I wasn't having any "issues" with breastfeeding per se, but as with learning any new skill there are so many little things to know so I wanted to meet with an expert. I had just a few questions to make sure I was on the right track and Shelly answered them all. We did a feed at her office so she could observe my technique and offer guidance. I can't describe enough how much of a blessing Shelly was! I ran into some issues with my 3 month old and was desperate for some guidance as a new mom and feeling defeated. Shelly was amazing. She helped me so much during my first breastfeeding journey. I reached out to her while I was pregnant and did an initial consultation with her prior to giving birth. Since it was my first child, it was extremely helpful as she gave me a very detailed handout and it gave me direction on what to expect with something I had no idea about. If you already have a child, but previously struggled with breastfeeding, I would suggest meeting with her before giving birth as she gives so much helpful information that I feel like it would give a good direction and starting point. After my daughter was born, we texted Shelly and set up our first consultation. My husband joined us and that was super helpful to have him there since he is a huge part of my journey as a support system. Shelly is non-judgmental and does try to just push you into what she thinks is best. She really listens to you and helps you figure out how to navigate your breastfeeding journey how you want. I had also never pumped in my life so she assisted with that on my first post baby session. I brought my pump with me and she showed me how to use it. She also taught us about pace feeding while feeding my daughter breast milk from the bottle. One of the most helpful tools she provided was a feeding chart. It tells you a range of how much to feed your baby based upon weight. She also does weighted feedings during her sessions, which is where you weigh the baby before and after the feeding to determine how much the baby exactly consumed. This helps you understand at home how much your baby consumes in a certain time frame. My insurance covered 6 session with Shelly, which as amazing, and I had no idea this was a thing until Shelly told me. My daughter and I have had a successful breastfeeding journey thanks to Shelly. Where do I begin. Shelly is an angel. Her calming and confident energy is exactly what I needed at the time our little babe was born and attempting her first feeding. "EVERYONE NEEDS TO KNOW YOU EXIST" is what I told Shelly after my first in home visit with her. I'm a first time mom and had zero expectations when it came to breastfeeding. No one told me it was going to be one of the most difficult things I would ever do in my life. I think one of the hardest things for me was seeing my husband watch me go through the pain of breastfeeding and still choosing to continue breastfeeding. Shelly is truly amazing! As a second time mom who had faced struggles with milk production in the past I met with Shelly prior to my scheduled c-section. Shelly recommend a haakaa colostrum collector and showed me how to self express which was by far the best technique to express colostrum. What I didn't know is that I would be separated from my son for his first 24 hours of life. Having met with Shelly only better prepared me for this situation. While my son was in the NICU I was able to send down my colostrum. The NICU nurses loved the colostrum collectors and praised me for expressing the amounts I did and my ability to collect them which further encouraged me. I also pumped every 3 hours while my son was in the NICU and by doing this and hand expressing I was producing 2 ounces of milk by my sons 4th day. With my first born my milk didn't come in and I can imagine if I had known how to self express with my hands things would have looked a lot different. My son is now a week old and my milk production isn't a worry at all. I continue to see Shelly and know she is going to make this breast feeding journey the best it can be for me! read more
