We feel so lucky to have found Amanda and Taylor to be part of our birth team. They are the sweetest people and genuinely wanted the best birth experience for us. I'd been looking for a certified car seat inspector to make sure our car seat was installed correctly before the birth of our baby. After searching online, I decided to try Your Birth Team after seeing the positive reviews. The installation session far exceeded my expectations! Amanda was an incredible teacher as she examined our car seat install and walked us through some of the things we missed, plus things we could have never learned from the car seat manual alone. (FYI the manuals leave out quite a bit!!) She gave us great tips for how to make sure baby is safely positioned in the car seat, too. I searched all over online for a service to do this and the only other one I found was at a buy buy baby store for the same price and only on certain days. This is long overdo but I'm learning as I go being a first time mommy:). I first reached out to AMANDA to do my placenta encapsulation last year when we found out I was pregnant. We made the decision to do a home birth and immediately I knew I wanted AMANDA as my doula. I got the chance to first meet her at one of our midwifery baby prep classes at south coast midwifery. She was the teacher and my husband and I immediately felt a connection. She was very warm yet strong and incredibly knowledgeable of all things baby:). AMANDA works together as a team with Brandy who is also AMAZINg! They're both very different but so great and together they are a sea of knowledge which was amazing for us being first time parents. They prepped and guided us for our baby's coming using their "birthing from with in course" . It was incredibly helpful in teaching us diffrent coping techniques and more then anything brought my husband and I so much closer together. Overall the classes focus on using a variety of birthing techniques and pain coping skills. My due date was may 18,2017 but baby came four days early . My baby decided to give me the best present ever.. I gave birth on Mother's Day . My labour lasted a little over 10 hours and AMANDA was so amazing in guiding me every step of the way. We had an amazing experience learning how to install the bases and car seats in both our cars. We had no idea the nuances of car seat safety, but Amanda taught us everything we needed to know in a non-judgmental way. A long overdue update as I also had the pleasure of having Amanda as our post partum doula. She is such a calm, confident and loving person. She came into our home from 10pm - 6am once a week the first couple months of our daughter's life to help me get some sleep. Upon prompt arrival, Amanda would spend the first 30-40 minutes with myself and my husband answering first time parent questions (all those "is this normal??" questions!) She was so patient with us - we must have sounded crazy! After our chat, we would give her other tasks to consider like sterilizing bottles and pump pieces, laundry etc. I would sleep in the guest room so that when our daughter was ready to eat, Amanda would come wake me up and hand a freshly changed baby to me. Amanda would also bring me a big glass of water and a snack. After baby was done nursing, Amanda would take her and put her back down so I could go right back to sleep. It was amazing! Amanda always left detailed notes about questions that were answered, remedies to try, when baby woke and ate, etc. at the end of her stay. My husband and I had an amazing experience with Your Birth Team during our pregnancy. We had been through a recent miscarriage and I was really anxious about being pregnant again. Brandy and Amanda were literally always available by text or phone when I had a question or concern about my pregnancy (which was pretty often). They were also available to my husband when he wasn't sure how to best support me. Having close and constant contact with them felt genuinely supportive and helped tremendously with my anxiety. My husband and I separately did a birthing class with Brandy and it was a beautiful experience for both of us. When I went into labor unexpectedly the day before my scheduled C-section (stubborn breech baby!), Brandy was at the hospital within 20 minutes. She stayed, even though she couldn't be in the OR with us and had to wait hours before she was allowed to see us and our baby. She truly cared about us, and it showed. Here's a short review from a dad's perspective: My wife and I knew we wanted a doula from a pretty early stage. In fact, we chose our doula(s) before we chose our midwife. We doula-dated for a week before we met Amanda and Mary, but we knew they were the ones for us pretty much as soon as we met. Amanda and Mary work as a team, unlike lots of other doulas. Most of the doulas we met work solo, often with a network of backups (who you likely will never meet) in case lightning strikes and they can't make it to your birth. What was great about YBT is that all of your pre-natal consultations are with BOTH Mary and Amanda, so you get to know them both. That way, whoever is actually at the birth is someone you know. That said, if you find that you have a particular affinity with one or the other, you can tell them who you would prefer to attend and they can usually make that work. We lived them both, but Amanda was the one who ended up attending our son's birth. Amanda is freaking amazing. She is exceptionally knowledgeable and experienced. But even more important for me, she is approachable, casual, and personable. She makes Dr. Who jokes. Even now that our son is 6 months old, I still text her with random questions if things come up (ex. how do I know if the bottle is the right temperature? Should his poop smell like this? How do I use this baby carrier?). Amanda was absolutely invaluable during our home birth. She arrived up at 3pm, about 5 hours before we called the midwife. Basically, she was just a sane person to guide us through the stages and help us get our minds in the right place. She talked with my wife and kept the mood positive and calm. She helped us know when it was time to call the midwife. Once the midwife arrived, she became an extra pair of hands to fill the tub, keep people hydrated, bring more towels, whatever. Our son was born at 1am, the midwife stayed another three hours, and Amanda stayed another couple hours after that just making sure we were all settled in. She helped clean up after the birth, made us food, and started the laundry. Basically she made it so that we could go straight into being a family, without having to worry about logistics at all. We used Amanda as our Birth Doula (included a postpartum visit) and she was the most calm, informational and warm hearted person you will find. She responded to our text/calls/emails in a very timely manner and showed up at our house at 4am the first day of labor, which stalled out and then arrived at 10pm 3.5 days later. She provided me such relief as my lower back pain was horrible (in my mind). We had planned for an at home water birth and ended up transferring due to an unexpected spike in my blood pressure. Amanda drove to the hospital, was there during my epidural and saw me in the recovery room as things went from bad to worse and ended with a C-section. She was way more helpful than the lactation consultants that helped me in the hospital. She was very patient. I liked how she observed how you were most comfortable breastfeeding and gave you tips on how to improve your technique. She gave me advice on breast care and other positions. When to introduce a bottle. Even after our session months later I was experiencing a very painful clogged duct and I emailed her for help and she got back to me right away on tips on how to care for it.
