I usually bring my dog to petsmart when we are in desperate need of a haircut and bath. I have a 15 year old labradoodle who has recently been diagnosed with Cushings - which is something that can effect the backend balance of larger breed dogs - so I am very cautious who I take my dog to. Petsmart told me at her last visit that she couldn't finish the hair cut due to her not being able to stand. They also take close to 6 hours to complete the job so I am sure anyone who has balance issue would feel the same way. Sooo anyyyywaysss. I read reviews on this location to see if it was a great fit. Some good and some bad reviews but you are going to get that anywhere. I even walked in unannounced one day just to see how their practice works. From the get go you can tell the staff is dedicated and hard at work but they took the time to help assure me they will take good care of my dog. I set the appointment, and come in on the scheduled day. Not only did the haircut only take an 2.5 hours they did an amazing job on her. Her being an older dog has a few beauty bumps that are coming in and you can't even tell! She really looks and smells wonderful. Highly recommend them and if you have an older dog or a dog with anxiety for things like this, schedule during the weekday where they are not as busy and I gaurntee they will do what you ask them too. Lodged a golf ball sized cotton ball deep into my dogs ear canal. Didn't even notice til the next day, had to reach around the corner to get it all out. Called back to let them know that one of their groomers is doing this. Asked for a manager, lady on the phone said "this is one of the groomers" I asked for a manager again, she refused. My dog, Stuart, is getting up there in age and becomes anxious quite easily. He is not a breed that needs his hair trimmed, so I had never taken him to a groomer before. I just washed him occasionally myself (quite a job). However, his toenails started to get really long and were bothering him, so I decided to take him for his first visit to a groomer to get his nails trimmed and get a bath and brushing. I made an appointment at a large chain-based location; the type place that also sells dog food, etc. I had to drag him in the front door and he became so scared he pooped on the floor. The groomer tried to calm him down and told me that she would let him take breaks and everything would be fine. I left and walked out to my car. Before I had left the parking lot I received a call from the manager telling me they couldn't groom him because he was snapping at them and they don't use muzzles. He recommended that I take him to a veterinarian and possibly have him sedated to trim his nails! I called my veterinarian office and explained the situation. The receptionist told me that the vet had been using Shelly's for his own dogs for years. I called Shelley's and was amazed to be able to get in that same day. I was a little hesitant because Stuart had just had such a traumatic experience. I walked him up to the door at Shelly's and he walked right in just like he was at home! A groomer (I don't remember who) came out and spent some time getting to know him and making him comfortable. She told me that she thought Stuart would do just fine and she would call me when he was ready to be picked up. An hour later I received a call that he was ready. The groomer told me that he did great! He didn't snap at them at all and he was very compliant while they trimmed his nails, washed him, and gave him a good brushing! And it was all at a very reasonable price! Stuart now has a new spring in his step (his long toenails had really been bothering him) and our house has a lot less dog hair on the floor! I love this groomers, and like that they take extra care of my dogs with hip dysplasia, and I understand that they can't stand for long periods of time. I've been going to them for about five years now. I've always taken my huskies and German Shepherd's to them. They're sensitive to my dogs conditions and very reasonable with pricing with how large they are. I used to live right next to their location, and since then have moved to another side of town in South East Gilbert. I still make the time and the drive to use them, and always feel it's worth it. With her work, you can definitely see how much she cares. My Yorkie, Preston, was given the best hair cut he has even seen. My Yorkie-Poo's hair cut was spot on. She cut his hair right on the very first time... It literally took my last groomer 3 attempts before she finally gave me what I wanted. If you're in the market for a new groomer, for whatever reason, I highly recommend you trying this place out. I can call in the morning and they can get me in the same day. My baby came out looking like a gremlin.... (i uploaded a pic) Shelly tried to fix the horrible cut saying it was the best she could do! But it was bad. My boyfriend did a better job trying to fix Shelly's "fix" after I couldn't get over how bad my puppy looked. SHe did give me a refund which was the least she could do, but I can't see why my dog came home like this. The shop is clean and the people seemed nice. My dogs nails got cut very short and were very sensitive which added to the problems... I have had other places groom my puppy but never had a issue like this. I drove up with my Older son . We are in shock to see a dark hair girl grooming a lab breed dog large on table in the window . She kept pulling hard n scraping the clippers over his knuckles on his right paw , he yelp in pain 2x. !!! she kept pulling each time harder then elbow him to move him back after she pulled him to close in her rage ! . We watch she was very very aggressive looked annoyed & very angry . Dogs eyes says it all . He was scared ! We have been bringing our dogs here for many years... when we started bringing our dogs it was $25 per dog. Now it is $50 per dog...sometimes more depending on the whim of whoever is doing the grooming. They do a good job, but they seem to always overbook because it takes between 4-6 hours between the time we take our dogs in (with an appointment) and the time they are done.. is that normal? read more

I brought my little chihuahua in for a bath and brush. The places right near my house were booked up, but Shelly's got me right in. That was great and I appreciated the fast service but there were a couple things that were troubling. I dropped off my dog and they just said, "ok thanks, see you in an hour!" I didn't realize it until I drove off, but they didn't collect a single piece of contact information- no name, phone number or anything. What if something happened to my dog? They'd have no way to let me know. This worried me a bit. Next, they are cash only and of course I didn't notice the sign until I came back to pick her up. It was annoying to have to track down an ATM at the Walgreens down the street, especially because I was on a little bit of a time crunch at that point. It's not the end of the world, but the cash only concept bothers me- credit card fees are a cost of doing business. Sorry, but thems the breaks. I'd rather they charged a buck or two more to cover the fees. So FYI- bring cash. Anyway, what really matters is my dog came home smelling fresh with nicely clipped nails. I'll probably end up going elsewhere due to so many other places being closer to my home and accepting credit cards, but would still go back to Shelly's in the case of the others not being able to get me in. read more

Being located in one of my favorite shopping centers in Tempe, this groomer is perfectly situated. I remembered that it was there and had some errands to run so I figured I'd give it a try. Now, I'm a loyal customer. I bathe my dog, Rooney, myself but she won't let me get anywhere near her nails, so I have to take her SOMEWHERE. I used to take her to Petsmart and it would cost I think $8 to clip them or $11-12 to have them use the grinder on her nails, but this place only charges $7 and they'll do both! They're all really friendly and are always cool with me running over to the other awesome stores in this complex while Rooney gets her pedi. One last thing, they don't take credit cards. Had been coming here for a long time. Then when I went to go pick up my pet on July 16th I was greeted by Shelly the owner that my dog needed to have his teeth brushed and then oh by the way I might need to watch him for the rest of the evening because he suffered a fall and may not be able to walk. She opens up the crate and my dog is dragging his right leg. Come to find out long story short he suffered a fractured pelvis by being dropped and suffered an injury in her care. read more

My dog Ben went here for monthly grooming and he loved it! Tina was his groomer and she was very loving and attentive. She is the only groomer he ever let trim his nails! He's a wheaten terrier and always looks handsome. Also, prices are reasonable - when he first went in, he really was a mess - imagine dread locks (so it cost a few dollars more for the first trip). After visits to Shelly's he was a show dog! Now we live in the chilly East Coast and he has a full winter coat, but still loves to get groomed. read more
