caused us a lot of stress during our stay. Also, they offered us "a free night" in our next stay, which we already have told them that we were not interested. We asked to talk with the owner of the property, but this request was totally ignored by them, and no one ever contacted us regarding our request. They simply deposited the "cleaning lady money"...I guess for our cleaning services to them? In looking for review at their website, we realized that there is no space for that; reviews are sent to them, and they obviously choose which one to post (another proof of how unprofessional they are). Then, we started to look at other websites for review; it was when we realized that there is actually quite a few negative reviews (definitely a lesson learned, next time research reviews on other websites as well). It also became clear to us how defensive they are, as for every negative review the manager responds in a very defensive manner. In sum: Bad service and inconvenient and unprofessional way to deal with clients. We paid for a service that was not provided. read more

While the cabin itself was nice, management stopped by without notice while we were out and decided to have the cleaning crew come through, resulting in several of our items being misplaced or mistaken as their own property. DO NOT RENT FROM THIS COMPANY!! Our family made reservations to stay in one of the cabins managed by Allstar. Originally, our dogs were going to be joining us, but two months before the trip we decided to leave them at home. When I called to have the Pet Fee refunded they would only refund 75% stating that the other 25% was for their time informing the owners that the pets were not going to be coming. When I brought up their cancellation policy they refused to differentiate between Base Rental Fee and Total Rental Fee saying they were the same, which CLEARLY THEY ARE NOT!! There policy is as follows: CANCELLATION: In the event a Guest wishes to terminate this agreement, the Administration fees are non refundable and 25% of the base rental amount shall be forfeited if the cancellation is made more than 30 days in advance of the arrival date. If cancellation is within 30 days of the arrival date, 100% of the total rental amount shall be forfeited. (This includes cancellation of additional paying guest, pet fees, balance payments or linen fees) Rates are subject to change without notice. I am upset because I am being charged for services not rendered, and was told that base fee and total fees were the same and we were talking about "semantics". It clearly states on our invoice that the Pet Fee was an "optional fee", and was included in "total fees" according to the cancellation policy. I do not appreciate being taken advantage of, and when I spoke with the manager he was the rudest, most unhelpful person I could have gotten. My friends and I have rented the property A Piney Mountain Retreat in Luray through Allstar for two weekends, so far. It is a gorgeous getaway not far from the DC area. It offers family fun for both sunny and rainy days, between the pool, horse shoes court, playground, and game room. The kitchen is well stocked. The beautiful dining room offers a large table that makes it easy for everyone to enjoy meals together. The living room is cozy, with ample seating and is a great place for playing games around the large coffee table. You definitely feel like you are away from the hustle and bustle, yet the decor of the house is a notch above most of the other cabins we have stayed in. It feels like a bit of luxury out in the country. It's hard to mention everything this cabin has to offer in a short review - the large hot tub, the fire-pit, multiple outdoor seating options, etc. - as it pretty much covers everything you could want/need and then some! We love this cabin and recommend it highly to large families or big groups of friends looking for a fun weekend away. read more

This company manages a wonderful selection of houses. We were SO pleasantly surprised by how well-stocked the house was when we arrived, how easy check-in & out was, and generally how perfect the experience was. We were right on the river on the 4th of July with a hot tub, fire pit, etc-- heaven! Additionally, I called a couple times for various reasons and their employees were always really kind and helpful. I can't quite give them 5 stars because it annoys me how they charge so many add-ons. What seems initially like a great deal starts adding up-- for example, a house that sleeps 10 will be quoted at a price for TWO-- and each person after that costs $25/night. That's a BIG difference-- and any electric/water use does not cost that much, contrary to their stated rationale. It also makes it difficult to compare the prices of houses because some are quoted for two and others for four. Even day guests must pay $15/day. I'm not sure how well-enforced these things are (no one stopped by while we were there), but the penalty for violating them is in the contract and was steep enough that we didn't risk it. read more

We returned from a tubing trip to find our group's ENTIRE set of belongings thrown out on the front porch. Prior to this, NO ONE from Allstar Lodging even contacted us to complain, warn, or even notify us that ANYTHING was out of the ordinary! Needless to say, with a few items from our belongings missing from the front porch, we called the police. They arrived to investigate and keep the peace, and it wasn't long before they realized it was going to be a civil matter and not a criminal one. Still, the police officers verbally complained to the management staff and OWNER of Allstar Lodging about mishandling our property and the really the whole situation. They even objected to the demand that our group leave the premises and drive away considering we had just spent the day drinking and floating down the Shenandoah river. So the police allowed us to stay, but the staff and owner of Allstar Lodging continued to berate us. After we left, I received a notification that Allstar Lodging charged my credit card a whopping $1,760 !!! Completely unauthorized, without an invoice, receipt, or any other explanation. That was the last straw. What a mess! Would not recommend this company to ANYONE! In fact, I would go out of my way to direct others to another company, Lion Crow, which is locally owned and operated. We have had a MUCH better experience with them, which keeps us coming back to the Shenandoah Valley year after year. TL;DR Allstar Lodging evicted our group without warning, police complained about their handling of our property, and ultimately we will be going with Lion Crow in the future! read more

River escape was a perfect setting for a relaxing New Years retreat with friends. We rented the cabin for four days and enjoyed the comfortable couch, beds, scenic views, and hot tub. Unfortunately, we were pressed for time in choosing a rental due to circumstances too involved to mention. I guess because of this we were too hasty. My daughter and her two children, my husband and I stayed in Peaceful River for a week. While the property is right up the broad lawn from the river's edge and the view from the screened upstairs porch was very nice, (it could be improved if the big weed patch would be removed midway down the lawn), the property itself was disappointing as we were expecting a cabin and really it's just a house. We entered the house at the ground level rear where you park. This opens into the basement and we were surprised to see that the master bedroom was just right there at the end of the basement. While it is fixed cozily, there is no closet, not even any hooks for hanging anything. The chest of drawers was not even yard sale quality. Drawers very hard to open and missing handles. Beds were comfortable...that's a plus. Many rules on making sure you do this and don't do that. Please sweep and/or mop before leaving along with the usual things. We NEVER leave a place sloppy, EVER, but this was over the top on the requirements or threats of being charged $100 extra. I don't know how the house cleaner gets any tips, because you're doing a lot of the work that needs to be done. Last but not least, by any means, is the fact that you have to dispose of your own trash. Yes, take your trash with you when you leave. What???? Oh, I should point out, also that there is seldom cell service. My daughter got very sick and we had to travel about 5 miles down the road to be able to call our family doctor. So, be prepared for that, too. read more

We recently rented a home via Allstar for a weekend and had a mixed experience. The home itself was lovely, well maintained and in a great location and we wound up having a nice time. They have pet friendly options so we were also able to bring our dog which was great. Our main complaint and the reason we won't rent with them again is that their fees and the terms of their contract are ridiculous as the other reviewer has mentioned. For example, even though the properties are listed as accommodating 4 or 6 or however many people, the price only allows 2 people and anyone extra has an additional fee per night. Why would anyone rent a cabin that sleeps 8 if only 2 people are coming? If you are going to have anyone by to visit (for example, we had friends in the area and were going to host 3 couples for dinner), you have to write the names of each person on the contract, get preauthorization for them to come to the home and pay an additional fee per guest. They did work with us and waived the fee for us to have 4 friends over for dinner from 6-9pm but I think this rule is so rude to begin with that this concession really only brought them back up to baseline for me and didn't make me think any better of the company. They also have all kinds of potential additional fees in the contract such as a fee if there is any furniture moved and a very strict cleaning fee. You could be charged $100 if a dining room chair isn't back in it's place, the kitchen counter isn't wiped down or if someone forgets to strip the bed and put the sheets in the laundry room. You can read all these details in the contract on their website but we booked over the phone so couldn't read the contract until we'd already paid and none of this was told to us when I made the reservation. I would DEFINITELY advise going to the website and reading the contract word by word to make sure you are ok with all the additional fees, potential fees and limitations before booking. If you want to rent a place for a weekend and have friends over for a barbecue or dinner - forget it. This is not the company to go with unless you want to make your guests pay a cover charge! In the end, they didn't actually charge us any of these additional fees but we were super careful to go over all the things they required us to do upon check out to make sure we didn't miss anything because I was so worried about the extra fees. There are plenty of rental options in the area and next time we'll go with a different one. It's clear this company is more concerned about ensuring maximum income for the property owner rather than the comfort of the guest. read more

As always with Allstar Lodging, the cabin I rented was fantastic. I booked the cabin last minute online on New Years eve. I then called to verify the rental. The staff had left for the day, but they went back to the office to ensure I had the reservation. What incredible service. The cabin was easy to find. It was clean, spacious and well stocked with the things that I would need. It was in a secluded location and even though it was winter, I still had a great view of the mountains. Some deer even came onto the property. I came to spend a couple of days in peace and tranquility and that's what I found. The cost of the cabin is very reasonable and an excellent value. This is the 5th or 6 th time I have used Allstar and will continue to do so. read more

So we rented a cabin from Allstar and the stay was pleasant however, when we first arrived the initial entrance was way too steep for our Camry to try to navigate. I pulled up the email from Allstar and noticed that their was a secondary entrance that ended up having us drive through someone's yard who the next day didn't look too happy as we were leaving about the agreement they had with Allstar. Aside from that we had a good time at the cabin until about 3 am in the morning when a train went by and blew it's horn. This must have been mandatory because it happened every night we were there. Aside from all of this we still had a good time enjoying the outdoors and the very nice cabin and wanted to enjoy the area again next year or earlier. This leads me to why the rating went from three stars to one, I arrived home and told my friends about the cabin and we all agreed it would be awesome to go on our spring break and enjoy Shenandoah river, skyline drive, and Luray caverns. We were looking to have 10 people stay at the Bear's den cabin which would have been two people per room for around $2,000 dollars. Then I noticed a fee at the bottom of the listing that stated it is an addtitional $25 dollars per person per night. We were planning on staying a week which would add $1,400 to the price of the cabin. I called the main office and asked if my math was correct and they stated that it was and I asked why it was so expensive and he stated "Because it is based on double occupancy." I stated that it is a five bedroom cabin with two people per room that it doesn't make sense to have the rates set for dual occupancy and said that it adds a lot to the total and it gets a little pricey. He (because HE never gave me HIS name) stated "Do you think you could get a hotel room for cheaper?" and I said "I am pretty sure that I could." He then stated "Then you should do that" I promptly hung up the phone and told everyone that it wasn't going to happen there and we started looking at Sun reality to get a beach house around the same time for a cheaper price. Heaven on Earth was everything it was listed to be. We were very impressed with how clean it was all through the house and no typical musty or moldy smell usually found in cabins. It was the best cabin we have ever rented by far. The property was wonderful and we all enjoyed the beautiful hot tub and appreciated the available boats for the river. We paddled down the river to a public landing and trucked back, it was wonderful. It was a huge plus to be able to bring our dogs and we thoroughly enjoyed our weekend. The downstairs game area was perfect for the kids and they had a blast, inside and outside on the property. I would absolutely rent again and have encouraged friends to also experience this property. To the other reviewers who clearly broke occupancy rules and tried to sneak by, you got what you deserved--if you break the rules don't complain about how the consequences treat you. I've stayed in two of their rentals. In one unit we had ants all over the kitchen when we arrived, the doors barely shut and locked, they make you bring your own linens or charge you and to make it worse the sizes of the beds was different than listed so we had the wrong size sheets. They put a queen mattress on top of a full boxspring so if you slept too close to the edge you would fall off. The fire pit area was overgrown and had a single busted chair around the pit. The road leading up to the rental was in major disrepair - there is a note in the description about winter conditions but with the road dry in the summer it was still very difficult to get up in a sedan with no warning. In the other renal, the coffee pot was moldy and the water never got hot in the shower. All the pictures make the places look bigger then they are and the decorations are incredibly tacky and dated. I searched for a large home to rent for 4 adults and 3 children under age 9 and decided on GOOD RENTALS WOODED ACRES RETREAT in July 2012. The laundry list of problem areas began with the mouse droppings discovered in kitchen drawers, the extra air mattress that was needed was locked up--then no linens for the air mattress were available after the mattress was made available, then linens appeared and left on the porch while we were out for the day (it had rained that day), the master bath shower trickled water for showering, the master bedroom bed sagged in the middle making it difficult to get a good night's sleep, and the coffee maker took 3 hours to brew 6 cups of coffee the morning after check-in. That said, the house had a well-laid out floor plan with plenty of room for all of us to spread out, decorated in a country style. The swimming pool and hot tub were perfect for hot days, and the game room was an added bonus keeping the children occupied while preparing dinner. The kitchen was fully stocked but the refrigerator didn't cool properly. There were a number of items that we found broken; however, because check-in is at 4PM and it took us over an hour to thoroughly go through the house and check for problem areas that by the time we called the property management company to report problems, they were closed. If problems are not reported upon check-in, these broken items are charged to YOUR bill. Fortunately, the house's overall 'pluses' outweighed the 'minuses' and we purchased a cheap coffee maker at Wal-Mart so all in all, the house was large enough to accommodate our family. We saw deer and wild rabbit on the property, which was exciting for the grandkids to see. Unfortunately, for the amount of money charged for 4 night/5 days, I did not expect these types of problems and I probably won't rent from All Star Lodging again. I think if the owner fixed the above problems, the next renters would have a better experience and rate this a 4- to 5-star rental. read more
