Our first visit and we absolutely loved it. We eat out a lot and our waitress Crystal was one of the best I have ever seen. We will certainly ask for her when we return. We each had different flavors of the King crab boil so we could sample each other's. Mine had the rub which they say adds some heat and amplifies flavor and my wife had garlic flavor with no rub. We will both order with no rub next time. The rub was extra messy and I prefer a simple flavor. I was disappointed that I had to pay extra for potatoes and corn. Service was excellent! read more

First time visitor, actually never heard of the place since I'm from SE OK. The seafood was out of this world!!! Our waiter, Scotty, was outstanding!!! So I read a lot of negative reviews. Wife, Best friend and I went to check it out. It has it areas were it can improve - HAPPY HOUR FOR ONE - SPECIALS EVERYDAY - BIGGER MENU - however the food and service was excellent. Had one of the best waiters ever had anywhere, young black waiter from the other Shell Shack, wish I could remember his name - Damn good waiter- spelled his name different than it sounds. Anyway getting back to the review. Been eating at Restaurant Row there in Mesquite for many years, like to catch happy hour at Salt Grass and On the Border, lots of local folk do, but they don't have it. Got the Wed. Special Catfish but added six shrimp - THAT WAS THE TICKET - suggested they make that a regular option. Will go back again and my wife and friend liked it too but if they are going to stay in business there, lots of others have failed, they have to make some improvements and upgrade just a little. They have some great competition in the row, Joe's and others, but their food was priced reasonable and service is good. I would love to see them stay. read more

My wife and I met my son here today to celebrate my sons birthday and mine. This is definitely the place to enjoy crab at it's best. My wife and I polished off a dozen fried oysters while we were waiting for my son to arrive. The oysters were fresh and had a great flavor. When my son arrived, we were curious about the four types of crab offered. Our waitress was very helpful explaining each type of crab and what kind of taste to expect. We opted for the Bairdi crab and it was delicious. We had the crab steamed with Cajun seasonings and medium hotness. The corn and potatoes were a nice addition and all were tasty. Do research before going here. I should have listened to my gut. The reviews are mixed with the majority not liking this place because the quality is bad. The grilled shrimp I got was not juicy, fresh or had any flavor. It seemed like the outside had a lot of spices but the inside was bland. The hush puppies were ok. Nothing to rave about. Not worth the $3 for the 6 small balls of fried breading or whatever hush puppies are made out of. The worst part is that people invited my husband and I to come eat here thinking it would be good. I got a Michelada. You know the Mexican Clamato beer mixed drinks that come in a huge cup with a beer on the side. I got an $8 cup of ice and not a huge cup. It was a regular beer tumbler. No beer at all. The majority of the taste was the mix and had no beer fizziness or taste. When I asked the bartender she passively aggressively said it was policy to fill it that high. Yeah to rip people off! Also they filled it with "draft" beer that's why I didn't get the bottle and if i wanted the bottle it would be a $3 upcharge. So $11 for a glass of mix and ice and beer on the side? No thanks. They wouldn't give me a refund even after the couple that was paying asked for the manager requesting that we get refunded. Also, I know this is a seafood place and flies get more attracted to these kinds of places, but in my opinion flies=maggots. This is a big health inspection No No. We weren't sitting outside so all the flies in there tells me this place is not kept clean. The service was ok. Waiter was nice. Nothing to rave about. This place was not worth the money. Save yourself a trip. ATTENTION: owners get on top of your game and start treating your customers with good service instead of ripping them off. I've been waiting for this place to open and was not disappointed. Good crab good preparation and good choices for spices. I love the Boiling Crab in Garland, but this place has much better parking lot.C rab Lots more tables and good drinks. We had a really good meal without some the frustration of going to Boiling crab. I visited Shell Shack in Mesquite on 05/23/2019. I wanted to surprise my boyfriend with a seafood dinner night. I ordered "Date Night" which was $88.99, catfish dinner (his favorite) and two extra pounds of snow crab legs. I ordered it to go. When I made it home I laid all the food out. My boyfriend started eating and when he ate the catfish, it was like sushi. He was sick most of the night. I called the Shell Shack to let them know the catfish was under cooked. The bartender that answered the phone put me on hold to speak with a manager. I was on hold for at least 10 minutes. It may have been longer. When the manager finally came to the phone he wanted me to come back. I told him it was after 9pm and it was over 20 minutes away. He then asked me to take a picture of the catfish and send it to the number he gave me. He would call me back after he examined the picture. He called back to say that the first picture did look red like it was under cooked. I told him my boyfriend was sick from the fish. He was very unconcerned. He said that I could come get another free fish dinner. Really!!!!!!!????? Didnt I already pay for the fish!!!!!??????? My whole night was ruin. I paid 159.00 for nothing. Worst experience every. I wish he would have given me a rain check to get my meal back again since he could eat it from being so sick. read more

Service was good. Our server Crystal was attentive. My husband ordered the catfish and I ordered fried shrimp. The shrimp was amazing and not over cooked which often happens with fried shrimp. However the catfish was awful. It was tough and rubbery. Not flaky at all. As a matter of fact I'm pretty sure it was not catfish at all but instead Swai. My husband lives CATFISH so we will not be back. If they begin actually serving catfish let us know and maybe we will try again. read more

My husband and I ate here on a Friday night. We showed up around 9:45pm and we only waited for about 15 minutes for our table. We ordered two Mi Shelladas which were delicious! We also ordered two pounds of shrimp and one pound of snow crab and two basket of fries. The basket of fries are just like Wing Stop fries with the seasoning. You can pick your flavor for the seafood (Cajun, lemon pepper, garlic butter, the kitchen sink (all the flavors) or naked) then you pick the heat intensity which ranges from no heat, mild, medium, hot, Diablo. We picked the kitchen sink with hot intensity for one pound of shrimp and snow crab legs and one pound of shrimp, the kitchen sink with Diablo intensity. To us, the hot wasn't quite hot enough but Diablo was too spicy that it wasn't even enjoyable. Our two pounds of shrimp didn't quite seem like two pounds. One pound of shrimp came with about 18 shrimps (I counted! ) But the snow crab legs were delicious and my favorite out of the two types of seafood that we ordered! Our server was extremely attentive, nice and informative and the hosts were also extremely nice. This place was pretty yummy and definitely worth trying if you're in the area. It's a little pricey, in our opinion. A half pound of shrimp is $10.95 while a whole pound of shrimp is $14.95 and a pound of snow crab legs is $16.95, while boiling crab is cheaper with more flavor. We would come back again if we were craving seafood late at night but other than that, the boiling crab still has our heart and is more bang for your buck! read more

ive always went to the location in frisco and has never been disappointed. on the other hand. i went to this location last night. first off. the service. was pretty bad and not handled well. we waited 20 mins for almost everything. including refills. our server was switched, our orders were wrong, and i order 1lb of snow crab ($39.99 for ONE lb is kinda crazy..) and first, my order was forgotten, then it was sauced wrong, and it took 30 mins. AND when i looked at the receipt it said Snow Crab Uptown for 54.99 for one lb. What is UPTOWN and why is it $54 for 1lb? lol never again coming back. and as the manager. he never went to no table to check if people were doing okay. all he did was chit chat with his hostesses, and pretend to work... ive been in service industry for 18 years... he definitely didnt look or act like one. i was trying to get his attention on the service and check, but he was too focused on his phone when i was waving him down. Worst service ever. My husband and I have been coming here since they opened. Sadly we will no longer be returning. We decided to sit at the bar and the bartender Xavier started off by giving us a false name of Chris. Then we over heard others calling him by his real name. He was very slow, took forever to get our drinks. Dropped them off to us then walked away without asking if we were ready to order. Instead he kept checking his cell phone and flirting with one of the female employees. It took him 10 minutes to finally come back to us, there was a total of 4 other guest at the bar top. Once we gave him our order he did not go straight to the computer to put it in. 5 minutes later comes back and double checks on what we ordered. At that point my husband asked to speak to the manager, which no manager ever came out. We then asked him how he still had a job here with the service he gave and he said he has been at the establishment since it opened so he was safe. We decided at that point the food was not worth it so we canceled our order and left. So sad because we love coming and getting the VIP. We always take care of the servers and never complain. Hopefully once the staff changes we will start going back. But we have definitely gone to Facebook, family and friends and shared our experience and how awful of a server he was. read more

I was really hesitant to write this review and that is why it has taken so me so long to carefully choose my words. My friend and I visited the Shell Shack in Mesquite to celebrate my birthday in March. Our visit on 3/3/19 left me speechless. To start with my friend's order of Crablegs with sausage came with sausage that was DEFINITELY old - dark, dried and shriveled. They replaced his meal without the sausage and didn't charge him for his meal. If it had ended there, I would have said little harm little foul. The thing that happened next was way overboard!! We were sitting at the bar finishing our meal - next to the machine that had the red and blue frozen drink. One of the waitresses came to the bar to return a blue frozen drink to a female bartender - telling her that the customer wanted more red frozen drink mixed with the blue - that was supposedly at the bottom of the glass. The female bartender took the blue drink from the waitress, climbed up on the counter with her front parts (for lack of a better words) planted firmly in my male friend's face space, poured the drink from the customer that the waitress brought back into the top of frozen machine with the blue drink and fixed/poured the customer another drink into the same glass - mixing the red and blue. That finished my drink and my meal for me. I can't see me going back there again - even though the waitress that was serving us was great. My friend did contact corporate so I didn't feel the need to do so, but I really do hope that this wasn't normal practice for all Shell Shacks or even this one. So hence the 1 star. read more

Run!! This place should call Gordon Ramsay and ask to be on kitchen nightmare. We were set a dirty table, hot sauce had no lid and the salt was covered either in hot sauce or the seasoning from the crabs. The waiter took our order, and never served us drinks for the entire hour we waited at the table we were served to catfish plates ( Fish was just dipped in corn mill and fried, no seasoning @ all) and a bowl of gumbo(Which tastes like its from a can) .We asked for the check and of course they charged us for the drinks that we never got.We will never go here again. read more

My wife got a burger and fries and said they were very good. I sampled some of her fries and agreed they were excellent. Hush puppies were average at best. I had the Dungeness crab in a no heat garlic sauce that I am unable to think of a superlative for. By far the best crab I have ever had. By the time I was finished cleaning out the shell I was covered in the sauce to my elbows. I could not lick it all off but I sure tried. The place smelled great and it was a beautiful day so the had all the doors open. Between the fresh breeze and smell of seafood it really felt like we were eating seafood on a beach somewhere. My only minor complaint that it was so loud it was hard to hold a conversation. Several hours later I still feel like I can taste the amazing crab. We will be back. read more

So Me and my wife were craving seafood and decided to check this place out since it just recently opened. Let me first start by saying there was no one at the host stand to greet us, secondly after standing there for about 5 min waiting on someone we sat near the stand for another 5 min while watching one of the servers clean off 2 tables and another worker walk past us twice before they decided to finally greet us. After we were sat, the server gave us menus and just walked off not bothering to ask what we wanted to drink. I was able to get seated right away on Saturday around 7pm. Staff was nice and the corn and potatoes were pretty good. Only reason for the one star is that about half of my crab legs were cold. I grabbed a cluster that was really cold and was hoping it was just a one off but then my son who never complains about food stopped eating and I asked him what was wrong and he said that the crab was cold. I had a party of 9 we sat outside in the patio but we were told that we couldn't rotate the tables to fit my complete party! I thought that was ridiculous! However they let another big party outside rotate tables!!!! So what was the problem with us rotating ours!! We ended up rotating the tables anyway! And enjoyed Princesse's service! Tried the location in Mesquite and will never go there again. The service is slow, ordered and waited over 45 minutes to get served. I ordered the catfish basket and the fries were so greasy and there was 2 very small overcooked thin pieces of catfish not very big like a kids meal. We were charged twice for the 1 dozen oysters and took another 30 minutes to get the bill corrected. I also observed a waitress taking things from the bar and putting them in her mouth eating and licking her fingers and putting them back in to get a lemon to put in someones beer bottle. no silverware was given to us at all. We asked for some forks for the oysters and took a long time to get them and we never got any silverware to eat the broccoli I ordered. I can understand some of the food doesn't require the use of utensils and you eat it with your hands but come on not everyone likes to eat out with their hands with hot food like broccoli and rice. Even the waitress told us that sometimes people get 2 large pieces of catfish and some get little ones . read more

My first and LAST visit here! #1) Menu not at all clear to tell you the different options between getting a pig slop mess of sauce (crabs) and a simple 'rub' option. Nowhere in the restaurant is it posted, nor any information offered from the waiter. #2) You then have to get up and to a sink, on the side of the bar, to wash your hands off. #3) We got our drinks (to go) brought to us flowing over and dripping all down the sides. Asking to speak with the manager (oh, excuse me, District Mgr.) left us with an even worse taste in our mouth than the food. Instead of acknowledging how those areas could be improved - he only wanted to repeat.. "well, you ate it so you must have liked it" and "I brought you fresh drinks, you should be happy." Completely condescending and non-professional as they come. #4) They are also higher priced than Joe's Crab Shack just across the street. I had read several reviews and heard awesome things about The Shell Shack from coworkers. We decided to visit the Mesquite location since it was a bit closer. We arrived just before noon on 10/15/16 only to be told by the hostess they weren't ready to seat patrons which was weird as the hours set for this particular location are 11am - 2am. We waited as she and a few other young ladies chatted and then another young woman came and seated us. Our server was extremely nice and HE WAS the only one to that made the difference in the experience. The rest of the staff looked extremely questionable and their character and demeanor were WAY out of line! Britches sagging, looking as if they had just rolled out of bed, all kinds of tom foolery! What caught my attention was a young man that I am assuming was the manager/chef had to come out of the back with a mean mug and find these kids that were congregated about in the parking lot, and ASK them to come go to work, one guy was so furious he punches the door and yells "he was out this b!tch" just as the dining hall was filling up. Aside from the lack of professionalism the food was amazing! When you are spending well over $85 for brunch, I would expect for the service to match the prices! I am only giving one star because that is the lowest I can go. Shell shack is my favorite place for crab legs, I love Plano and uptown. But mesquite is straight trash. But this time was more disappointing. We were told our wait was going to be 20 minutes. We waited an hour for the two of us, and saw a party of 7 seated before us (when we got there FIRST), they moved two tables just to make enough for them.. and there were plenty of tables open then and the entire night! Then when we got to the table the waiter was a little off, took our drink order and then 20 minutes later a girl came and asked us for our drink order.what the heck!!!!!! She took the drink order, again. As well as our food order. She was actually a sweetheart. WE told her we wanted the fries to be an appetizer, never got them as an appetizer. Literally waited an hour without any explanation for our food to be served. Fries were an OK temperature. BUT my crab legs for the second time, were so damn horrible. They were THE PUNIEST CRAB LEGS I HAVE EVER LAID EYES ON. It was not a pound at all. That's so dishonest man. No meat at all really , and to top it off our order was wrong and COLD (it was cold my first visit too, so don't say "oh no it's normally hot" bullshit) She took it back and told us she would get us new food, and all they did was reboil it because it was the exact same portion and sausage (I look at all detail of my food) since they reboiled it, it was so over cooked. Which pissed me off, because if I'm paying my money for food that yall fucked up, it should be replaced, not reserved reboiled, and overcooked because y'all are so cheap! The whole 1:45 minutes we were seated our drinks were not refilled, we were not checked on, nothing. I am just really Unpleased with this location. Nothing will make me go back. They really give shell shack a bad name. I love Plano's location. If I still lived close I wouldn't have even came here again. I will be calling whomever I have to call until someone gives me a response I want to hear, I don't want to hear any bull crap about come try us again it was a bad day.
