    They almost finished the job.
    David D.

I came in to get my oriole changed at rapid lube, which was already a bit of an oxymoron. When I got back to the house I noticed oil all over my driveway. This shouldn't be happening on a newer model Ford F1 50. I looked underneath the truck and found that they didn't secure everything back in place after doing oil change, which took much longer than The 15 minutes that they said it would. I don't mind it taking longer than expected, but when they don't finish the job and do it properly I get a little cranky.

    Oil stain from Rapid Lube

I don't usually write bad reviews but this one deserves it. On 7/6/19 I went to Rapid Lube on Larch St. in Sandpoint, ID due to my dealer not being able to get me in prior to a trip. They only had one bay open as the other looked like they were putting an engine in a vehicle. Wait was approx. 20 minutes which I can handle. The job was done and I was out of there. Didn't think to check interior as it was just an oil change. The next day, as I was getting into the truck I noticed an oil stain on the back-right side of the driver's seat about shoulder height that was not there before. I work in health care and there was no way it came from me. I called the business just to let them know about the stain and that they needed to take more precautions to avoid this in the future. The first words out of the manager/owner(?) mouth were "From what". I told him that I was not looking for them to clean it as I was going to do it myself. We ended the phone call with that and I went about my day. I then received a call back from the same person and I again told him I was going to take care of the stain and I was just calling to inform them. At this point he stated that I seemed on edge and insinuated that I had to much coffee! That really set me off and the phone call ended on a much more negative note that I had intended. I have worked in small business and know what a pain it is making customers happy, but I would also like to know when I need to make an improvement in my business practices. I don't intend to ever do business with this establishment again due to the manager/owner.

They were pretty stacked, so it was a few days before I could drop it off. In the end, I was quoted about $1,500 to replace the intake manifold, spark plugs and attendant wires. The repair took 24-36 hours to get the truck back, and just in time: It is our only 4wd vehicle and there was a big snow storm on the way. Well, a week later, I'm making the exact same 75 mile drive home and sure enough, the truck starts exhibiting the same symptoms for which I'd brought it in; engine misfiring, and check engine light flashing. I brought it back the following morning, and though it was another day or so before they could look at it, it turned out to be a bad spark plug wire and there was no charge for the repeat service. It has been running beautifully since. On the whole, communications here can be clipped and terse, but it also means no nonsense, and I've detected no underlying dishonesty from anyone here. They're very straight up, and very busy, which I consider good things for a mechanic shop. The business itself is pretty small, with two garage bays and a small, closet sized office. Parking can be a little tricky, and unless you know what you're looking for, the business can be a little tricky to spot the first time around. They're very close to the Hoot Owl Cafe, which is about a 5-10 minute walk down the highway, so you can at least grab some quality grub if you're waiting for diagnosis or repair. I live all the way up in the Naples/Bonners Ferry area, but if I've got vehicle trouble again, I'm driving the extra miles to bring it here.

Inspect my car for road worthynes. I towed my car to McCalls Moters, they had never met me until this morning. I let him know I really wanted to have the work done today, and he understood I needed my car repaired so I could travel to Seattle in the morning. Chance was the service technition or master mechanic who did all the repairs by 5:00PM . I would have had to rent a car for 4 days had he not made repair's. He pointed out that I didn't need a new battery (saving me $300). He found a leak in the power steering components that I will have repaired another time by Chance. Everything was completed at 5 PM. Excellent service, fair price, knowledgable, careful when working on my car, I will gladly use them again. 5 Star's by me.

He has always been good about giving me advance warning of when repairs might be coming up. When that happens, he always provides me with an estimate of what to expect when the time comes so I can figure that into my future budget. I don't know of any good mechanics who are "cheap", but I've always felt that at McCall's Motors I was charged a fair price for excellent and dependable work.
